    I think the brand that bums me out the most with their recent direction is Milk Makeup. They used to be cool, artistic, irreverent... now they're just another mainstream makeup brand. I don't even really care if the products are good because they're so painfully boring.

      @lipstickzombie4981 they discontinued the entire blur lineup as soon as dewy skin became trend, which is just... spineless, IMO. But they also got rid of their super minimalist, natural products only a few years before the clean girl aesthetic became a big thing, which is so funny. They got rid of their amazing kush lip products but kept their mediocre brow gel. They've just become a beacon of corporate mediocrity

    maybe brands like Bare Minerals aren't as "popular" because they don't send a lot of PR, so content creators don't bother purchasing and talking about the products unless they get them for free

    • @ABCEggplant
      @ABCEggplant ปีที่แล้ว +27

      Maybe it's because I watch so much, but these influencers IGNORE brands that don't send PR, no matter how much they say they don't. Bare minerals is like Estée Lauder and Lancome. Their customer base is the older ladies like myself, the ones who got into makeup before social media. Before social media existed ladies had their brand and they’d stay very loyal, buying the same foundation and basic makeup products practically their whole adult lives. So they’re kept afloat by the people who still follow this system. There’s a reason double wear foundation and teint idole and bare minerals original powder foundation are the top three bestselling foundations despite getting very little influencer promotions

    The common factor in a lot of these is being bought out by either Estee Lauder or L’Oréal. I’ve worked for multiple Estee Lauder brands as an artist and one of my top things was trying to teach employees and myself how to redirect customers about discontinued products. They mention it all the time in their trainings.
    Too big to fail? Or too big to know what’s happening on social? Not sure.

      This is such an insightful comment! I’m so intrigued! I’ve made some videos on Estée Lauder Double Wear and I have sooo many questions, like why don’t they put a pump on it instead of making it an add on??

    • @dahliadialup
      @dahliadialup ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@HelenAvery I am so fascinated by their business. There is an entire ecosystem under their brands and department stores that carry them. It’s a dying art, but that was always a big question! The pump is like $10 now I think.
      I don’t know the exact reason why, but my educated guess is that they simply don’t update their heavy hitters. Unlike L’Oreal they do not tend to reformulate, they will just discontinue it. For a long time foundations didn’t come with pumps, you poured it out and cut it with moisturizer or mixed into your face directly. At this point its a money maker too. The clinique superbalance makeup also lacks a pump, but you can’t purchase one for that formula. Hope this helps/is interesting!

    Abou thebalm: I used to think their packaging was cute but now idk it looks a bit off to me. I’m sure there are still people that love it but maybe it’s more of a niche thing now, even benefit went a bit more minimal with their packaging and they had a very similar vibe to them. Other than that thebalm has some great products I love their liquid lipsticks and think their formula would still hold up to this day now that liquid lipsticks seem to make a bit of a comeback. Their blushes were really good too.

    Those smashbox Always On shadows are one of the best that people sleep on. If you work hard all day, in sweaty weather or work outside those shadows will be on perfectly the whole time. Root canals, funerals everything. A little goes a long way and they last for years. The studio skin foundation is fantastic for more mature skin. I don’t know if the formula changed though because they changed the name a bit. Just throwing in my opinion

    Cover Girl has one of the best foundations at the drugstore, the one with the red cap, the name escapes me right now, but it is beautiful, medium coverage, long-wearing, and really a great foundation. I never hear anything about Stila or Lorac or Elizabeth Arden or Clarins, and not much from Lancome except mascara and foundation, no one ever talks about their blush or shadows, Beseme is another that never gets mentioned even though the packaging is amazing, there are others.

    • @lipstickzombie4981

      Elizabeth Arden and Clarins are still thriving in my place due to their skincare. Clarins is the one that blew the lip oil trend wide open in the west. Stila and Lorac definitely on the ropes now. Besame is sadly not a store based brand in most places, their exclusivity is stifling them. Lancome's colour makeup is geared to an older crowd, the ones who will not hesitate to drop big bucks to keep their billion year old favorite shade around.👀

    Bare Minerals was the very first foundation that I purchased when I was a teenager. I still remember being at their store in the mall and the sales associate telling me to swirl, tap and apply! I still use it to this day but I haven’t used it in months. I still love their loose eyeshadow in the matte and glimmer shades. The one thing I really appreciate about Bare Minerals is they take their time to create a new product they are not in a rush like a lot of other brands that push out products so quickly.
    Thank you ☺️ for inspiring me to use my Bare Minerals products!

    The only things I did like from Kylie Cosmetics was their old packaging of the lip kits and highlighters. The old packaging was so nice and I'm so mad that she rebranded it for the highlighters since they were giving me a nice highlight and made it so natural. I wished she never got rid of her French Vanilla Highlighter. The only Covergirl complexion that I miss was the Ready Set Gorgeous. The lash bash mascara is my go to favorite mascara but I need to try the clean eyeshadow palettes. I do love the Urban Decay Stay Naked Foundation and I'm sad that it's getting discontinued cause that's my favorite high end foundation . Urban Decay's Naked 3 Palette is the only one palette that I miss in my collection so I might repurchase when it goes on sale.

    Bareminerals base:
    You can actually use liquid products on top of the bareminerals foundation, because its not a normal powder. (With basic foundation powders, they tend to get cakey if you do this). BM is mineral based, so you can use your liquid concealer as usual on top 🤍

The fact that one can buy their makeup in the drugstores here indicates that they look for new markets. Especially people like very much that kind of makeup style in Europe.
