Nice to see more Canadians out in BushCraft glad you brought Scout too (Mans Best Friend) esp in Canada where Black Bears are everywhere. I also use a pot cooler for my outings makes a great grill. Nice Video & look forward to many more. I bring out a slingshot with me for small game (Rabbits, etc)
nice vid, one point I'd like to share. when you pull your tarp back towards your sleeping area, any water on the ridge will tend to flow back down to where you are sleeping. You have some very good videos, well done and great photography.
Great video, enjoyed watching it and good use of the knife is an implemented axe when splitting the wood. Nice to know you respect your dog as much as bushcrafting. Great companion
I went camping with a buddy and his small dog. The dog was a huge liability. She's an inside dog and she were whimpering and complaining all the time even though she had everything she needed. When we were gathering wood and stuff she had to be carried up the cliffs because she is tiny and a terrible climber. Also she was walking in front of our legs when we were carrying loads of firewood so we almost stepped on her. Very difficult indeed.
GamePhysics i allways hike and camps with my dog even in winter i got myselfs a malamute once i fixed the run off probleme he became my best hiking partner he carry his own food nad when it's really cold like 0 F he carrys his own matress and blanket he's not cold but he seems enjoys more sleeping in the tent when he got his blanket !
Scout is a great pup. I like the simple Whelen type tarp setup. Your thought process was nice in that you did rush your overnight. Thanks for a relaxing and inspiring video. Cast Iron Kid
Excellent video. One of my favourite parts of wildcamps is getting last nights embers into a fire for breakfast. Tarp went well with those winter colours too.
Heading out Friday for an overnighter myself, so I found your video searching for overnight BUSHCRAFTING. Glad I did, because you gave me me ideas for a shelter as I will not use tent unless wife is with me. She's not coming this weekend. Also the pot holder you whittled was nice, I'll be doing something similar for my coffee pot, and gonna use Dakota pit with a small grill for cooking! Cheers buddy!
Hey Joe! I must admit I am jealous of the weather where you are and that you are able to go out so often. Not to mention the fact you have so many natural resources available. I live in the foothills of Fort Collins, Colorado. The Colorado Rockies have definitely been named the Rockies for a reason! We have LOTS of granite and mostly pine. There are some beautiful spots of Aspen, but that's about it for your choices of wood. I've entertained the idea of doing a TH-cam channel with bushcrafting in the Rockies, I just feel limited. But when spring comes around and I am able to get to the neck of the woods I enjoy, I'll give it a shot. I've searched and searched for Colorado bushcrafting videos and there really aren't any. I plan to try a couple of the ideas I have gotten from you, the ground chair(if it will go thru the granite) the long fire with fire shield, and one other idea I got from a Finnish guy. It was a fabulous way to make a pot hanger over the fire that you can swivel around
Your dog is so well behaved ! when I went camping with my 2 jack russels they kept on nicking off and coming back with rats and rabbits, so high maintenance. Great video !
I liked this video. you made a simple one nighter seem good. kept everything fairly simple and the dog was a nice addition. I know having a dog companion in the woods is great comfort. good pick up at the end too. it was interesting also having the sound of the highway in the background. makes ya realize you can have a good getaway , even when close to the rest of civilization... LOL thanks
Great video! Thought you did well and arranged your camp site in a way that was a comfort to you but also a safe camp site as well. You have one beautiful dog there. If you make anther camping film and bring your dog, you might want to show you watering and feeding him. The reason is so many out there will holler , you ate and drank but ole Joe he didn't get nothing! Again thanks for the great video. May GOD bless you each time you go out into the woods and bring you home safe and well every time!
Very enjoyable to watch that's the kind of camping I enjoy . Seeing your dog makes me miss the white shepherd I had growing up. He had been a cadaver dog and had been shot before we got him but o what a great dog he truly was. I like the way you set the tarp up nice.i also backpacked this weekend with my Samoyed testing my new osprey excos ul pack 34 ltrs . It was a relaxing weekend.
Great vid. I like the techniques you use to split the wood; especially with the knife. I also noticed how well behaved your German shepherd was when you brought out the steak. I have two fiest dogs that I take with me on my bushcraft trips. Thanks for the video!
Looks like a good time! My Bushcraft buddy and I just did an over night on the river. We had some heavy rain for almost 3 hours, but my Kelty-12 kept us dry as an old bone!
nice camp set up i liked how you adapted your shelter to get the max coverage for your self this would be a great vid for all people going out in the woods for their first time atb alb
Yeah, I see a lot of comments like this but I just wanted to add mine to the pot. I love that you actually show what you're doing, it sets your channel apart from the others. Also, beautiful dog. Great vid.
Joe, I was pleased to watch your video. You seem to be very educated in the subject. Also, your best friend is very obedient and well trained. I live in the Northeast (central PA) and there's only so much nature I can expose myself to, but still enjoy getting out and learning new ways to explore/camp. Staying on topic, I watch a lot of "youtube" videos of others experiences, however, I have to say, yours is one than I'll remember. You seem like a stand-up gent. Great video. To future communication. Cheers. -Matt
Thanks to you I have learned a lot from watching you're e videos my favorite video is the one with you and you're baby daughter and you're dog.awsome videos keep it up.
Joe, awesome video as always brother. Always like watching your skills in action, definitely one of my favorite channels to follow. Keep up the great work! Bill
Very good brother. I Assiti your three videos already learned a lot about assembly shelter! I'm starting at busahcraft here in Brazil. Congratulations for the videos! Big hug.
Very cool. If you sharpen the bottoms of the tripod with an axe, it will allow you to stick them into the dirt and keep it from sliding around. Awesome vid!
Funny I just watched the updated version of this video the other night. I just started watching you a few months ago so watching this old vid was kind of cool, I can see how far you've come in production quality. Not that this was bad it's just that you put out high quality uploads. Keep up the great work
The last time I spent a length of time in the outdoors was as a Marine. Came up through the BSA so it was nothing new. Always did like camping or living in the field ! Haven't been out in years though. I should change that. This video got me into the spirit of it again !
Joe, I really enjoy your videos. Also, I was able to start a fire with nothing more than feather sticks and processed wood after the recent hurricane. I've been working on that skill for a long time and your videos are what got me there. I was thrilled to see the flames shoot up, especially with no birch on hand. Sub for life!
good stuff man! few things better than a night out in the woods, under the stars, surrounded by nature. shame how hard it can be to get away from the noise and light pollution of town though..
Great video! But I think Scout should have gotten some of your water and a little Moore food since he's your alarm system! Great job with your camp. Thanks.
Just a heads up. The triangular flap of the tarp you have tied back into your shelter could lead rainwater along its edges to drip right onto you while you sleep. I think the same could happen with condensation. You could roll it up around the top of your frame if you're having a fire close and you want it to get out of the way. Or stretch it the other way around from underneath the top, then tie it back on the outside.
Cracking video dude, esp luvin the yellow tarp, makes a change from the generic green ones. Have jut subscribed to your channel and looking forward to seeing your future adventures dude ~Peace~
This is one of the best solo overnight videos i've seen, well done. I have to say just two thing's. First every time you used the back of your axe as a hammer I was nervous for you, especially as it looked well maintained and sharp. Second was when you where stabbing with the bushcraft knife into your kindling. I wish I had a beautiful dog like that to take on my solo's though...... and I loved when you were reading, that's one of may most favourite things in the world... Great video, just take care....
I have seen most of your vids, but I have not seen this one. And then Lilly sends me here :-). Very nice. Makes me long for the woods. :-) And I really love your axe man.
Thanks for the video. I'm learning all I can before giving this stuff a go. I've camped before , but not with all my own gear and alone. Still getting my own gear together. Subbed
In this video Scout reminds me of my dog in that when I go to sweep the floor for instance he will inevitably walk over the pile of dust I have just created or if you kneel down to do something he will likely sit right on that spot in front of me lol. I love dogs, would never be without one if I can help it. Awesome companions.
My buddy in work told me to check out your channel... and I'm totally hooked! You're an inspiration, you are so enjoyable to watch, your family and Scout are amazing, Im slowly working my way through all your videos lol, my fave was the 10 day solo on the island. I'm on my 3rd viewing of that haha. Love your channel, good luck in your new home and I'm looking forward to seeing new uploads! Peace✌️
Interesting that you wrapped the top of the tarp over the top of your frame and pulled it in toward where you slept. I would think that if it rains the water will run down the corner of your tarp and drip on you or on the ground where you are sleeping. Have you used this again since, and have you ever experienced rain with it? Were you warm enough that night? I imagine that with the sleeping bag and a fire, you were very comfortable. I love your dog. Have you ever considered buying a pack for him to wear so he can help carry some of your stuff when you are hiking? It looks like a fun time, thanks for sharing.
I love how professionally you put this video together. I'm glad you didn't add any music. I learned a lot. Thanks
Michelle White thank you, I appreciate it.
Leave no trace is the way to go. I wish more people were as considerate. Thank you
really enjoy your videos. Having Scout out with you, sharing in your adventures must really be a bonus. keep having fun.
Great video. Scout really is paying attention to whatever you are doing. Looks like a great companion.
Joe,
Love your videos and love how you can appreciate just spending time with your trusted mutt.
Nice camera work - framing and depth of field. Looks like a fun trip. Having a dog around certainly is a lot of company.
Ha! I have a dog named Scout as well! Thanks for sharing. Looks like good times for sure!
nice vid, one point I'd like to share. when you pull your tarp back towards your sleeping area, any water on the ridge will tend to flow back down to where you are sleeping. You have some very good videos, well done and great photography.
Your dog is awesome! So loyal and mild mannered. I bet you two have some fun out there. Great video! Thanks for sharing!
Great video, enjoyed watching it and good use of the knife is an implemented axe when splitting the wood. Nice to know you respect your dog as much as bushcrafting. Great companion
I love this video I think I have watched it a million times thanks for the entertainment and inspiration

Well done to Joe and Scout for Allowing Us to Tag along .
You make bushcraft with a dog look easy. Last time I did this with my dog he ran off with my axe XD
lol

That sounds so annoying.

I have watched this video like 5 times. Great job. I really liked how you camped for the night
Nathan Codeluppi Thanks!
Lovely, lovely video! 1 thumbs up for you, one for the shelter, 2 for the great dog and 3 for bacon and eggs!
I watched your clips before (alone) I learned a lot from all your clips, good job
Love the video, and I appreciate your love for your dog!
Your dog is so well behaved ! when I went camping with my 2 jack russels they kept on nicking off and coming back with rats and rabbits, so high maintenance. Great video !

The landscape and beauty just wows me. I'm jealous, hopefully one day I can plan a trip in Canada. Great video!

Great vid, Joe, thanks again for sharing your trips! Hope you enjoy the book, it's an excellent read.
~Steve.
And Scout takes it so nice at 15:04.......... Good dog!!
you should get a rucksack harness for the dog he could carry his own food plus a few extra supplies if needed.
Looks like a good time! My Bushcraft buddy and I just did an over night on the river. We had some heavy rain for almost 3 hours, but my Kelty-12 kept us dry as an old bone!
love the shelter and love the dog

GREAT video Joseph, thanks for the good tips, and demos of bushcraft skills! i wish we had some nice non-government controlled places to free-camp!
thanks, man.
Thanks for the video, and a special thank for demonstrating that tarp setting, I've viewed it in other vids but couldn't figure it out exactly.
Very good brother. I Assiti your three videos already learned a lot about assembly shelter! I'm starting at busahcraft here in Brazil. Congratulations for the videos! Big hug.
Looked like a cool tarp configuration. I'll have to give that one a try.
Very cool. If you sharpen the bottoms of the tripod with an axe, it will allow you to stick them into the dirt and keep it from sliding around. Awesome vid!
