Leah H that's what I thought at first and that's why I try to learn from it. Even though it's about someone specific, its lyrics are universal enough that one can interpret it in a way to make it personal. That's what makes a song a good song :)

I guess it was in the late 70's - there was made a rather bizarre film about the Second World War and
the music of The Beatles. They had taken clips from the progression of that war and mixed it with the songs
      of Beatles.
The one song that stood out was "The Fool On the Hill."
It showed Hitler himself - before the war broke out - high up in the Bavarian mountains
looking out over the world - with his sinister look - from the terrace of his hideout in Brechtesgaden.
It was creepy - and it got stuck in my mind.
"They don't like him... " "He knows that they're the fools..." "And the eyes in his head sees the world spinning 'round... "

    • @liam1558
      @liam1558 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

@@tomrogerlilleby2890 damn. That's scary. I guess it shows the more sinister side of being an outcast. That because you were mistreated, you feel justified to be cruel to others. A song that has a similar vibe to that is Teenagers by My Chemical Romance.

It was never underrated to me. I don't think anything from the Beatles could be considered "underrated" just considering the number of hits and album sales. I always had a place in my heart for these whimsical McCartney songs that may not have been radio hits but that I just can't fathom a world where they didn't exist.

If you take the film "Yesterday" seriously - I guess it could be called "a corny ass movie."
And the manuscript would have had to undergo some serious changes.
But it is clearly meant to be taken as some sort of comedy - and bring the music of The Beatles to a new generation. I really enjoyed it ! Could watch these types of movies all day long.

I recall reading a story about Paul and his friend, Alistair Taylor, walking his dog on Primrose Hill and being approached by a gentleman. They exchanged pleasantries and parted. Both Paul and his friend said it seemed as if the man had disappeared. Paul wrote this song about that encounter. It was covered by Sergio Mendes and others. Sweet tune.

It's important to remember that in 1967 the Beatles hadn't yet gone to India and still believed in the Maharishi, while Sexy Sadie was written in 1968, after they'd been around him a lot more and gotten disillusioned, after they'd heard stories about him hitting on women and such.

The 6th chords are predominantly found in Jazz music and many Jazz pieces end with that very soft and open sounding cluster of notes. Here Paul begins the song with a 6th which is unusual also it sets the song up in a characteristically 'soft' sound hence many of the instruments are soft and warm belonging to woodwind sections of an orchestra.
This is a song that is strong in imagery where the words are sung softly with beautiful meanings fitting the 'sound' of the music just so wonderfully. It is really a 'perfect' song which I think of as there is nothing you could do to or change to make this song any more desirable or better in anyway.
Paul and The Beatles had a knack of writing perfect songs in the same way The Beach Boys did with some of their beautifully crafted songs such as 'God Only Knows' and 'Good Vibrations' to name a few of theirs. I hope most people would agree this song is magical in a way a great soundtrack in a modern musical of famous soundtrack fits a very memorable piece of filmmaking give a sense of belonging together. Here the lyrics fit so beautifully with the emotional responses we feel as our minds are filled with these wondrous sounds.
I love to play this song me singing it and softly playing the guitar in a fingerstyle tone. I only wish I could write a song as good as this just once in my lifetime:( 'till then I just keep finding inspiration from many other great songwriters that are out there:)

When I was in elementary school, or maybe middle school, I told one of my teachers that I really identify with the fool on the hill. and my teacher immediately responded like, "oh no, don't say that about yourself. You're not a fool. Don't think that." What she didn't understand is that I was trying to say that I'm smarter than I appear and that people underestimate my intelligence. Ironically, my teacher only interpreted the song at face value and thought I was simply saying I felt as if I was stupid.

I have just realised this classic song is a perfect pen-portrait of Victorian nature-mystic Richard Jefferies. His seminal work on finding spiritual insight through intense communion with nature, begins; 'There was a hill to which I used to resort...' ('The Story of My Heart', second paragraph). In chapter 5 he adds, 'I used every morning to visit a spot where I could get a clear view... I had a dislike to being seen, feeling that I should be despised if I was noticed. This happened once or twice, and I knew I was watched contemptuously'. In the eyes of others, he was an eccentric 'fool'. Who knows, perhaps it was Jefferies - a native of both rural England and London - who appeared mysteriously alongside McCartney and Taylor that time, as they walked in London, in the featured anecdote. 2:38

When I saw Paul in concert in Detroit, he prefaced this song by saying, "This is a song I wrote for a bandmate of mine."
    This song is about John.

If anyone could make the mundane seem magical it was the Beatles. I kind of pity those that don't get it.

U should have been the actor in the movie yesterday.. Because u can play Tha guitar and piano and u can sing too.. And most of all u love the Beatles like all of us watching your videos.. The actor in that movie I think doesn't even listen to the Beatles.
