    Colour footage is always impressive. It brings this era to life. They really were masters of aesthetics in every respect, it’s amazing footage. You can’t imagine a western democracy placing this much emphasis today on the opening of a museum, such was the importance of art, architecture and aesthetics to the third Reich. Thanks for sharing.

      Color film was rare in them days and although available it was too expensive for most. The interesting thing about this particular film was that it was shot by a member of the public whos hobby was filming . I got the book of this event and all his stills in it and its called A Weekend in Munich . Its a decent attempt to capture its time and place . I was born in Munich and it has always had an undeniable Romanesque charm.

      The world has change ... real interractions between humans aren't the same. You can be everywhere, in big cities, and you can see people only looking their phones, tablet, PC ... and a lot of people are staying at home. Public manifestations like in the footage are very rare today in our democracy's, so there is no emphasis today for a similar event.

      Most of what the Germans built is "stripped classicism" and it's pretty bland, devoid of elaborate ornamentation and decorative detail. I much prefer Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture.

    • @ArnoldTohtFan
      @ArnoldTohtFan 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@deitrichvonkeitel2613 I sometimes wonder what would have happened if Germany had decided not to preemptively invade Russia, or better still, decided to leave Poland intact in order to act as a buffer zone between Germany and Russia. I actually think Poland could have been very useful in such a role. Unfortunately the Poles were notoriously obstinate, an attitude that was encouraged by the British and French, and decided not to pursue diplomatic resolutions to territorial disputes created by the spiteful Treaty of Versailles. As much as Germany was the aggrieved party with legitimate demands, I think it would have been better in the long run to just repatriate the Germans living in Poland back into the Reich proper. In this way a resettlement of a mere few million Germans could have been achieved relatively peacefully, and not the 13 million that ended up being expelled and murdered in what became the largest and most brutal forced population transfer in recorded history.

The invasion of Poland is not "Because of the Jews" and Barbarossa is not "because of the Jews". The Communist threat or the inevitable wish of a vital space for Germany is not "because of the Jews". The USA and the UK solved all this problems by sending their surplus of population to their overseas territories like Canada, Australia, USA or New Zealand and geting nuclear weapons to defend themselves. Something that the germans didn't achieve.

      Balme the Brits cos they escalated both wars to be world wars. Brits declared war on Germany twice not other way around. Plus Brits had strong anti-German fobia from the 19th century: they planned to remove the German emperor, destroy German aristocracy, destroy Prussian values, destroy junkers and implement a democratic political system under Britis-american control. They made it after ww2 and you can see the result in Germany.

      chaleswey117 Yes, and now we all know how such accomplishments work. Here's the scenario: You create things that theoretically cannot be consumed, like infrastructure-buildings, bridges, and highways-and you employ most working age men into creating and serving in these public works and in arms and armament industries, after which you induct them into armies and other military activities. The problem is that this is a huge Ponzi scheme that will eventually crash unless it is constantly and unendingly expanded and channeled into aggressive wars. So you wind up invading and occupying a few countries, like Poland, France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland, Denmark, Norway, Greece, Albania, Bulgaria, Czechoslovakia, Yugoslavia, and Russia and declaring war on the United States. That's a few enemies too many, so they bomb your cities to rubble, kill eight million of your people, and lower the reputation of your country as the seat of one of the great Western civilizations to a depth from which it has not as yet fully emerged.
