I loved the ending. Sure I'm sad tris died, but she went being selfless. It shows character developement from divergent, where Caleb was the selfless one as opposed to tris. It shows that our actions and decisions determine who we become, not our genes
I fell in love with Divergent. One of the main factors that drew me to the book was the relationship that Four and Tris shared. It was stunning in so many ways. I started relating myself to Tris, to everything that was happening around her. In the end when everything was haywire and Cara announced that Tris was dead, I was still hoping that maybe someway through her Divergent powers she is able to attain resurrection, you know? Then I read the Epilogue and I know that it is not happening. Tears don't stop flowing and even now I cannot stand watching this video, or read about the books rewritten from Four's point of view. It sucks and although I keep telling myself that it was just a story, I feel like someone just told me that one of my best friend's is dead. I feel empty. I wish you'd given it a happier ending, Veronica Roth. :(
Although the ending of this book felt like someone ripped a hole in my chest, took my heart and crushed it with a 10 ton boot.. I think it was perfect. Not like most other books which predictably end with the happy couple and world peace blah blah. In this way the trilogy itself is divergent from the others. The most painful part was having to read about Tobias' world without Tris :-( Very excited to read Four's books!
I suppose like most books it's down to reader interpretation. There wasn't much else for him to do except be brave and move on without her. I think if he had moved on fully though he wouldn't have done the zipline as the reason he did it was because Tris would have liked him facing his fear to do something she enjoyed

I agree it was so heartbreaking but beautiful and perfect at the same time. After a whole month from reading the series, I was able to accept Four moving on as well bc it would've been so sad if he didn't plus it's not realistic if he had not moved on bc he was a strong independent person like Tris was as his partner in crime so it would be more realistic to move on plus he only knew her for like 6 months at most while Christina was there with him for almost 3 years helping him as he grieved over Tris' death. It was just such a beautiful ending and I'm glad he was able to move on with a friend who helped him :)

I needed a happy ending too, at first, I spent two days feelin terrible, but also conscious of wanting to live more intensely and more honest with myself. That the outcome of a book has that strength is something I really respect it deserves. I hope they do not make changes in the film, Tris dies but also becomes immortal for who treated with and who read. But, at the same time, I need more of Tris and I hope Veronica finds a way to tell us more, in fact I got some ideas, to fill the void, and gives me a good plot.

alika mundy You're kidding me, right? Killing off an MC is predictable? It's very rare for authors to do that, at least it's rare for them to kill off the character who's perspective is driving the series. Keeping her alive would have been predictable, just like the ending of Mockingjay, just like the ending of several different dystopian fantasies. The reason her death is so jarring is because it was UNpredictable. Maybe it's just my perspective as an author myself, but Roth turned the genre on it's head with this death, showing that, as in real life, not even the most powerful people or characters are invincible. You're free to disagree, but I thought the ending was brilliant. Sad, yes, made me upset, yes, but I LOVE getting those reactions out of a book. Means the writing was really good! And considering the reaction it got out of you...bad books won't make you depressed like that. First of all the ending to Allegiant was amazingly written and Veronica really truly showed how Tris had become selfless and brave. I was sad but they need to give the ending justice in the movie.
Unlike most people that are young, I'm not pissed about Tris dying. Everyone is complaining about Tris's death being bad because of stupid romantic kid reasons. That's garbage. Let's talk about the ACTUAL death. Yes it was sad, however it was perfectly in line with her character. Could the ending have been different? Yeah for sure, but it happened and the way it was happening her death made sense. Is the book perfect? No. I enjoyed the 2nd one the most. I did, though, really enjoy the fleshing out of the truth in Allegiant. Even though it got slower midway through. I expected either her or Tobias to die, and Tris makes more sense. first book 8/10, 2nd book 9/10, 3rd book 7/10.

Its been some weeks since i read it actually maybe a month. I will say that... Even when this book yes this book, even when it just made my heart melt and burn and then just vanish into oblivion, I will say that after sufferin and thinking of everything that happened and thinking of the reasons and the consecuences of such acts,... The ending to this book was BRILLIANT!!! Its amazing how i actually HATED Veronica Roth for like two weeks and i cried constantly just reminding myself of either the chapter or the epilogue and even after all that, I understood the greatness of it and that not all books should have a happy ending and that it made more sense as much as i tought about it and connected the pieces in my mind. Thanks Veronica Roth, you are a genius.
I see so many comments saying they should change the ending... Why? I cried like I've never cried before when I read it, but isn't that a testimony of how amazing Tris was? And how incredible Veronica Roth's writing skills are? Lots of my favorite characters have died on books (SPOILER: Fred Weasley, Augustus Waters, Finnick Odair, Remus Lupin, Alaska Young, Charles Beckendorf, Bianca DiAngelo....) but none of them had the same effect on me, and that's the reason why Allegiant is one of the best books I've ever read. Truth be told, life is not all rainbows and butterflies, neither are books. The sooner you accept that, the better.
when i finished reading this i cried for 2 hours straight wouldnt eat or anything, it was like a part of me honestly got ripped away. i hated that tris died obviously however if the film doesnt have that ending alot of key messages throughout would not be seen... though i think someone should write an alternate ending
First off allegiant messed with my head because it was like nothing from the first two books even mattered anymore and I could barely mentally function whilst reading it! Wow I can't believe how much Tris' death effected you all, it was essential to her character, she knew Caleb wouldn't be able to survive the death serum and knew she could. Just because Tris was different and the main character it didn't make her invincible. She gave her life for her brother because despite everything he had done, she was brave enough to forgive him. All of you want the ending changed for the movie, but then it wouldn't be Allegiant would it? It has to happen according to the book, otherwise there would be no point. Maybe they could change it so Tobias is with her when she dies? I just want to see the bit where he does the zip lining at the end, conquering his fear in her memory. That was beautiful. :(

Also, since she was such a queen in the series, no one would've honored her the way they did when she passed away if she hadn't. the impact of the ending won't let me sleep the night i finished it..none of the books i have ever read have made me cry as much as allegiant did..i feel so sorry for tobias cause i want him to be happy with tris..but the part where her mother appears at the end seems to be a good closure and when four was letting the ashes fall while he's ziplining is somehow a good closure too but id rather have the ending where they'd be having a family and living happily..
I watched the film the day after I finished the series! All 3 books were great in there own ways! I immensely enjoyed reading all of them! I was definitely surprised that the last book was told from both Tris & Tobias's points of views. I do understand that Tris dying was how it was suppose to end, but that doesn't make it any less painful :( reading the remaining story was from Tobias's perspective was very heartbreaking
i think we needed a different ending for once. all authors make the endings so happy and gushy but i think we needed a change. i loved how it was written but the ending was very sad! still trying to pull it together after 24 hours from reading it. i really hope veronica writes another fiction love story in a different world at a different time!!

It was a happy ending...Tobias going over hancock building for zip lining for TRIS...Peter changed...everyone evolved as a better person in the end...and I just love Christina :) But I really cried the moment the wall opposite to Uriah exploded till the very last words from Tobias...We can't escape Damage...but we can mend ourselves people around us(TRIS) help us mend each other :'(

The book was good, but me personally i like happy endings. Us fans need a happy ending for this story. It's going to break my heart if the movie follows and kills off Tris. What i think is after what happens in Allegiant the ending should be four and tris zip lining together and their happy with both giving a hearty speech and then it cuts off with some badass music. Leaving us fans satisfied, And knowing that their both alive. For example like the twilight saga. They were both alive at the end leaving it a happy ending. It was very sad, but Tris got to be with her parents. Love is a far more greater power than justice. Caleb didn't get what he deserved, but Tris loved him enough to die for him. She gave him love, and mercy. I feel that that makes the book far more meaningful, and powerful. I admire Veronica for that, even though at first I was so upset that I didn't understand. It is sooo upsetting that she died, but it is not authors' jobs to make everything all happy go lucky for all of the readers. Otherwise, there wouldn't be any meaning to them. In the discussion about divergent at the end she wants us to be attached to the character and at the end it will be more heart shattering which leads to a great book even though the ending was sad I was very satisfied with the book just because a very great character died DOESNT mean you should be angry or something but the book is great I couldn't put it down until the end
I've been re-reading the series and Caleb's character journey has been one of the most interesting to look back upon. I'm expecting some major redeeming to go on for him in Allegiant. (Seriously dude, get it together.)

Very sad ending but Alligent ha some funny ass parts in it. Like when they were reading to pull the plug on Uriah and David was in the wheelchair full of memory serum not knowing what happened and four wanted to fuck him up and asked why no one locked him up.

I just barely finished allegiant right now and I can't stop crying!!!!! Why did you have to end it like this why!!!!!!!! Now I understand why people hate the ending. Like you don't just someone in shoot the main character three times the her boyfriend comes back and her 'unconscience' friend is all like oh sorry your girlfriend is dead. You could've at least made her go back and get the gun while she holds her breath from the serum or something like that then put up a fight then like this killers him or he almost killers tries but didn't kill her and then the story couldn't have ended up with everyone crying!!!!!!! First of all the ending to Allegiant was amazingly written and Veronica really truly showed how Tris had become selfless and brave. I was sad but they need to give the ending justice in the movie.

Unlike most people that are young, I'm not pissed about Tris dying. Everyone is complaining about Tris's death being bad because of stupid romantic kid reasons. That's garbage. Let's talk about the ACTUAL death. Yes it was sad, however it was perfectly in line with her character. Could the ending have been different? Yeah for sure, but it happened and the way it was happening her death made sense.
Is the book perfect? No. I enjoyed the 2nd one the most. I did, though, really enjoy the fleshing out of the truth in Allegiant. Even though it got slower midway through. I expected either her or Tobias to die, and Tris makes more sense.
first book 8/10, 2nd book 9/10, 3rd book 7/10.

Its been some weeks since i read it actually maybe a month. I will say that... Even when this book yes this book, even when it just made my heart melt and burn and then just vanish into oblivion, I will say that after sufferin and thinking of everything that happened and thinking of the reasons and the consecuences of such acts,... The ending to this book was BRILLIANT!!! Its amazing how i actually HATED Veronica Roth for like two weeks and i cried constantly just reminding myself of either the chapter or the epilogue and even after all that, I understood the greatness of it and that not all books should have a happy ending and that it made more sense as much as i tought about it and connected the pieces in my mind. Thanks Veronica Roth, you are a genius.
I see so many comments saying they should change the ending... Why? I cried like I've never cried before when I read it, but isn't that a testimony of how amazing Tris was? And how incredible Veronica Roth's writing skills are? Lots of my favorite characters have died on books (SPOILER: Fred Weasley, Augustus Waters, Finnick Odair, Remus Lupin, Alaska Young, Charles Beckendorf, Bianca DiAngelo....) but none of them had the same effect on me, and that's the reason why Allegiant is one of the best books I've ever read. Truth be told, life is not all rainbows and butterflies, neither are books. The sooner you accept that, the better.
when i finished reading this i cried for 2 hours straight wouldnt eat or anything, it was like a part of me honestly got ripped away. i hated that tris died obviously however if the film doesnt have that ending alot of key messages throughout would not be seen... though i think someone should write an alternate ending

Wow I can't believe how much Tris' death effected you all, it was essential to her character, she knew Caleb wouldn't be able to survive the death serum and knew she could. Just because Tris was different and the main character it didn't make her invincible. She gave her life for her brother because despite everything he had done, she was brave enough to forgive him. All of you want the ending changed for the movie, but then it wouldn't be Allegiant would it? It has to happen according to the book, otherwise there would be no point. Maybe they could change it so Tobias is with her when she dies?
I just want to see the bit where he does the zip lining at the end, conquering his fear in her memory. That was beautiful. :(

I get why your sad bc I was too but Tris really learned what it meant to self sacrifice esp when she was doing it wrong by going to Erudite headquarters in Insurgent. She learned to do it when necessary and out of love to save Caleb who we know was going to die and not get the job done. Plus she also once said how she wouldn't like it without the factions bc they were her life basically and if she had survived, living under those conditions would have been unusual for her. Also, since she was such a queen in the series, no one would've honored her the way they did when she passed away if she hadn't. I literally cried yesterday when I finished rereading the series and a month ago when I read the series for the first time. But I saw how she developed as a character and it made me love the ending since it was so beautiful and realistic 😍

the impact of the ending won't let me sleep the night i finished it..none of the books i have ever read have made me cry as much as allegiant did..i feel so sorry for tobias cause i want him to be happy with tris..but the part where her mother appears at the end seems to be a good closure and when four was letting the ashes fall while he's ziplining is somehow a good closure too but id rather have the ending where they'd be having a family and living happily..

I watched the film the day after I finished the series! All 3 books were great in there own ways! I immensely enjoyed reading all of them! I was definitely surprised that the last book was told from both Tris & Tobias's points of views. I do understand that Tris dying was how it was suppose to end, but that doesn't make it any less painful :( reading the remaining story was from Tobias's perspective was very heartbreaking

I finished Allegiant the day it came out and cried for days...but I realized that the whole point was Tris learning what self-sacrifice was and she finally learned it in the end...I wish she didn't have to learn it the hard way, though.

It was a happy ending...Tobias going over hancock building for zip lining for TRIS...Peter changed...everyone evolved as a better person in the end...and I just love Christina :)

The book was good, but me personally i like happy endings. Us fans need a happy ending for this story. It's going to break my heart if the movie follows and kills off Tris. What i think is after what happens in Allegiant the ending should be four and tris zip lining together and their happy with both giving a hearty speech and then it cuts off with some badass music. Leaving us fans satisfied, And knowing that their both alive. For example like the twilight saga. They were both alive at the end leaving it a happy ending. Why can't this fascinating story end the same?

Not every book needs to have happy ending. The HG didn't, Maximum Ride didn't either. In books of this genre, PEOPLE WILL DIE. I am just as sad as you are, but I won't leave an upset comment for Veronica.
I fully agree. In fact I respect her more for making Tris die, because it makes the series so much more powerful. Of course it also tears me apart every time I think about it, but that's life. Books shouldn't mollycoddle us.

That is a very intelligent perception. I analyze meaningful things in books very closely. I fully understand why Tris died. Four was able to face his fear, as well. It was very sad, but Tris got to be with her parents. Love is a far more greater power than justice. Caleb didn't get what he deserved, but Tris loved him enough to die for him. She gave him love, and mercy. I feel that that makes the book far more meaningful, and powerful. I admire Veronica for that, even though at first I was so upset that I didn't understand. It is sooo upsetting that she died, but it is not authors' jobs to make everything all happy go lucky for all of the readers. Otherwise, there wouldn't be any meaning to them.
