You are SOO00oo right in your statement. NOBODY is really 'ready!'

B.s. not only are Americans ready. We have been praying for it.
@approachingtarget.4503 you have no idea what you are wishing for bucko. No fast food no sportsball. What would you even do without these things lmao
Actually, there are 'quite a few' that are 'ready'. Get to know your neighbors and theirs as well. Does your County Sheriffs Department have a 'Citizens Volunteer Patrol' or similar.
Those not 'ready' at this point are either unable to be so, or think someone else will come along and do the 'dirty work' for them.
Wife and I are ready for most stuff. Election violence, shortages, storms. We have water and filtration, a pantry with some things out to two years, other stuff to 8 months. Lots of useful skills along with the associated supplies, cooking, baking, gardening, home repair, former EMT, former engineer, both of us have already seen hard times, I could go on, but you wouldn't believe the skill list, the tools, pantry, hardware, fruit trees, berry bushes, garden all on a half acre with a small home.

When I go to the store and I buy new canned food and dry goods (rice, pasta, beans) I buy in multiples of two.
If I need one can of spam, I get two. If I need two boxes of spaghetti, I get four.
Of course, this has made my cabinets look kinda funny, being so full of cans and boxes of pasta... but at least I know that I will not starve for a good, long time.
Smart.
Spaghetti especially. Friends of mine gettin into it were getting egg noodles. I love em too but.. they take ALOT of space and are light. Break the spaghetti down ususally i can fit two boxes in one and tape it up. Gonna need space.
Buy orzo pasta. Make sure you store them in vac packed mylar bags with oxygen absorber packs. Weevils are everywhere.
I just turned one wall of a room into a cabinet, 10x2'x8', i fit basically a years worth of food for 3 people in it.
Storage can definitely be an issue.
Caution: pasta can have weevils and things in it, which will hatch iyou dont freeze them. I lost a bucketfull of packaged pasta, even with it sealed with O2 absorbers
I do this same thing plus water. Water filters, purification tablets and water collection systems including hand pump well plus rain water. Not to mention waste management if we lose power we got to store our waste somewhere so it doesn’t draw attention

set goals and track progress. If it isn't recorded it never happened.
Take it from a guy that works at a Grocery Store. That went through Y2K and the pandemic. Grocery stores get 4-5 Truck loads per week just for the Center Store alone, Even during the pandemic. During Covid we were at best estimate 3 days away from completely breaking the national supply food chain for the midwest. Due to a month's worth of panic buying. Two times a day we're got excel files from our supplier on the quantities on hand and the case cap allowed on that item to be released when ordering. Our suppliers were proactive by resourcing other similar products to have on hand. Showing us expected shipping dates of the next pallets and warning us on suspected items we should stock up on. It doesn't matter how many trucks a store gets after 3 days of panic buying. You don't have enough labor to stock out 30k worth of goods in 12hrs. 30k of food is roughly 1.5 24ft long trailers or 14-16 pallets standing 6-7ft tall. The problem is when your shelves appear empty because you can't fill them fast enough. Customers panic even more even as your stocking out product. During that time, it felt like I spent more time convincing people not to panic. Yes, there was a concern of breaking the supply chain. Yet most of it stemmed from unnecessary panic buying. Trying to buy a months worth of groceries in a day or two.
The myth a grocery store has a "3" day supply on hand is completely false.
Massive power outages , no one is getting anything. No power, no registers. No registers no way to collect money.
You say, "They are coming." "Let them come", I say. Ready? No. Willing? Oh yes.

Protein powders are the way to go. Cannisters last a couple of years and most provide all the nutrition you'd need. They are shelf stable and only require a source of potable water. I would not count on a supermarket to be up and running. Nor would I count on a community that has to be fed without the land to feed it. The next most important thing is to be invisible. Underground or in some inconspicuous location. Of course nothing may also happen. So it's good to hedge both ways. Keep working, keep living and keep planning.

Grey water?! Just dump it out onto the ground hahah
On the subject of water, a family of 4 needs 12 gallons of water per day.
Six months worth is 2,184 gallon. That is 40 55 gallon barrels of water. The physical limits of storing this much water is outside the scope for the average person.
The weight of this much water is over 17,400 lbs. Add the weight of the barrel and that's another 880 lbs.
If you are in a metro area and can't stockpile water, locating an easily accessible, secure water source is vital.

We need cook stoves. Big old school, multi burner, fire box, oven cook stoves. You will heat yourself out of the house trying to boil a cup of water, with a modern wood stove. I've used those 100 year old stoves and they are indispensable for off grid living. They heat the house, bake a cake, provide warm bath water. It's the center of the cabin. We will need sheet metal, a torch and a welder, because they are hard to get.

Observations from a cranky, still capable patriot who’s lived on both coasts and down south:
•Most American men are somewhere between 15-100 pounds overweight
•Most Americans cannot walk 2 miles without losing skin. Literally.
•Most men have never been in a real deal fistfight and those who have did so as kids
•Folks no longer differentiate between necessity versus wants
•Self sacrifice got swapped for “sucks to be you”
•Very few people would leave their home, their “investment” to live in the bush even if the bush vastly increased chances of life. They will malinger helplessly in the suburbs until preyed upon
•Those who do shoot think it’s done sitting at a bench with a Coke
•Americans swapped “get r done” for living in a 911 mentality
•Most importantly too many Americans decided that God is not God because they are “god”

I grew up and live in a remote part of Alaska. The most important skill to have in a long term off grid situation is the ability to grow food and the skill and knowledge of food storage and game preservation. I have 6 months of high calorie food as I am in an extreme cold location and calorie intake is much higher in that environment. I built a large collection of region compatible seeds and store them in a cool and dry place. My plan would be to start growing plants when the situation dictates the need to start needing my stored food supply. Bread yeast and stores of flour and rice and spices and a ton of salt are important. I follow the belief that the well fed will be successful and I don't plan on missing any meals. The off grid life requires alot of physical exercise like cutting and using wood, hiking long-distances to hunt or collecting supplies. Just my opinion

One thing about water bottles and sunlight: it’s hit or miss if the plastic the bottle is made of is able to transfer UV in a meaningful amount to sterilize water. This is why UV steripen lamps are encased in quartz instead of clear plastic, acrylic or even glass.
I live in a beach community in queens nyc. My family and I went through sandy, and were left homeless for a few weeks because I didn't have a plan. Now I do...most of my neighbors still don't. I have gravity water filtration and food for 4 weeks. If I need more than that I'll be at my camp before I can't leave . And most important as you said. Be out of the urban areas before everyone else knows there's a problem. I'm amazed the way many people view being prepared. I grew up canning pickling and preparing for winter as a way of life. 1 more yr in this city and I'm out forever, if we have that long... God willing!
I'm 45 from Poplarville, Mississippi and I enjoyed the podcast. I don't plan on bugging out, just hunker down with the community. About 40 miles north of Bay St. Louis and was here when Katrina rolled through, eyewall passed directly over I think it was 50 miles wide and took nearly an hour and then the backside hit and the wind shifted It was bad.
I don’t think many have thought much of food COOKING prep. Fuel, fire, pans, cleaning, etc. And also smaller portions in regards to bulk items. If you open a large portion item you need to be able to temp store the smaller portions for eating later. And also food for on the move. If you have a home base and you plan on scouting you’ll need food while on the go. Jars, bags, containers etc. You may need that food to help someone else that is away from your camp/homestead.
Be prepared to self rescue. No one is coming to your aid.

New to this channel, but I love the topics and conversations. I’m an Army Civil Affairs / Information Advantage (formerly Information Operations) Officer. I only started speaking up online about my professional experiences recently, because I now fear the consequence of NOT sharing my opinion more than exposing who I am and what I do and preferentially over sharing.
I have become more specialized, by necessity, in assessing “civil resilience” in communities, particularly communities “lesser” than that of modern developed communities. In some communities, their normal or baseline conditions are equivalent to degraded conditions by our standards. And some communities have a significant advantage in what I call “civic unity”. Sometimes this is determined by their culture, sometimes it’s by necessity. Sometimes it’s a combination of both.
Anyways, I say all of that to say this. SHTF is always going to look unpredictably different. But, some communities that I have dealt with are in a near constant state of SHTF to varying degrees.
Bottom line, people who are prepared, united, and experienced are the best poised to survive and thrive an SHTF.

Daisychain them with clean cotton rags. Gravity will slowly siphon thd dirty water go a lower tank. By the 3rd tank, murky water will look much cleaner. Now you can fill a supply bag and feed the pelican case filtration system. Power brick.....think pdlican case and at least 6x20Ah Lifepo4 batteries. Onve can charge it with a solar panel grid. How much charge depends on your consumption. I power HAM radios, uv water filter chamber, cpap machine and a drone wighout breaking a sweat. Build everything portable so youre not stuck having to abandon your preps.
Good discussion.
Im glad someone gets it..
He’s actually incorrect about the truckers with common belief system. Most over the road drivers no less are ESL drivers with a work permit and also read or speak very little English. They’ll also work for next to nothing just to work.
Yes...how about the truck drivers shutting down DC non starter event. Canadians showed better solidarity.
@@jak4032 100% accurate. I was working at FedEx during that time and all it was was a bunch of talk. People’s easiest control button is money. None of them are shutting down and not getting pay. We used to be tough in this country
@brianfondofbbq you're correct, I pointed this out to my bride the other day driving from Cincy to Columbus, we counted 127 trucks and well of the 127 trucks 38 of the drivers where white males.
I know of many Afghani and Iragi men who came here and took up long haul as a career because of the pay and many of them will become team drivers living in the same household and they are banking mega cash, and have 5,6,7 kids each where they are now qualifying for local food stamps and other forms of assistance, milking our nation services, not solely to be a strain on the system but because the system is designed to fail.
@@WileyE.Coyote-i7c I work in the transportation field and this is a constant issue. The he American truck driver simply isn’t the same guy that they made country songs about 40 years ago. It’s a hard job but the people doing it now came from really hard lives in hard places in other countries and to them this is heaven! That being said, they driver down driver pay nation wide and it’s really very much destructive to the industry. Guys are working for less that value simply because of the flood of foreign drivers willing to work for nothing
@brianfondofbbq brother this is the case in all fields of work.
I am a HVAC tech, I lived out west and employers started hiring guys in that would work for $16/hour, and started getting rid of us with 20 years experience making $30+ per hour.
It's simple economics for employers, charge more pay out less, profit margins go up, regardless of the lesser quality, they can now afford to go back 2 and 3 times when they can just put it all on the few qualified guys to address, and keep pushing the revolving door.
And to the context of this discussion, these people came from regions where they'd drink out of a puddle in the street, which is incomprehensible to folks in our nation.
The notion that the problems won't flee to the regions it's not in is foolish, they will come where they can find sustainment. It's basic nomad skills ingrained in humans.
Buy rice, beans, oat meal and the ingredients to make tons of sea biscuits. Store it all in sealed mylar bags in 5 gallon buckets. My storage has been in my barn since 2010 and is still good. According to research the food and storage of it should last forever. I live by a fresh water lake and though boil and treat should be fine l keep 10 ceramic bucket filters also. My storage , wild game and fish will keep me and mine alive for 6 months and then 90% will be dead then it'll be a free for all that survive.
People waste too much water flushing toilets
After you take a bath, use that water. It is also good for your garden.
You probably don’t waste enough water showering if I had to guess
I like to use the 10x rule for calories. You weight 175 lbs = 1750 kcal. This is a baseline, if your more active you will need more calories. More sedimentary you will need less calories.
Garage not that great of a food storage area: they get both hot and cold, back and forth. Store your food in a cool, dry place, safe from vermin and insects. 5 gallon buckets with Gamma lids (twists open and closed, easier for the elderly/kids/average woman to open and seal back up.) Store beans/pasta/white rice in these. Brown rice has more natural oils, goes rancid faster. Canned goods are fine past the 'best by' date. Discard if the can is bulging, as that indicates it's compromised, and bacteria is active inside the can. Always do a sniff test when you open a can, as damage to seals/seams might not be visible. If it smells, toss it, it's not worth the risk. Know your local water sources. Are they having a problem with sewer overflows during heavy rains? it's generally safer to gather water that's moving but check upstream that an animal hasn't died and is decomposing in the water flow. Know if there are problems with toxic algae in local lakes. If there is, put pressure on officials to get that cleared up BEFORE you rely on that water source. Filter the water you gather with a towel/t-shirt first, to remove debris that can clog up your filter in your water treatment equipment. You have that right? Right? You can build one like the name brand countertop filters systems a lot cheaper, but if you're not 'crafty' like that, bite the bullet and buy one to use now, and extra filters as backups. Boil your water. Which means you have to have a way to do that, whether firewood, or camp stove using another fuel source. Practice doing that, so you're not in the middle of a steep learning curve during a crisis or stress event. Bring to a roiling boil for at least one minute near sea level, up to 3 minutes at higher elevations. Yes, there's a reason, look it up.
Good conversation my dudes...

Ozark Outdoorz is located in Las Vegas. They sell the US govt humanitarian MREs by the case or pallet. They have THE best price. $1550 delivered for 480 day supply. That's a pallet. It's vegetarian. But it's the best price anywhere. They sell smaller quantities too
