    I personally like the expansiveness and abundance of resources in new caves with the added danger of swarms of hostile mobs. I like how there's no end cause it gives far more freedom to explore which that's what Minecraft is all about. It up to you to decide what to do. Will you build up to reach the ores on the ceiling? Will you explore the caves by flying with elytra wings? Will you build a massive base in one of the open caves? With the newer caves there's so many more options and that is why I think they're better.

      The problem with that freedom is that all caves are like that, missing the feeling of novelty of finding a huge cave. In the old generation of caves we never realized the disadvantages of large caves in mineral mining because large caves were very rare. Now that huge caves are everywhere, we realize how uncomfortable it is to mine in them.

Older caves tended to feel pretty samey and boring after exploring just a few, and when I go back to pre-1.18 versions I just don’t feel as exited to go mining/caving as I do on versions post-1.18.

  • @viniciusgoulart5077

    Imo the cave update would have been better if they had decided to build upon the old narrow caves instead of scrapping them for something totally different
    Just as an example maybe instead of caves being made of 100% stone from beginning to end, they'd only be so between y= 60 and y= 40, then change to polished granite between y= 40 and y= 20 and then change to polished diorite between y= 20 and y= 0. This goes a long way on making cave exploration feel fresh and exiciting (also btw I got this idea from the Better than Adventure mod lol, so I highly recommend checking it out)
    I feel like the update turned caves into something not necessarily worse, but still completely different. And I don't think it was necessary to change them that much

    The part about the new caves being complex is kinda why I like the caves, but that's just me being biased (I started playing at the end of 2022). Also, I like going and finding a big cave with high ceilings. It just looks magnificent. (I also don't bother with stacking up to get ores on the ceiling unless it's diamonds lol). However I respect you senior players of the game. I'm sure if I started playing back when I first heard of the game, I'd probably feel the same way. Back then I judged it hard, because I didn't understand what could be fun about playing a game made of blocks. Nowadays I spend more time mining coal for all those hundreds of torches (spawnproofing) than actually exploring caves. And yeah Netherite was a big mistake....
    At the same time I can't truly warm up to beta 1.7.3 because it just lacks too many QoL features that were already there when I started playing (FOV slider, free buttonmapping, crouching while mining, all manner of accessibility settings, etc.) So I still stick to newer versions.
    The new ore distribution is cool, but it only works for iron, all the other ores are stuck either only low down or only high up - they should all be found on either side of the extreme at varying y levels imo. All in all my favourite version has to be 1.8, it still had the feeling of isolation and "Minecraft-iness while being more polished than Beta.

    So some counter points
    One: mending made diamonds useless not the cave update, once you made armor and tools you'd never need diamonds again.
    Point two: strip mining existed for ages that would last hours with infinity diamond that is just mining in a straight line,
    Third point it's impossible to get lost mining, place a Lodestone (even stronger point if you upgraded diamond then you should have one) then make a compass then click the compass on the Lodestone go mining then find a way or dig a way out and use the compass and boom never lost again
    4th: diamond uses if you have so many, beacons, and even armor trims will eat up diamonds so quick that you will always have a use for them.

    • @joffedy
      @joffedy  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I get your points, it’s more of preference for me personally, and my own personal views on it all, as you have as well. @@grimms8783 It’s a bit of both, not only do I prefer old caves, but diamonds have also lost value. It’s like when anything loses value, there’s less of a desire for it.

      @DemonKonijntjeAsh 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@joffedy my personal view people said that extract thing 2016 with mending then people got over it and moved on, and then in 2019 the pillage and village update made you able to just get infinite diamond tools that are enchanted from villagers before the cave update. Just to think about only 82 diamonds (barley over a stack) was all you needed for every diamonds item you'd ever need (tools & armor & enchanting table/jukebox,) then mend your gear and they will never break. then no more need for diamonds all before the cave update.
      From my experience I've been searching for diamonds all the time even yesterday because duplicating my template left me with none and that's only for 1 template style I found for my armor, and because of the reduced air exposure of diamonds they are still tricky to get a lot of unless you strip mine which has been a strat sence diamonds were added.
      And most of Minecraft direction with all of these updates was by Jeb who was leading the game mostly sence 2012.

    • @joffedy
      @joffedy  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DemonKonijntjeAsh I never had an issue with mending, as it’s not as easy to come by, most of the time I still had to mine more diamonds for a while to keep replacing tools and armor before I got mending on it all. Mending on every piece you owned was an endgame thing, so anytime before that you still had to keep finding diamonds. I think the argument of diamonds for armor trim is just unnecessary as well, trims are completely cosmetic. Useless. The only real use for diamonds that can be argued is for beacons and to make enchantment tables. Other than that they’ve lost all their value, they are no longer the best when it comes to armor or weaponry, and everything else you can do with them just has no point to it.

      Also you could most definitely get a lot of diamonds in old caves considering they didn't end either, they constantly looped into other cave systems and you just have to stay at Y=11 to get stack on stack of diamonds.
      The only difference in diamond generation between old and new is that old was consistent and regular with smaller yield while nowadays it's inconsistent with bigger yields, making finding diamonds statistically harder due to a lower mining level and sparser chances while giving a higher reward when you do find them.

      @@grimms8783 Mining within tens of blocks down just to find a massive cave with hundreds of diamonds in it does not by any means make them harder to find. The difference between strip mining at Y=11 and a massive underground cave is the fact that you could get a decent amount of diamonds in a short time strip mining, but sometimes it takes forever to get any. Whereas any cave nowadays that is low enough will give you a guaranteed few hundred without you having to dump any time in. Strip mining was a gamble on if you were going to get diamonds, new caves are not.

    I don’t know about you, but mining absolutely SUCKS.
    About a month ago I started a hardcore world in 1.8, because I was hearing about all the hype about old minecraft being better etc etc. and I played it for a while, but then realised I had literally spent half the time on the game mining, only to ever find one small vein of diamonds. Like seriously man, what the FUCK is fun about that. Either getting lost in caves for no reward or strip mining for hours for very little reward is shit. And I thought all this was fine until me and my friends started a server on the latest version, and I realised with the new caves there’s so much more to explore and mining no longer takes up your whole entire fucking life.
    Also no one mines until they finish the cave, they mine until they have the stuff they need, tbh I think you were just trying to think of an argument on that one

      I love the boring painstaking parts of Minecraft. It’s good contrast to the rest of my life as everything is always moving so fast, there’s always so much going on. It’s nice to just sit down and be “bored” for hours on end. The “boring” parts are the most fun for me, and I wasn’t just making up an arguments, I did use to mine to the end of caves, and then I’d stop mining after I finished them. I can’t do that anymore, there’s rarely ever an end to a cave, and I can never mine every ore out of any of them.

    You’re goddamn right. Initially, for me, the Nether update was the worst update ever. That was until the caves and cliffs update, which made all current versions unplayable for me, and mainly due to a reason that no one seems to be touching on.
    Mining used to be simple; you would dig down to Y level 12 or thereabouts, and just dig. All the ores could be found at once. Nowadays however, I if one needs iron, he has to mine at a seperate level just for that, which has made mining much more inefficient and tedious. I have to mine more just to get the same amount of ores I used to get. When mining too, or even cave diving, you get to a depth where coal is rarer than diamonds. Usually, you would craft torches with the coal you would find along the way…but now? Like I’m sorry, I’m not setting up a mine just for coal. Worst update in history.
    I have rediscovered Beta 1.7.3 recently and I haven’t looked back. It is so much better than modern Minecraft.

    You can still put torches as indicators of where you were, its just that you need more of them.
    Not to mention that even before the nether update the community was BEGGING for a cave update.
    You could always bumb up gamma so you didnt need torches, that was alsways in the game.
    Torches are still useful provided you dont outright cheat by changing the gamma settings. you are essecialy complaining that cheating makes a part of the game obsolete, DUH NO SHIT!
