Where Do Bass Go In Winter? (And How To Catch Them)

  • If your bass vanished this Winter you aren't alone! Many anglers struggle to find fish this time of year but if you know the 3 places to look, you'll always be able to find them. The combination of rock, hollows, and solid cover, are the trifecta of fishy locations for Winter bass fishing.
Don't let the cold temperatures deter you. The fish still need to eat and while you might not get as many bites as you would in Fall or Spring, you're likely to catch the biggest bass of your life! If you're not fishing this Winter, you're wasting some of the best big bass fishing of the whole year!
Below is a breakdown of some of the gear we use this time of year. We've broken it down by location and weather condition to make it easy for you to find what you need.

The primary information I gained from this video is: Go Fishing! You can throw any bait on any body of water BUT, if you're watching TV and not getting your line wet, it is guaranteed that you will not catch fish. I love the enthusiasm and work that you put into your channel.

One of my best spinner bait days, chocolate milk water, one piece of wood cover against a rock bluff 38° water. I had never fished a spinner bait so deep, casting to 15 feet and slow rolling back to 42 feet of water. First 3 fish in less than an hour about 10 lbs total! Finished them off with a drop shot and had 16 lbs 5 fish total. Tried it again this past winter and had to switch to a skirtless chatterbait but they always take the drop shot. Spotted bass are so fun if you get a pattern! Awesome video!

never have I been so pumped to go out and TRY to catch a pig in the winter. I always have been told Bass shut off completely in the winter so this is motivating. usually start fishing around March here in Utah so it would be a great accomplishment to catch one earlier than that! great video!

we aren't too frozen because our weather has literally been all over the place however, Something else you guys taught years ago the reason so many people fish badly in bad weather is because a lot of people only fish in good weather which will make it a lot more difficult to find fish. When the mercury drops get out there and fish anyway. Thanks for the amazing material and advice guys, appreciated as always

I have not been able to catch a bass yet on the jerk bait. The lipless crank bait is what I have been getting the most bites and catching a few. They hit it so soft. Several have got off reeling them in! But I never even had a lipless crank bait till you guys informed me on them. They work for me in the cold water here in OHIO!

I've been searching Utube for days to get some info about this. Well, not anymore...... the information you gave I think will help me a great deal. The bayou I fish has one spot that has rock. And that's by the bridge. Right down the center is going to be my hollow. The hard cover is abundant also. If none of this works I'll be surprised. Again , great information man 😀👍🏻🇺🇸🐟🎣🎣❤️🚣🏻

so the last few years i've been SUPER in to fishing from my kayak. i fished a lot as a kid and a teen, but just fell out of it for 10 or 15 years. this is gonna be my 3rd year back to 3 to 5 times a week i've just GOTTA FISH. i've waited until spring the first two years, but i can't do that anymore. i just can't. i don't even care if i catch much but i just NEED TO FISH RIGHT F'N NOW. so i've spent a lot of time looking for winter fishing tips. i've just dug out some of my bigger baits after watching this. generally i use 3 or 4 inch wacky worms and 4 or 5 inch lizards and 6 or 7 inch worms, just as examples of sizes. (i live in ohio so we don't get massive bass her). i got 5 inch wacky worms sitting out to use tomorrow. it makes sense. not catching stuff on my usual baits? why not go bigger! maybe i wont catch anything still, but maybe i'll catch something BIG! it also makes sense that a bass might be a bit more willing to eat a big meal in this cold weather. i also appreciate your "hollows" explanation. i am just a small farm pond fisher (90% of the time) so i'll spend nearly all my time tomorrow just anchored in the middle. all the other videos i've watched, while giving good info, have been basically the same stuff. use jigs! maybe a swim bait! hell, even a ned rig! JUST GO SLOW! is what they've all been saying. this is the first one i've found so far that gave different and DETAILED info. here's hoping this stuff works for me! i'll be going out a couple times a week until the weather warms, so i'll be using your tips a lot over the next month or two.

We have a nice multi-species reservoir here in Southern Colorado, I fish from shore, and if I could fish only one presentation it would be the jerkbait - Hands down catches all species of ALL sizes - Nabbed a monster 30" Walleye (Bass channel, I know I know ;) back in late April on a jerk. Jerkbait is exceptionally effective and helps us shore guys catch some true monsters.

@@adamsapple1982 Bro, a big fish is a big fish, right? I'm in South Ga. We have some fairly big bass down here, too. My PB is 10 and some change. Once again caught on a soft plastic jerkbait... a white fluke.

Can you do a video on fishing rivers or fast current? I caught a 6 lber last Saturday on a Jerkbait and have good luck on jerkbaits, but it's hard to fish them slow in a raging river. I don't have a boat, so fishing rivers allows me to cover more water.
