Seems they sent Ringo out to lunch after take 6, and brought in Purdie or the like . . . there's no evidence Ringo ever played what's on the record in live performance.
It also shows what sound like electric guitars on sone early Beatles was their ES 160's plugged in. They got more out of those than probably any other piece of equiptment
Sabrina ... It's not just your opinion, but a fact. The Beatles had enormous musical talent, but they couldn't write music. George, a graduate of the music conservatory, taught the Beatles how to compose the songs. So the Beatles could write even more beautiful songs.
I always liked the riff underneath too, it gives depth. You are so right about George Martin. He was prepared to take those risks too, to let them play with new ideas and things like the feedback loops. He wasn't given the credit he deserves. It was a steep learning curve for them all, Martin included.
Pop pioneers - Innovating from the beginning, and you're right, The Beatles (and we!) were so fortunate they had the perfect producer for them in the shape of George Martin and his ability to nurture and create an environment where they could play, experiment and grow. Great video and I really enjoyed your little feedback demo - awesome! :)
Thanks! It's a great guitar but I have to put it away when I record because it actually contributes the room noise. I've had to redo a video or two before I figured out where that strange tinny noise was coming from.
Thanks for all the videos you put out its amazing and I feel wonderful thx man honestly the helter skelter cover is the best cover in my case also thx for making me smile
It is important to note that George was indeed the "5th Beatle" moniker belongs. George was more important than any other bandmates. I loved that you called him a genius as he was indeed! I did not know that Paraphone had a contract that said no feedback! Amazing the stuff you are able to bring out! Truly appreciate this!!! This is my favorite TH-cam Channel by far!
Your best video to date. The intro montage is fantastic (is that Beatles music? If not, it’s an incredible take on it), the interviews and video clips are great, never seen them before, and your cover is excellent. Well done.
@@JamesMaharajOfficial I have heard that also. Bass set up sympathetic vibration with flat top leaned against AC 30 did what even the Beatles wouldn't have thought up
I'm 67. I heard the Beatles at 8. I'm old enough now that I've heard many aspects of almost all of their songs yet I've only recently unraveled many evidences of their genius. And it seems the elements go on and on. I believe some will remain a mystery till the day I die.
Nice to finally see John Lennon get the credit for this (George Martin video). McCartney lied and said on multiple occasions that it was all just an accident (he wouldn't have said that if John has been alive). But Martin makes it clear that Lennon was experimenting with feedback intentionally. Great guitar riff too.
Actually Country great Marty Robins used a bass distortion instrumental in his hit song Don't Worry released in 1961. The guitar player plugged his bass into a faulty amp channel and wanted a re-do but Robbins liked it and left it in....
I don't kinow if you could say the Beatles "were just kids." That's like saying child prodigy Mozart was just a very young man. This was a quintessential Beatles' group sound. John driving the song with rhythm guitar and coloring the studio recording with feedback, George adding rockabiliy lead and fills, Ringo with that striking backbeat, and Paul's wonderful bass, a counterpoint and another big voice.
I did this with my Fender Acoustic guitar with a mounted pick up that had a volume knob on it. Once I picked the note I put it up next to the Fender Deluxe Reverb amp then slowly cranked up the volume knob on the pick up and got the exact sound effect as the record. This tells me that John was using his Gibson J-160E acoustic guitar as the actual instrument itself. Don't think you can get the exact sound on an electric guitar.
Keeping the feedback was brilliant. Gave it a more human live feel that a rock band should have but typically producers want everything so polished on recordings. These kind of things set them apart and made them so groundbreaking. The Beatles were known to do this on other tracks as well that seems accidental but were left in with intent.
Hollyhob thanks for the video and the explanations. And there are people and even music critics who claim that the Beatles haven't invented anything new ...
Did you notice that when Paul was telling the story about John getting feedback while playing an A note, he was singing an A note? I'll bet he has perfect pitch.
So, EMI allowed the feedback because it was supposedly a "mistake" rather than intentional? If it was against their policy, why would they allow it at all? (Glad they did though)
That was clever what U did at the end of your video : We see someone playing guitar and singing, but with his back to us -- which diehard Beatles fans might have mistaken for Lennon. WHY ? Because you were able to sound similar enough to John that even I though I was looking at a video shot of John (and the Fab Four) that the public has never seen before. THEN, U reveal it's YOU singing Johns lyrics. nice job. : D
When cds first came out with the beatles collection they were being hailed as the clearest listening for yrs. So much so , after the feed back on the CD we can hear either john or paul say shit as it was an accident.
As Lewisohn has pointed out, George Martin was completely unique among producers anywhere in the world at that time. If they had been pared with anyone else, he would have tried to control, change, and lord over their creative process. The Beatles' luck in meeting both Martin and Epstein is genuinely hard to believe.
The HollyHobs said, "No other band in the world could have made what is normally an unwanted sound become one of the most remarkable and memorable introductions to a song." Gee, I guess you never heard of Jimi Hendrix. But, for feedback, the intro on Foxy Lady put "I Feel Fine" to shame. You should add "in 1964" or "would be allowed to" to your statement.
The Beatles after the breakup: John: screw you paul, and screw you george George: screw you john, and screw you too Paul Paul: screw you both. Ringo: Thomas the tank engine was quite upset
I JUST SAID WHAT I SAID AND NOW ITS ALL THIS. WHAT JOHN AND I WILL PROBABLY DO IS TO KEEP WRITING SONGS. WHO KNOWS MAYBE AT 40 WE WONT KNOW HOW TO WRITE SONGS ANYMORE.
John Lennon himself said that. Macca said Brian Epstein was far more important. All Beatles songs can be arranged in a completely different way and still be superb. In fact, Let it Be was not even produced by Martin and it's still a fucking great album, despite they all hating each other, Lennon's heroin addiction and Yoko fuckinOno. The praise for Martin is revisionist history. It's my two cents, but I seem more informed than you.
They'd both still be masterpieces. In fact, Lennon was planning on recording again all his Beatles tracks because he wasn't happy with the arrangements. Martin asked him then 'even Strawberry Fields?' and John said in a very John way 'especially Strawberry Fields'.
Camilo Chaves If you want, you can take John’s words as gospel. So what? I state my opinion as John did. If Dave Gilmour was to say that Roger was not all that important for Pink Floyd, would you believe that?
Shout out to Ringo's killer grooves on this track. One of his best performances pre-Revolver.
Andrew Lynch bossanova beat
Good point. I don't know if the ride bell was ever used before this song. I'm sure someone will tell us.
WORD😎👍❤️👽

Seems they sent Ringo out to lunch after take 6, and brought in Purdie or the like . . . there's no evidence Ringo ever played what's on the record in live performance.
knowing the feed back was intentional i think adds to the song i’ve always loved the sarcastic tone what a perfect “john song”
It's just such a "Rock and Roll" moment!
It also shows what sound like electric guitars on sone early Beatles was their ES 160's plugged in. They got more out of those than probably any other piece of equiptment
The Hobs makes another video, and I feel fine. Always a pleasure.
You got it Ace!
IMHO, George Martin was certainly the 5th Beatle, for all that he did with their music & sound! :)
Sabrina ... It's not just your opinion, but a fact. The Beatles had enormous musical talent, but they couldn't write music. George, a graduate of the music conservatory, taught the Beatles how to compose the songs. So the Beatles could write even more beautiful songs.
Don't tell John Lennon that!
another fantastic video, it really sucks you arent more popular.
Thank you!
"People say I'm crazy
Doing what I'm doing"
decent audience number so far
Always loved this song
Such an iconic song with such an iconic intro. Just one of those songs that makes you want to pick up a guitar and jam.
Love this song, one of their best of the early times
I always liked the riff underneath too, it gives depth.
You are so right about George Martin. He was prepared to take those risks too, to let them play with new ideas and things like the feedback loops. He wasn't given the credit he deserves. It was a steep learning curve for them all, Martin included.
They were out in no mans land musically. It's honestly kind of crazy.
Nice that both Jonn and George played the same riff. Uncommon at that time, though vocals were doubled.
Probably my favorite early Beatle song.

Holy shit what a beautiful resonator guitar. Such a 30s blues vibe. The video, as usual, what can I say
Thanks! It's a great guitar but I have to put it away when I record because it actually contributes the room noise. I've had to redo a video or two before I figured out where that strange tinny noise was coming from.

Oh that's great, thank you so much. I'm glad you enjoyed it!
I don't agree with your opinion. I think Brian Epstein was more important than him. George Martin would a 6th beatle in my books.
Camilo Chaves well. That’s ok! Epstein was the catalyst to their stardom so perhaps you’re correct about a position of a “6th” Beatle!
Cool Prof2! Thanks
So he was a genius for saying ok? Big fucking deal.
Your videos are always a great addition to my tuesday routines
Your best video to date. The intro montage is fantastic (is that Beatles music? If not, it’s an incredible take on it), the interviews and video clips are great, never seen them before, and your cover is excellent. Well done.
Thank you! The intro song is an excerpt from my upcoming album.
Woke up to a treat this morning. 👌😬
Woke up.
Got outta bed,
watched the HollyHob's
something something head.
Nice video! You missed an important aspect of the feedback, it is instigated by Paul's bass as John's guitar was resting against the amp. Thanks man!
Interesting, I hadn't known that, I'll have to check it out.
Great analysis! You should have been there when they started; I heard it all as it happened. Except for Vietnam, they were great days to grow up in.
@@JamesMaharajOfficial I have heard that also. Bass set up sympathetic vibration with flat top leaned against AC 30 did what even the Beatles wouldn't have thought up
Awesome cover at the end
I have to say this is one that is just so amazing to sing. Like it releases endorphins or something.
You help us know The Beatles better. Thank you
So cool, great video for a great song... I love all the details about the feedback, the intro and the clips, and the cover! :).
I'm 67. I heard the Beatles at 8. I'm old enough now that I've heard many aspects of almost all of their songs yet I've only recently unraveled many evidences of their genius. And it seems the elements go on and on. I believe some will remain a mystery till the day I die.
I watched this earlier in class at school this song is great aswell as the video
Going across my TH-cam recommended this is the only thing I wanted to watch
When you posted this I was sick and I looked at it and thought well I'm glad one of us does
You've been uploading like crazy! Keep it up man!!

You make me proud

Love the return to the song explainers! These were always my favorite thing about your channel.
I just love the chorus as well. Such amazing harmonies and so catchy. Great vid
yes! i love this song
Great video! Your voice fit right in with the record as well.
Actually Country great Marty Robins used a bass distortion instrumental in his hit song Don't Worry released in 1961. The guitar player plugged his bass into a faulty amp channel and wanted a re-do but Robbins liked it and left it in....
Love this song and you videos. Thanks!

I loved it! Please keep doing videos like this!
Love the hook this track is super underrated

Hollyhob thanks for the video and the explanations. And there are people and even music critics who claim that the Beatles haven't invented anything new ...
The Beatles had Two Georges
I'm in love with her and I feel fine ~
I'm SO GLAD THAT SHE'S MY LITTLE GIRL!!
You're channel is brilliant, no other Beatles TH-camr has the passion like you do
The HollyHobs she’s so glad, she’s telling all the world!
Baby buys her things y’know he buys her diamond rings y’know
Dat feedback
"DAT DAMN FEEDBACK!" - Parlaphone Records
Could you make a video on Glass Onion
Great video! Except what about the bass feedback in Marty Robbins’ “Don’t Worry About Me”?
Did you notice that when Paul was telling the story about John getting feedback while playing an A note, he was singing an A note? I'll bet he has perfect pitch.
You bet right.
One of my all time favorites. ^_^
Hey can you do an explanation on Martha my Dear?
martha was mccartney's sheepdog-references her dog poop in the lyrics
People really love their dogs. Get all silly. Whose a good girl.....
An amazing song by an amazing band
theres a sound quality from a Vox amp too
Loved the amp test. Love ya
Happy birthday John.
When you sing especially if the tune is beatle-ish, you sounds like the wonders singing that thing you do :-D
Happy b-day john!

What do you mean by feed back? I got lost in there.
I’m subscribed now.
Let's torture an amp!
Lmao

You should do an explanation on rocky raccoon,or happiness is a warm gun
You should do Paperback Writer!
Your just a great guy
Why only 11 subs?!
246 thumbs up and 0 down... u da man
I really like the Let's torture a amp
When you sing the song at the end of the video, it would be cool if you made parody lyrics that say something about your channel .
Definitely one of my favourite Beatle tunes. Beatles Forever!!!
gutsy move performing this at the end - but good on you
Holly hobs can you pls do a explain video on lemon tree pls
I presume the feedback for the song was either good or intentional.
Wow.. I thought the feedback was a mistake.. just like in Revolution 1 when they had the 1st take for the first couple of seconds
You should have played the lead in the new "Yesterday" movie!
Love it
Geniuses!!!💖👍
*Insert aliens meme here* Feedback
You never said which album it was on. Sigh
The Beatles after the breakup: John: screw you paul, and screw you george George: screw you john, and screw you too Paul Paul: screw you both. Ringo: Thomas the tank engine was quite upset

Before Hendricks, before the Who, before any F**ker!!!!
"...and I thinkkk it was the first time, wasn't not, a feedback was used in a record "....George Martin ...sooo, isn't he?! 😅 English...
I got blisters on my eardrums!
George Martin's good but over praised. The Beatles would be The Beatles without him
