Yes, he did have one of the worst rosters the Wings have ever had, but a change was still needed, and Lalonde has won two cups in the NHL as an assistant coach. He has far more experience of winning at the NHL level than Blashill.

Cassidy and Montgomery are almost certainly better coaches at this point, having won in the NHL as head coaches. DeBoer and Maurice have successful histories as head coaches in juniors as well as in the NHL. Any of them would have been an excellent choice for the Red Wings. Lalonde may yet prove to be the best choice, but he's never been an NHL head coach, and as such is an unknown quantity at this time. The Red Wings are acquiring young players who need the experience of a HC who's done it before and can lead them. As it is now, Lalonde will be learning his new job at the same time young players are looking for guidance. I think Lalonde is a good choice, but may not be the best choice.

We still don't know the injury he had that made it so he couldn't play in the world championships. They just said a lower body injury is the reason he isn't playing and he is going back home. They never once said when it occured or what got hurt. Just that he couldn't play on it. Which makes me think he got hurt after the 17th of January and the red wings just kept it quiet. @@terryprice6122 I don't think blashill was a bad coach, just time to move on. if he came in at the time stevie did it would have been different. He was handed a roster by holland that was built to just make the playoffs and that's it then holland traded futures for guys on their last legs. Blashill worked with what he was given. Stevie said a lot of it was more on the roster Blashill was given but it was time to move on. The reason blashill was fired was mainly due to the fact our defensive game started falling apart after January 1st. We still didn't have a roster that could win anything or even make the playoffs. Hronek needs to go he is horrible in his own end. Lindstrom needs to go too he is horrible at defense. Dekeyser needs to go. Those 3 were horrible this year. Then the forwards need to learn to cover their man as well. Too often were our forwards letting guys get wide open. Rasmussen, zadina and erne all were bad.
