- The Vancouver Canucks have acquired 4th round pick (2027 draft) from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for Ilya Mikheyev, Sam Lafferty, and a 2nd round pick (2027). The Canucks are retaining 15% of Mikheyev’s salary as a part of the deal. Quads and JPat (@rinkwidevancouver) break it all down on an emergency episode of Canucks Conversation.

Its good I guess, if we are big game hunting for Guentzel. But this is another Dickenson deal with a 2nd rounder out the door for what.. 2 years of salary for a guy making less than Garlund ? The Dickenson deal turned out pretty bad but everyone loved it at the time.

What in the hell are you talking about? Dickinson trade turned out good for both teams, he signed an extension for 4m+ with the hawks. Canucks would've let him go. The Canucks was able to make the moves they did by dumping him, even got blueger who was crucial in shutting down mcdavid and significantly improved pk and great depth c for bottom 6 who is significantly cheaper.
The Canucks have to try to go for it within the next 3 yrs, while Miller stays elite, Hughes on his current contract, Demko on his etc. Can't cry about 2nd Rd picks that may or may not become a crucial core piece to the team in 3-5 yrs.
The team could have went for Guentzel before dumping mikeyhev. This move just allows alvin to surround the team with better pieces rather than using internal players or league min players to fill the holes in line up. They could sign Roy, Dillon, Myers, Vrana on top of Guentzel. Without this dump, Roy calibre player is out of the picture.

Why do you need draft picks when you’re going all in on the cup? We were in the drivers seat going for the conference final against a team that went to game 7 of the final. You sell and mortgage everything everytime, nobody gunna be thinking about that draft pick in 3 years.
