  • This is a look back at Kawasaki's all-new KX250 from 1992. This is the second generation of Kawasaki's original steel perimeter frame and a significant upgrade in many ways over the original.

I had a '92 KX250 from new. I feel it is still the best looking bike from the 90s still to this day. The bike did handle like a ocean liner, and felt tall in the corners, but after riding it for a while you learned how to turn it with the back of the bike. As for the engine, stock it was mellow and didn't really have a hit. Adding a FMF pipe/silencer helped, but the biggest difference was adding a Boyesen RAD valve. That single part, along with race gas work the bike up big time! Combined with great suspension it was a beast. Unfortunately this era's chassis was prone to cracking, which I fought throughout owning it.
I love this bike, and one day I'll pick one up to rebuild.

Maybe it's just me but the 80s and 90s were a special time for motocross. I had a 89 CR125 for a few years and then bought a 96 YZ125 from a top Canadian pro rider at the time.. He was sponsored by Yamaha Canada and had some trick internals...the whole bike was tricked out.
After riding the YZ I couldn't go back to the CR.
The 96 YZ 125 was revolutionary

Who wrote this..I bought mine new & still have it. My 92 will turn under just about anything made. The suspension is set up for 140lbs max, stock. Making it almost unrideable , it just plain sucks in sand due to chaise geometry 26.5* even after respiring and re valving for My weight. I have a Tom Morgan prepped cylinder and head , with pro circuit pipe and silencer with a rad valve. With 110 octane fuel the engine rips

When i was 12 going on 13 my grandpa bought me a cheap 1990 for 600. Mind u it was a vibrating bolt eating hellhound deathtrap! But the engine had just been stripped and everything from new Crack and bearings and seals, as well as being race ported and bored over 20 thou, had all the jetting and lil goodies to make it fuckin haul ass. I can't recall the gearing it had but omfg itd dig and roost a corn field any size from one end to the other lol. As well as i kid u not over 100 mph. My grandpa who bought it speed matched me and paced me at 103 and no shit my 13 year old 130 pound ass had almost 1/3 rd of the throttle left to twist. Itd twist that wrist for sure lol. And dropped it off and omfg lol the raw power this had. Thing stood up every gear no problem at all. All my buddies adored it lol they always were taking off on it to turn around and jump right back off and go hell no lolol. Scared the shit out of everyone. And left many people speechless. Left alot of nice quads and bikes in the dust lol. Thing damn near'd take flight if i had the right tail wind when u crested the hill on a back country road! Lolol

I have a 92 kx250 i restored. The power valve on it is the coolest thing on a 2 stroke ive ever experienced. When you are high in the rpm and back it down you can actually hear the exhaust tone change from blatting loud to really quite and tame.

You do a great job on these videos and I would like to suggest that you maybe try to do a story about the Maico of the 1980 era. Also I understand it may take a lot of time but if you can maybe ( once again we need to respect your time ) if you could do maybe history of the manufactures as they got into the off-road or motocross motorcycle market. You do a fabulous job with all your content
