That Astral Voices patch was incredible. It sounded more sample based than a subtractive analog synth. I can't believe it was created with simple waveforms.
I appreciate you posting this. I know I’ve wanted one very badly but 40,000.00 or more is crazy for any synth. And I am not too convinced by Roland’s Zen Core stuff. I am so hoping some company makes a great copy of the Jup8 but. Here’s to wishing.
I have in the past owned a jupiter 8 and many other machines. Over time, like many of us, I sold and bought other synths... well, I never understood the enthusiasm that there could be around the jupiter 8 that I didn't I've never regretted it and I'm not even talking about the completely absurd prices at which they are offered. Indeed, nothing very exciting in terms of possibilities on this keyboard with finally very classic things if not basic. A prophet or an Oberheim remain infinitely more interesting.
And here's the question. Why? Between the OBs and the Prophets there are so many similarities yet still they have different characters. The Jupiter is sort of like the third in that Olymp of analog Polysynths. The CS-80, the Memorymoog and the Synthex are pretty much in that league. From the songs I know and sounds I love, my go would be the OBs, at least over the Prophet. But the Jupiter 8 might be a tie. From what I've seen heard and a little bit played long ago, the JP8 does have a strong sound. I think its advantage above the others a bit was reliability and the direct possibility of split and dual. That in the others came later I think . The layout was really good but so is the Prophet too. The Highpass can be interesting in the JP and don't forget the arpeggiator. But why would a Prophet or an Oberheim be more interesting for you?
Considering that these are vintage analogue synthesisers, "the" actual, authentic sound is more of aspiration than a reality. In real life, no two units sound the same. Never mind environmental factors such as temperature. What you have to ask yourself is: does it sound good for what I want to use it for? If you play "Thriller" live using the Arturia software, literally nobody is going to care that you don't have "the real thing" on stage. Well, nobody - except you. And that can be a genuine argument. But the "authentic" sound, no, that's not relevant.
@@dan-h2g Well, yes, you don't want a 303 clone to sound like a DX7. But sometimes, people go a little overboard with their demands for "authenticity".
Well sometimes it is and it's just fun to play the original sounds. I love it on the D-50 or the DX-7 etc. However, if you wanna play Thriller sounds exactly you just have to use Arturia or a 100k$ plus studio Because as we now know thanks to Anthony, the Thriller brass consists on JP 8 and Prophet5 being played together plus real brass.
Very Nice Video 😊 Best Rgds ! Marcus 🕊️🎹🙋♂️

Another awesome video, interesting and informative, i've learn a lot. Thanks a lot!
What a great video♥️ I can understand fully what you’re describing & analyzing. Your teaching style is so immersive.
You're TL;DR explanation of subtractive synthesis is possible the best explanation I've ever heard. Thanks!!! You earned a new subscriber...

But the clones try to get as authentic sound as possible...

Get a Prophet 5. Then you will know what synth life is all about.
