Horowitz, Kissin, Gilels, Cziffra, Richter, even Yundi Li are my favorites. I like them all for different reasons. Kissin is not playing to be compared to Horowitz. He is playing for his audience, and for the greater good of music. There are very few people out there in the world that can do what Kissin does. We are lucky to have him!
@Aleksandre Khundzakishvili you have great fundamentals and probably have been practicing long time. I was implying the dude was a beginner. I am a novice piano player, only been playing since April. I learn music theory starting in November, it should take me 5-10 more years to play this depending on how fast my improvement is. I have good technique but I’m braindead sadly lol
@Aleksandre Khundzakishvili It wasn't ridiculously hard but it is still very hard. The second page where the new theme comes in is very hard to get it to sound good. But none the less a great piece to play
It's remarkable his ardour to interpret this piece. How difficult must be to reach that level of humanity! We get so moved because Evgeny humanizes whatever he plays.
Certainly one of the best interpretations. Lovely 'pull back' at 47 seconds in ! Such passion and inspiration in such a short piece. Wish I was a good enough pianist to play this. Pure joy.
The faces he makes when he’s waiting for them to stop clapping. Can you imagine being in that concert hall, in the direct center, and it’s you telling THEM to be quiet?
I agree. He can be like Argerich in her own way as she herself describes as: "aiming always to play the same piece differently everytime." So; therefore, a performance by these eccentric types can never be expected again and any "typical" labels applied to them in terms of style can only be appropriately, and so, accurately...when their performances collectively over years is considered as a unit. (In my opinion) by the way I am a piano lover. No virtuoso however and I cannot stand all the virtuoso wannabes on TH-cam that make judgments about pianists as though they are equals among the likes of any virtuoso famous or not. Stuff like: "Pollini should throw in the towel in his old age" or "Argerich's prokofiev tempos shouldn't be seen as anything but questionable
Great played by maestro kissin. I'm gonna see him this month in the concertgebouw in Amsterdam while he plays a selection of the Scriabin etudes op 8. I can't wait!!
Why does TH-cam allow idiots/jerks like this to post such a vulgar reply???!!! His mom & dad sure must be very proud of him! Maybe they're just as vulgar as he!!! "Ach du lieber, mein schweinhund"!
I came here after listening to Horowitz's performance. Both interpretations are wonderful, but they deliver different sentiments. Kissin's version feels like an eerie ocean with hidden peril and air fueling up before the coming of a storm, while Horowitz's performance.. is the storm. Screaming, intense, passionate, turbulent, and unforgiving. Engulfs you right from the start and reverberates long after it's over. I don't know how to explain, but I find Horowitz's version to be much more captivating.
What a vibrant performance of this magnificent etude for piano by Scriabin. Certainly one of my favourites. A truly virtuosic performance by Kissin of an incredibly difficult piano study! Harry E W Smith, E.D., A.D.M. Dip Health Couns
Up to this moment I have never considered any performance of this piece as clear, under control, and full of both transcendental fury and pathos as I have heard here. Bravo.
Wow! This is exhilarating, full of passion he touches my heart when kissin plays this piece. He makes music. There is only one and only one Kissin who can turn on the world of his music.THANK YOU MR. KISSIN. toronto
This interpretation of this piece is my favorite th e great dynamic of crescendo and decrescendo is just beautiful his playing is so so expressive it just blows me away. I did also listen to Van CLiburn.
and again, that's just "your opinion"; who the hell are you to tell Zinnia this is right that is wrong? all these ignorants proclaim that what etude has to be like what, no. Etude is just an etude; a practice song. For interpretation? no, for skill improvements. Chopin etude, Scriabin, Liszt transcendental, Rachmaninoff's etude whatever. Etude is just a skill practicing series. No difference to Hanon. And it's all about showing off techniques. There are all these comments : "Hey I'm right you're wrong", or "this guy is the best" but oh, Concerto has to be performed like a concerto, etude has to be done like an etude and the last, etude is just a practice song. There is no "interpretation".
stanford choi wow I never heard so much bullshit in one message. Every great etude is an amazing opportunity for musical interpretation. The name "etude" only says there's a certain technical difficulty to the piece. every Chopin etude, Skrjabin etude, Rachmaninoff etude, etc is way more than just technical development.... of course there's no right en wrong to an interpretation as long as one reads the score carefully. Kissin does it his way, Horowitz plays it differently. Which interpretation you like is up to you. For me Horowitz is THE king of this etude
My God, so expressive, magnificent interpretation. I found out about this study in Bertolucci's film and, since then, I haven't been able to stop listening to it. This pianist is extraordinary.
i love kissin, this is the best recording of this piece ive heard, no one else i've heard can match him. This is my favorite piano piece, but only when kissin plays it, anyone else i dont like it as much.
Everyone talking about what version of which pianist is better... If you think Kissin plays better than other pianists, keep your opinion and don't try to convince others
Es denso sin llegar a ser bullicioso, es poderoso y brillante sin ser apabullante. Excelente dominio de los fortes, bien definidos para sentir la música en su apoteosidad
Unsurpassed! The best interpretation. Kissin understand this music deeply, feels it and makes us feel it, understand it, and experience the meaning of the music. This performance is superior to Rachmaninoff, Scriabin himself, Horowitz, and any one who is on TH-cam. Kissin understands this music better than anyone else! This music requires amazing honesty that very few pianist have. I would love to hear Benjamin Grosvenor play this piece. We have begun a new golden age... How exciting!!!
hahha, i played scriabin's version(him playing) at the same time as this one and for the first minute they sounded almost exactly the same. Kissin's interpretation is wonderful and i really like this. =) One day he will be even more amazing than now somehow.
@Diomedes22 that is the single most appropriate description of a piece i've ever heard, it is just ridiculous how on the spot you are. i didn't even think thoughts like that were possible, thank you
Whenever pianists like Kissin play, I completely blank out and become lost in the music, until the audience starts clapping and bring me back to my senses.
This interpretation is awesome. But Horowitz played this piece perfect, amazing, brilliantly, more beautiful, than all pianists in the world. After Horowitz’s playing, I can’t listen nobody. I don’t know what is wrong with this piece. From Russia with love)))

Add Dinu Lipatti.
Insane awesome
And he hits better than Horowitz
Also Alexei Sultanov is absolutely genious
Not horowitz
Incredible genius-- both the composer and performer.
Okay it's official, I'm going to start learning this piece right now.
@Aleksandre Khundzakishvili It should take about another year for this piece. xD

Yes indeed🎵He is miracle🎵🎶
The pull back, omg :) 💕
Kissin can do no wrong in my book. He's currently my fave. Has been for years now. The clarity of his playing is beautiful. I can hear every note.
The faces he makes when he’s waiting for them to stop clapping. Can you imagine being in that concert hall, in the direct center, and it’s you telling THEM to be quiet?
Played perfectly as usual from this genius
Kissin's tone and touch as a pianist is stunning as always. Very few come close.
I agree
I will study 24 hours 7 days.U will see im able to get close.lol.Like 7 km at least.
Cziffra is the man though
He is great but Horowitz owns this piece in my opinion.
horowitz plays it better lol
Kissin always have his own way to play pieces which i like it! who agrees?:)

I cannot stop listening to it. A perfect piece for Kissin.
I think this is the best performance of this magical piece of music. Absolute perfection. Brilliant.
Listen to Alexey Sultanov. Also interesting and beautiful
As someone who has actually performed this in public, I totally agree.
Thanks for your comment.
I absolutely agree ! It’s phenomenal 👏👏👏👏

The greatest pianist off our time, FACT!!!
I may even go as far and say of all time!!! :)
J'adore cette étude passionnée et émouvante ! Très belle interprétation.
Evgeny really nailed this piece!!! bravo!!!
Yes indeed 🎵👏
makes you realize what an absolute genius scriabin was. how can someone write something like this, let alone play it.

He is wonderful and I love Kissin's interpretation.
A beautifullly clear and precise interpretation of Scriabin's notes. I hear Scriabin's screams throughout and yes: they are loud. and so much more.
I'm always amazed by his sound, each note so clear
One more great from Evgeny Kissin... I'm starting to fall in love with the music HE transforms.

Perfect performance of this piece. Kissin is flawless.
