On this channel we like to do a lot of dogfighting most videos are some sort of dogfight between 2 different aircraft as we explore their different capabilities. From time to time I like to dabble in Virtual Reality, I think VR is a great new technology and I love to show that stuff off for the channel from time to time.
If you prefer more up close and personal dogfights consider the IL-2 Sturmovik: Great Battle series and experience intense WWII aerial combat over famous battlefields such as Stalingrad, Moscow, Rhineland and Normandy. Fight in and against Russian, American, German, British warbirds such as the P-51 Mustang, P-47 Thunderbolt, Bf-109, FW-190, Spitfire, Hurricane and rugged IL-2 Sturmovik attack plane. You can also fly legendary SPADS, Fokkers and Camels in WWI dogfights over the trenches of WWI and discover your inner Red Baron! And all of this can be experienced in jaw dropping virtual reality!

2 wins out of three seems to be the typical outcome when GS flies the MB339 against a vastly superior aircraft - always a blast to watch!
Italy also operates the Typhoon, so this exact scenario may well have happened a few times in Italian dissimilar air combat training.

Italy actually operates m 346 jets for dissimilar air combat training
In South Africa these were used as trainers whilst the single seater was used as a ground attack aircraft. It was called an Impala and heavily upgraded and modified. It was pretty successful.
In New Zealand we used the CB model with radar, sidewinders AIM 9L, and Maverick missiles and a modern HUD

I really enjoy the fact that you demonstrate that it is more about the pilot than it is merely about a superior aircraft / avionics etc...
I'd love to see a GS video with a camera focusing the joystick. Seeing how he actually does the controls is the most important part of the dogfight.

If you want to know how he is manipulating the aircraft, watch stunt pilot videos on here, like the Red Bull air races. You will get the idea of what he is doing pretty fast.
What I want to see is how HOTAS switches work with mouse clicking same switches in the sim panel in the VR view. In other words, do the physical switches on HOTAS panels have to “agree” with switch positions in VR panel to work properly or not. I want to get WinWing panels and HOTAS, for start up phase, but want to fly in VR.

Out of all the things that I absolutely adore about GS, what is by far one of the best parts is when he points something out to us in the distance which us on youtube can definitely not see. For example, a Flanker coming in low and fast along the landscape, or in this case, a Eurofighter's canopy through the clouds. Always gets me.
Sometimes I think the little speck of dirt on my phone is one of his targets…

the Mb339 is currently beign replaced by the M-345 and M-346 advanced trainers, with the M-346 beign the most advanced trainer in the world

@@zachboyd4749 Thank you! Now I know that Gen. Yeager was referring to Richthofen! The Red Baron was a bastard to fly against, but you cannot discount his teachings. Like Niki Lauda or Schumacher from F1.
Wife and I saw these 339s training over Rome couple years back. Did a double-take, thought at first they were old T-33s. Something pretty about them in tight formation. Gave us nifty little air show maneuvering over the city. Quite the nimble little gun sled too apparently, as GS demonstrated. Much thanks for sharing! --"Shadow 6" (Six o'Clock Shadow)

I would guess that one strategy when technically outclassed like this is to shoot even if it will miss in order to rattle your opponent, to get him thinking more in terms of avoiding your rounds than setting you up for his.
I have to hand it to them, that new explosion animation looks very cool and very realistic. Especially the initial shock wave.

Quick note GS: AerMacchi is the maker, I'd suggest calling the 339 the Macchino (pronounced "Muckeeno", "Little Macchi"), as we affectionately do in Italy. Sweet moves there!
Great video, there's something about watching someone's head moving so weirdly to the point where the viewer becomes disoriented thats just impossible to look away from. Don't know anything about BVR or BFM tactics but I can't help but to come back to this channel everyday and feel the intensity of the fights. great vids, GS! love where your channel is going and we hope to see even more, happy new year!
Omfg that round 2 in the clouds, having been up thru and around that kinda weather in light aircraft and other types of personal aviation, that really flicks my mental switch into this being real….utterly spectacular!
I expected this would be like a cat (Eurofighter) playing with a mouse (Aermacchi)... would like to see this again though with Longshot in the Eurofighter...
Except in a couple of instances the mouse pulls out a sawed off and blasts the cat with both barrels from 2 feet.
It was also used in the R.A.A.F i used to play in 1 when i was a kid. My dad was a Airframe fitter for 22 years, i also used to sit on the wing of 1 of the Sabre's outside Wagga Airforce base as a kid waiting for the bus to go home from school. :)
I cannot help but think if Longshot had been flying the Eurofighter this video would have been much short. And not in the Aermacchi's favour

For Christmas I received my first ever stick and throttle (I will buy peddles next month). I knew it wasn't going to be easy learning to fly but boy am I finding it hard. Trying to learn to turn the TD 51 Mustang on the ground is so difficult. Starting the thing up when I haven't got a head tracker yet is so aaarrgh. I always had plenty of respect for your skills. Now, you seem almost god like. Just wow.

this is like some war thunder moment, where the highest tech late cold war phantoms still get their asses whooped by MiG15s and Etendards if a close combat between the two happened
Would be nice seeing them with those cannon pods in real life too, in italy they are mainly used as trainers. The only time i recall they were meant to be used in "combat" was for national defence, more specifically to intercept low speed agressors like helicopters. This happened during that window when italy still didn't have the EFA in service and the f-104 wasn't really suited for that role

Owen Crippa of the Argentine Air Force found the British fleet in the Falklands on a flight around the islands. He almost engaged a helicopter, but didnt, and had to maneuver around the ships to avoid getting hit by cross fire to make it back to Port Stanley to report his findings.
I think Crippa was in the Naval Aviation, ha saw the RN in San Carlos during the landing.

Ha, good entertainment! There is an interview on TH-cam with a UK display Typhoon pilot. When asked how he would engage a Spitfire, he said he would use his climb performance to get above the Spit then orbit. The opponent could go nowhere or do nothing without the Typhoon immediately taking advantage. He would most certainly NOT have played ariel tennis handing the advantage to the opponent. Go figure.
It might be cool for them to add an option in the game for virtual observer "citizens" in the towns, cities, and bases, perhaps with the possibility of being near the crash, or seeing the pilot come down in his chute. Just a thought.

Pilot skill and a little luck. I learned a valuable lesson. Never thought I would see the Aermacchi beat a Eurofighter. Let alone twice.

GS: since youre allways looking at showing us new stuff, there is one thing ive NEVER EVER seen in these dcs dogfight videos: 3 way dogfights, all sides are hostile. Not a player so i dint even know if this is possible but would be a good watch.
i'm not sure if its a change to the sound design or that the aermacchi doesn't have as good of a sealed cockpit but my god that roar of the eurofighter as it crosses the nose should not be viewable to audiences under 18
This has actually been discussed in the MB339 vs Hornet vid, I think: Since the MB339 is itself much quieter than all the big bois, it doesn't drown out their noises, making everything much more clearly audible - and yeah, quite a treat for the ears!

Hey, are these fights in a specific dogfight serve or a session just between the two of them? I'm curious as sometimes GS doesn't say who the opponent is.

Is it specifically against the rules to extend? I can't see how no one ever energy fights the aeramacchi from the get go.
I kept wondering the same. Use the power advantage to extend and strafe the poor thing from any angle you wish. 🤷🏻♂️
I think so, this is obviously done to give the aermacchi an advantage, it is obvious anyone with a brain wouldn't fight it head on losing most energy in the first turn.
@@brokenursa9986 I didn't see fox-2s on the aeramacchi, though I'm not sure if that's just DCS not displaying it on the in-game model or not.
But by boom & zoom, I mean going all-in on that. Can a Fox-2 from a slow plane reliably catch an EF2000 in a steep dive at max burner from high altitude? Could it follow the EF back up? I literally have no idea, but I don't get why nobody's tried, even if it means stretching the rules a bit.
@@brokenursa9986 no Fox-2 here. Only guns. I think it was a rule not to extend. Reminds me of a fight I had in WT with my I-16 type 27 and enemy Typhoon. He tried BnZ but i jinked all his passes but I didn't have good enough MER to turn and shoot, until he lost his cool and tried to turnfight. Killed him in one turn.

This type of airframe it's fast close to the ground, probably it's having low parasitic drag because it's flying effortlessly in slight descent

If there is one thing ive learned it's this: the day i get DCS and i fly up against an MB339, i'll just automatically assume it's Growly and try to stay alive long enough to put up a good show as they say...
I think the irish Air Corp should invest in them aermacchi be a decent upgrade from prop planes we have... May cover ground faster and the RAF would back it with the typhoons to defend air space...
Should try T-38/F5 vs F15 or F22, my base over in Langley still uses the T38 trainer to train the F22 and F15 pilots.
