This is crazyy, Spain Spanish has literally the same pronunciation of everything, so when it comes to Greek, its like listening to Spanish but not undertanding anything (as if your brain can't process the language lmaooo)
I’m a physics undergrad student and learning the greek alphabet is actually pretty helpful for my studies! Also it’s kinda crazy how much we butcher the greek alphabet in physics like we pronounce it so differently than it’s supposed to be.
@@helgathegreat Not the original commenter but I think I can answer! Math likes to use the small letters but the capitals also show up sometimes. I don't take physics but they show up in other fields of math and science too. The most common one used in math is π = 3.14..., that gets pronounced as "pie" instead of "pee" (probably the reason why lol). α is the same. But if you're writing it alongside the English letter a, people usually always write it in that fish-shaped way (like the α at 22:57). β uses the English "b" sound instead of English "v", and it's pronounced "bay-ta". γ gamma uses the English hard "g" sound, also the "ah" sound is less open. Both Δ δ get used as a symbol for 'change in [something]', that gets pronounced as "delta" with a hard "d" sound instead of "th". ζ I think people tend to say "zay-ta" instead of "zee-ta". θ I think some people also say "they-ta". λ, I think people say "Lamb🐑-da" but the modern greek way is also common. Math uses it as the symbol for wave frequency, among other things. μ gets pronounced "myu"/"miu". It's the symbol for micro-scale measurements e.g., 1 micrometer -> 1μm. Capital Π gets used as the symbol for product. Sigma is pronounced the same. Σ is used as the symbol for sum, and σ for standard deviation. Never seen ς. τ is pronounced "tau". I know it as 2 x π (6.28...). Caught me off guard that modern greek has an "f" sound in it! φ, I hear people say it like the start of "five", so a "fai" sound, not "fee". Most famously it's the symbol for the golden ratio. χ is spelled "Chi". So you might say it how it's spelled, but personally I've always been saying "kai". I've not been in places where people pronounce it with a "H" sound ahahah. Shows up as the name of a statistical test (χ² "Chi-squared"). ψ, I think people drop the "p" sound, and say "(p)sai". Ω/ω is the same. Ω gets used as the symbol for a unit of electrical resistance, "Ohm". ε, ο and ρ are pronounced the same (but people don't use omega outside of just as a name for something cos its the same as english "o"). Never seen ν, η, ι or κ and I've not heard people pronounce ξ or υ even though I've seen them before.
The thing is that we derive our pronunciation of Greek consonants from the ancient pronunciation used in Attic Greek before the Koine period. They're right, just not in Modern Greek, which has greatly changed in both phonology and grammar relative to both Koine and Ancient Greek.

Soon more exams are coming up so my stress levels are very high but your videos manage to help a bit with that. You have become a part of my daily routine and I truly wish you nothing but the best. Considering it was my dream to move to Korea, seeing you achieve this and all the other amazing things you have achieved so far makes me really proud of you. Take care💖
fun fact, the Russian alphabet is very similar to the Greek one, because once upon a time Cyril and Methodius (the people who made the Russian alphabet in the 800s) were "inspired" by it. therefore, the alphabet is similar and a fairly large number of words are pronounced and look the same as in Greek. the plus is that it is quite easy for Russians to learn Greek, because with almost no problems you can read a lot without learning the rules.
getting an hour lesson of greek in ASMR format is a BLESSING! I’ve been wanting to learn either Hebrew or Greek (per Bible purposes) so this is perfect! Amazing video per usual ❤
