Atleast 90% Malayali kids born and brought up in Bengaluru feel like her. My Dad came to Bangalore when he was 19. My sister and I are more used to the Kannada way of living and thinking.

Such a sweet interview, I can completely relate to her. I was born and raised in Tamil Nadu, my great grandfather probably migrated into Tamil Nadu. We speak some accent of Telugu at home, with my parents, which people from Andhra will laugh at if they listen. I cannot read one letter in Telugu. I think in Tamil, not in Telugu, I VERY clearly identify myself as a Tamil guy, I love Telugu as well, I can speak Andhra Telugu. However what this situation has given me is the opportunity to appreciate and learn language, I have great respect for every language and still strongly believe it is a tool for communication and of course there is a sentiment attached when you hear the language that is close to your heart. I speak about 5 languages and in my “opinion” as a Tamil guy who speaks very good Telugu, I am still very happy and feel close to heart when I hear Kannada, no specific reason. I search cute and interesting interviews like this. Nithya MenEn’s 😊 situation is very similar to mine and her interview resonates really well.
Malayalam film industry is rather small and there are plenty of heroines so it's 😂 better to identify as a non Mallu in other languages . Revathy NithyaMenon Nayanthara and MalavikaMohan all does this. 😂 Mallus have no issue on that but the fact is close to 75 % of heroines in all 4 South Indian languages are from Kerala .

Interviewer mentioned abt her father and mother originally from palakkad and calicut. He asked her abt parents speaking Malayalam. She only said they do speak like she herself speaks😂. Now shes claiming shes a proper kannadiga with no Kerala connection. Means she lied in previous interview at the time she used to be busy in Malayalam films or shes lied in this interview. In that JB Junction interview itself she said she is a 3rd gen Malayalayali and only her distant relatives are there in Palakkad, she also said none of her family members are tgere in Kozhikode, even though she has roots in there. Nice to hear Nithya speaking Kannada. Seeing many comments regarding her identity. This is an interesting paradox for many Indians who are multilingual or are domiciled in a region where the native language is not the one spoken at home. Does one identify with a region or a language?
Linguistic states were only formed around 60 years ago but the region has been there for centuries seeing many migrations.

That’s how each individual trace back where they come from and that how each generation gets to derive where the ancestors are originated from, to identify themselves as so and so ! But making that call ( in today’s generation) on where to be identified based on where you are from is an individual’s call and they are completely free to do it ! Like ultimately it’s the acting that has no language barrier but when she talks about herself she is trying to make things clear what she is and how she is defining herself ! From her POV ! Honestly, Sai Pallavi’s role in Gargi truly deserved the National Award than Nithya Menon though.
Lol, Nithya had to exibit more emotional range than what Sai did. Also Sai's acting wad plain compared to Nithya. Nithya's minute acting was top notch, just watch the flasback montage sequence in the pre- climax.
Also Sai's acting was similar in Gargi and VP. But Nithya performance was entirely different in Thiruchitrambalam and 19 (1) (a).
So Nithya rightfully deserved the award over Sai.

I have this "crisis" too. I am tamil born and raised in mumbai, I have almost no family in south india, never went to south india except for tourist trips and have studied and worked entirely in north india. I find it difficult to explain that I'm south Indian and not south Indian at the same time. My Hindi is very advanced and pure to the extent I use words even UPites wouldn't, I can understand Gujarati and Marathi just fine, and am well conversant in tamil and malayalam. My most favorite food is that of Gujarat and Maharashtra, and I observe festivals of south, west and central India. I do not believe that you need to be tied to your roots. I am a Tamil by ethnicity but I just cannot relate to Tamil Nadu the same way someone living there can....so it's fine to say, I am Maharashtrian Tamil. The problem is, people think Marathi means Maharashtra and Tamil means Tamil Nadu but that's just not true....

Even I have this identity crisis to some pointmy roots are from Tamil Nadu and I was born and brought up in Kerala and now I live in Bangalore. However it feels like Bangalore as a second home. So Kamala Harris is an Indian or ViVek Ramaswamy or Pravid Jaugnath or Tharman Sanmugarathnam and countless others. What are they? Boss If we go on pointing who are dual lingual in Karnataka then half of Karnataka population will not be Kannadigas. Karnataka would not be same without dual lingual people,from kannada literature legends and jnanapeeth award winners like masthi venkatesh iyengar,Girish Karnad,Bendre ajja or movie legends like Shankar nag,Ananth nag,crazy star Ravichandran or cricket legend like Rahul Dravid...all have other mother tongues..but is their contribution to Karnataka any less?...Bhai Kannadigas identity is not as simple as other regions,this is land of migrants who should accept their dual identity.

I am born and brought up in Kerala. Besides Malayalam, I could understand, speak, read and write Tamil and Hindi. Could read Telugu with some difficulty. Reads some words in Kannada as script is similar to Telugu. I love South Indian languages.

She is fluent in Malayalam so is Tamil and Telugu besides English. Menon is a prominent Hindu caste that hails from Kerala. They speak Malayalam at home no matter wherever they are, generations apart whether it is USA or Australia.
