      YEs - but these mics have been around for ages. They are just TOO noisy for me. I really tried to gain stage then to eliminate it, but for acoustic instruments they are, too noisy and brittle. Knocking off that Brittleness which is almost like hearing digital clipping, also takes the brightness away. I beleive there are better for the price. Do some looking if you want these. There ARE defo better ones for the same price. I will post that when I find them.

    My jaw dropped when I heard the price. That's insane how cheap it is. I am tempted to pick up a pair but they aren't available right now. One day I will pick them up because that price is too good to pass on. I feel the loss of sound in proximity is a good thing. Especially if you are using it in a TH-cam talking head style. Great review, it was very informative!

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, they are insanely cheap… but wait for the others I will compare in this series as well - the next one is a set of 2 mics + 3 capsules each (basically a clone of the Oktava MK-012 set with 3 capsules) for… wait for it… 66€ or something around $70 🙈.
      But then again… also wait for the review between them all to see how they sound compared to each other.

      Can I ask if you have an opinion on the use of cheap versus 'pro' XLR cables. On the one hand, it's a shame to spoil a decent microphone with a poor quality cable, on the other hand, why pay double the price just because some marketing guy put the word 'pro' or 'premium' in the advert...?
      Do you have any evidence as to what difference it makes? Can you, in fact, really HEAR any difference?
      Thanks.

      Around cables: I personally do not care to buy "pro or premium" cables. I do not believe that they significantly change the sound.
      But I also do not buy the cheapest possible cables. However, that has more to do with the fact that I prefer braided cables for their look and feel 🙈.

    I have these, and love them. I love their sound so much, I've equalized my dynamic microphones to sound like them. Yes, I think they're that good. In fact, they're the only microphones I have, save for the Behringer C-1, that I use just as they are. All my other mics (except for the C-1) are equalized to match them. No, I haven't experience with more expensive mics, but for their price, the matched pair of C-2s are perfect for me.

    The C2 really is remarkable for the price. However, I can confirm your point, that the volume drops quite fast when you move away from the mic. I’m using it standing on my desk, around 30-40cm from my mouth and I feel that I have to increase the gain quite a lot to get a decent volume. Sadly this introduces quite a lot of self noise.
    What is your experience with the required gain?
    Comparing the initial segment from the Okatava to the C2, it seems like the C2 is lacking a lot of the low end. Looking forward to the full review on the Oktava!

    • @ChrisSpiegl
      @ChrisSpiegl  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Jannik, thanks for your thoughts about the video. I was also really surprised with the drop off in volume with distance… especially compared to other microphones. And being close up on it, it's pretty sensitive to wind / plosives.
      In terms of gain required, you are right. As soon as I moved away a little more I would need to add a lot of gain.
      Now, the Zoom F6 is incredibly low in self noise and with the 32bit float recording adding gain in post is possible pretty easily, however with this mic… I needed to add 13db of gain to the 30 cm version to get to the same level as the proximity test, for the 1m version it was about 20db and that introduces self noise to a basically unusable level.
      I may include this comparison with the final review.
      Thanks for the idea and I hope you will enjoy the other videos coming up.

I got new ones for my Church and noticed that one of them works fine with only a quarter of the trim knob opened but the other one doesn't respond well even if the trim knob is around the 2 o clock position. Could it be that one of my mics is defective? Thanks in advance for the help.

      Looking at the two microphones on an online store, I would guess they are the same based on the pictures. But the description is slightly different. So I am not sure if they actually are different. Please read the details on the Behringer.com page if you want to make sure which is the right for you.

    • @skakdosmer
      @skakdosmer 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why would you want that? If you're planning to do hand-held recordings, you might as well use the inbuilt mics. The handling noise would probably be very similar. To avoid handling noise, Rycote makes a Zoom H5 Audio Kit with a furry windscreen, handling bar and shock mount. Unfortunately it's much more expensive than a pair of C-2. But my guess is that it isn't possible to stick the mic in directly. But there are very short cables on the market: 1m, 50cm or even 30cm (1foot).

      The Samson C02 is twice the price of the Behringer C-2 here in Europe. I own the Samson, but I do not own the Behringer, so I can't compare. But judging from on-line audio samples I would have thought the Beringer C-2 was better. (I'd better buy a pair, I guess). But the Samson probably has a more focused, almost super cardioid polar pattern, which would help the audio quality if you're at a distance from the microphone.
