Been self taught since 17. Almost 40 now. I feel very insecure about my playing because of that. I understand where your coming from man. I love videos like these because you can hear a section and pause it to see how it’s played. It’s really hard for me to do it to the studio version just because there is so much other noise going on that it’s hard to hear the guitars sometimes. This guy does a phenomenal job and breaking these songs down. Thank you for helping me to learn more songs from one of my favorite bands!

Man, I wish videos like this had been around back in the 90's when I was a teenager first picking up the guitar...may have took me down a different path in life if I would've had instruction this great on demand 24/7. So here I am selling my electric acoustic guitar because I don't play it anymore, and I thought I's test it out to make sure it still works and it's still in tune after sitting there for 5 years... And it's really nice (Yamaha FG441c), I'd forgotten how beautiful this guitar is. And then naturally I start playing To Live is to Die and I'm figuring out that insane acoustic part (almost remembered it).
Now I'm in love with the guitar again, I ain't selling it. But I will watch this clip over and over again until I learn the solos completely, I remember this song and I had some unfinished business. Watching this gives me chills, thanks dude!

The Spanish part has always baffled me. As to how James wrote, how he came to choose those chords. He had never written anything that complex before or since really. Especially the chord with 10, 9, and 12 fretted notes with all the open strings. What would possess him to choose a chord like that for this piece. I would never in a million years think to use a chord fingered that strangely in a song.

It's so nice to see people like you who put such an effort into making these songs more accessible and easier to understand. I don't know if there's actually a muted triplet before every measure of the final harmony section (the part before "when a man lies..."), but since you can't hear it distinctly on the record I trust you on that.
Will you give me an advice? I'm a beginner and I can play pretty much all the rhythm part and the very first harmony section ("Epic Theme"). Only bit I have a little trouble with is the "crazy build-up" part of the "Spanish Heavy Riff" (btw why this name? Lol); is this a not so difficult tune to play or it's pretty tough, from your point of view?

Why Spanish Riff ? because these three chords are characteristic of Hispanic music. Play them in barre chords to hear it clearly: F # major, G major, A major.
You have to practice very slowly, with good motions (fingers and pick) and you will go for sure ! 👍
