It also feels to me as a sign of inclusion, since naturally they refer to their community as "Chat" during the streams, which are then uploaded to TH-cam, where we see it. For me in the streamer culture "Chat" more and more becomes synonymous with "my audience / community"
Nelson made a good point about how this is a vintage format so you have to play some number of staples to be competitive. I'm gonna ignore that and continue heckling Wheeler for not enough landfall in landfall deck
Absolutely love the way Serge reflects on his play and how to improve- It sucks to be losing all the time, and its refreshing to see that he is not super down on himself! Love me some Serge :)
I really love the discussion on this show about the game, what players could have done differently, talking during the game about potential actions, etc. It really adds a level of enjoyment to it, getting to see all the thought that goes into the gameplay which you don't always get in other shows about more serious non-commander formats
Hi everyone, stats guy back from vacation. First and most importantly, I am choosing to believe that Serge meant me specifically when he said "stats nerds out there, rejoice" at 4:38. I am rejoicing. As far as the stats go, Serge won the die roll, raising his die rolling success to 38%. Wheeler's die roll success has fallen to 67%. Wheeler won the match on the draw for a 60% winning record on the draw and a 72% winning record overall. Serge has lost the match on the play for a 47% winning record on the play and a 38% winning record overall.
35:01: A lot going on here! On the one hand, despite what Wheeler says, Serge does not actually have to announce Exalted when he attacks - it's not visible game state at this point, and only becomes so once combat damage happens. On the other hand, when Serge announces that it is a 5/6 prior to damage actually taking place, he is either missing his trigger or misrepresenting his board state. I'm curious what the ruling would be at a Comp REL event.
@@kevinwestermann1001 I don't think that's true. There are two things in tournament procedures that seem relevant here. First, the Magic Infraction Procedure Guide (IPG) says "triggered abilities are assumed to be remembered until otherwise indicated, and the impact on the game state may not be immediately apparent" (IPG 2.1). In the case of exalted, there's no impact on the game state until damage is dealt. Exalted is actually a specific example that comes up a lot precisely in this context, and from what I've seen, the rulings are pretty consistent that you're not expected to acknowledge your exalted triggers until damage is dealt or power/toughness are checked by some other effect. There's another interesting bit in that IPG paragraph: "If an opponent requires information about the precise timing of a triggered ability or needs details about a game object that may be affected by a resolved triggered ability, that player may need to acknowledge that ability's existence before its controller does" (IPG 2.1). That leads into the second bit of tournament policy: Second, the Magic Tournament Rules (MTR) say that power and toughness are derived information. Players "are not obliged to assist in determining" derived information (MTR 4.1). In general, you're not required to help your opponent figure out power/toughness. That's true for Tarmogoyf, All That Glitters, and exalted triggers. You can't lie about power and toughness, but you aren't required to help your opponent add things up until it has an effect on the game state. At competitive REL, it's clear that you don't need to announce exalted triggers on attack. You wouldn't get Unsporting Conduct for following the rules. To the original question, the actual ruling would probably depend on the judge's discussion with the players as they investigate the situation. The baseline assumption is that Serge would have missed the trigger. The annotated IPG gives an example similar to exalted with a creature that has an Inspired trigger, and it says that stating the creature's power and toughness without the effect of the trigger would be considered missing the trigger. Though I imagine it's possible that the judge could get information from the players that would lead them to think something else was going on.
On a slight tangent, if this was a match at comp REL, the aura bestowed onto the attacker would have 1 less counter on it because Serge technically missed the second trigger for it (triggers that add counters are considered missed immediately because they change the board state).
We finally get to see Sanctum Stompy on North100. We’ll see if Wheeler’s years of brewing landfall can compete with Shiny New Toy syndrome.deck. Thanks MH3 Edit: Serge played the deck before but we’re not going to count that because it was 18 minutes
I don't know if you've done this before, but maybe it would be interesting to see an episode where the guys make a deck for each other, because you know each other very well after all, could be interesting =) Great episode as always !
Great episode! I think there is some slight popping in this video? Noticed it a lot in the beginning when the intro was going on - tested it on mobile and with headphones on PC. Keep up the good work and looking forward towards the next episode!
58:31 I am pretty sure the order between the fight happening and Wheeler being forced to sacrifice an enchantment as Dromoka's Command resolves is irrelevant. Even if the edict happened after the fight, the Saga would go the yard as a part of the resolution of Dromoka's Command and Titania would die to state based actions after the Command resolves.
I agree with Ben's statement "I just get more value from my cards" I have been watching for several months now and it seems to me that Ben will have twice the amount of lands and cards every game. Wondering if the land count is too low in Serge's decks?
Oh I heard about landfall aggro on the podcast today! And I'd also like to thank Serge for inspiring me to play WB Pox in premodern. We may not have Death Cloud but I will try to make him proud anyway
Theres a very slight crackly sound happening in this at least near the start coming from wheeler's talking? Just enough to be annoying to hear but not enough to be anything
Sounds like an audio samplerate recording difference in mics compared to the playback speed in editing. It might be wheeler's mic, but it may also be the room mic. Isn't as apparent after 5mins. Sooo eg, playing back a 44.1kHZ recording with a 48kHZ recording of the same thing gets weird.
It's funny you say that because I was thinking the same thing, but instead I want Wheeler vs someone who (with peace and love) has a fighting chance against Wheeler
I've been thinking this for a long time. I love the show, and mean no hate, but seeing every episode play out the same gets a bit stale. Ofc, no result is a given, and the reason Wheeler wins so much is because he is a skilled player. Still wish I would see a rare upset every now and then tho.
I couldn't even watch past 40 seconds because Wheeler's mic kept popping and it was making me literally cringe in pain. I skipped to halfway through the video and it was still happening, so I just skipped this video and downvoted.
As a TH-cam Vod watcher who never gets to catch live streams I am honored to be called “Chat”. I don’t know what that says about me, but here we are.
Meanwhile as someone who also watches the streams, getting called Chat as a collective proper noun feels profoundly weird. 4th person perspective.
It also feels to me as a sign of inclusion, since naturally they refer to their community as "Chat" during the streams, which are then uploaded to TH-cam, where we see it. For me in the streamer culture "Chat" more and more becomes synonymous with "my audience / community"
Idk what that says about u either but I wanna say I like ur profile c:
I paused this video to join my work meeting, then came back and unpaused to hear "I bottomed my card. Happy pride." What a line.
Really enjoyed the chat after game 1, this type of thing makes North 100 the best
Nelson made a good point about how this is a vintage format so you have to play some number of staples to be competitive. I'm gonna ignore that and continue heckling Wheeler for not enough landfall in landfall deck
1:04:10 - Serge's deck position by his mic while shuffling gave us some _prime_ Shufflelander ASMR
Excellent, as always. Thank you!
22:55 😂
Absolutely love the way Serge reflects on his play and how to improve- It sucks to be losing all the time, and its refreshing to see that he is not super down on himself!
Love me some Serge :)
Ben's laugh at 23:00 should be considered for the next highlight reel
Positive feedback. I loved that you did a pop out for the MH3 cards. It's so helpful when you show off a few cards during the intro.
I really love the discussion on this show about the game, what players could have done differently, talking during the game about potential actions, etc.
It really adds a level of enjoyment to it, getting to see all the thought that goes into the gameplay which you don't always get in other shows about more serious non-commander formats

The intro today was so good. Editing just made Wheeler's silliness even better!
Thanks for uploading, it's great to view here.
I was a bit surprised to see Serge's deck call sanctum stompy instead of bestow beatdown
How am I, a small victorian child, going to know what it means?
Because people would heckle him for not playing 20+ bestow creatures.

Since Exalted triggers off of attacking, not announcing it on attack can be ruled as unsportsmanlike behaviour.

This match was wild! Both decks are powerful magic.
Serge saying Eladamri wrong like 7 times in a minute... killing me harder than gravity killed Eladamri 😅
this is the least i can do to support the very best constructed magic content on the internet.
slaps desk like a gorilla every time i see someone cast a berserk
"you can keep your deck in your hand" is such a killer thing to say while ending the game
"Now I have to do math. I hate math." You might have picked the wrong game to play Serge
Stats guy here. I'm on vacation, but I'll probably get to this tomorrow or on friday
love the banter as always
We finally get to see Sanctum Stompy on North100. We’ll see if Wheeler’s years of brewing landfall can compete with Shiny New Toy syndrome.deck. Thanks MH3
Edit: Serge played the deck before but we’re not going to count that because it was 18 minutes
Oh you mean Bestow Beatdown (jk)
💀
“Tastes Like Berserk” -tagline for mtg-themed energy drink
Thanks for having me, it's grrrrrrrrrrrrrrreat to be here
Wheeler forgot to take the demon core out of the pocket the lav mic goes in
Did he borrow it from Kyle Hill?
I don't know if you've done this before, but maybe it would be interesting to see an episode where the guys make a deck for each other, because you know each other very well after all, could be interesting =) Great episode as always !
Maybe with special bonus episodes with breakdowns of the builds.
Great episode! I think there is some slight popping in this video? Noticed it a lot in the beginning when the intro was going on - tested it on mobile and with headphones on PC. Keep up the good work and looking forward towards the next episode!
Really exited to see this after the mh3 analysis vids!
Wheeler said "it's berserking time" and berserked all over the place
Sanctum Stompy? Doesn't Serge mean Bestow Beatdown?
22:59 the quiet savagery of one Benjamin Wheeler.
We were chat before chat was chat
Watching this is definitely also making me a better magic player...
Serge talking about Wheeler always seeming to have an answer is definitely making me think about how I play.
I never realized just how Canadian Serge’s voice is until I watched this video
31:41 doesnt director have ward 1 here due to royal token and thus making karakas not possible?
I mean, you see it happen when it happens -- Ignoble Hierarch is always there to help
Thanks for the show! Creature's are so crazy
This is pre-points changes (today) right?
Im a simple man
I see North 100
I cast interact in the comments
Great games given the results, as always I love the content
Looking at this makes me a better magic player. thanks Ben andSerge!
Oh the rolling r's - it's gonna be a good one already.
As a big fan of berserk, this is some good magic
"I'm good at a lot of things... counting? Basic math? Not for me, friend." Oh we know, Serge "Off by one" Yager. XD
The mustache is back, baby!
At 38 minutes, is the line not to chump block and preserve the huge board state?
looking at the decklist for sanctum stompy, it says there's only 99 cards.
13:38 funny serge called the berserk while wheeler had it in his hand the whole game
I love and live for this content please give us more
Will you finish your Highlander shandilar run Wheeler?
I'm so excited after Ben talked up landfall
OooooooOOOOOooooo! -Serge
The man certainly appreciates a spicy play in Magic: the Gathering.
I agree with Ben's statement "I just get more value from my cards" I have been watching for several months now and it seems to me that Ben will have twice the amount of lands and cards every game. Wondering if the land count is too low in Serge's decks?

Bestow beatdown is so exciting
Serge pronouncing eidolon “I, Dolon” instead of what I’ve always heard (“Idle on”), was confusing and then amusing.
Commenting for Wheeler's spicy taint.
I love these Canadian Commander showdowns. . I keep trying to figure out each persons secrete commander. .
Fuck yeah
I love bestow beatdown
You know serge is a Seth better known as saffron olive fan by the way he pronounces eladamri
👍
As of this video serge has won more die rolls than I have of commander, good job serge! Bad job idiots (I'm idiots)
I always wanted to do this. Second.
hello it's me, Chat

Seems like this selesnia list is playing too many enchantment payoffs and not enough enchantments.

Getting a bit bored of Wheeler always winning. It's nobody's fault but I want to see Nelson v Serge for a few weeks just so there is some mystery.
It's funny you say that because I was thinking the same thing, but instead I want Wheeler vs someone who (with peace and love) has a fighting chance against Wheeler
