- Detroit Red Wings Governor, President and CEO Christopher Ilitch and Red Wings executive vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman welcome the 28th head coach in franchise history, Derek Lalonde, live from Little Caesars Arena.
Well I can't wait for the season too start I hope the Red Wings have a great year and make the playoffs !!!! He's got alot of young talent player 👏 👌 😳 🙌 🤧 😎 👏 most of them could be potential 🌟 🤩 stars 🌟 🤩 😀 😆 go RED WIBGS!!!
Way to go Stevie. Derek seems like he’s all business and I can’t wait until we are consistently competing in the playoffs again.

I like the hire welcome to Detroit Derek Lalonde!! This is the type of coach that the Red Wings need I think Lalonde is the real deal they need to improve on there defense.
come one lets be clear - they need to get better at all aspects - their PK and PP were absolutely terrible . 5 on 5 were ok to a point, there is a LOT of room for improvement .
This was a brilliant move by Yzerman, Were so lucky to have him as the GM in Detroit.
Give it 5 months and you guys will be running this guy outa town

Definitely experienced and battle tested throughout the years in Tampa. Seems like a very smart and intelligent guy. Players coach for sure, and love hearing how important it is to build a relationship with players. Wish Lalonde nothing but success in Detroit! LGRW

Just remember folks - every new guy coming in - people are excited . I saw the islanders hired Doug Houda today and they mentioned that he was responsible for Seider being so successful . I thought that was pretty hilarious . I said he might have opened the door for him to get on the ice but that is about as far as that goes.
Though ill admit that we are STILL a long way off of crossing the contending line, and being taken seriously as a play off team. But this was a smart move by yzerman. They know each other very well back in the lighting days. Now we will have to see if derrick lalonde can turn the wings into what he did for tampa

Stop saying process, the redwings are there. The process was over when they played against Tampa opening night. Yea they lost 6-5 ot but, they were a tough team to play. They just needed a coach to take them over the threshold. I believe they will be ready this season, Redwings will be in the playoffs this year. They may or may not win the cup but definitely a contender. This coach worked with John cooper, John cooper said he’s ready or over ready so take that his word for it. So this team is ready and hungry. We are hungry Bring lord Stanley back to HOCKEYTOWN
This is delusional. You can't judge a team on opening night. The latter half of the year where we actually played against tough competition we got destroyed. 2 years+ from being a perineal playoff team. Stop listening to Valenti on 97.1 lmao
What a difference a good GM makes. Cough cough cough Mr owner. Look at your Tigers. Your GM there made the statement" the rebuild is over". Well, the finished product ain't much good. Similar results but now at a more expensive price makes no sense. Realistically. It's going to be 3 years before this RedWings team makes any Impact even if they brought Scotty Bowman back in. I believe they're on the right track and trending up but doing it right is gonna take a minute

Lalonde was really the brains within the Tampa coaching crew, seems fitting that Yzerman tapped him from the Tampa machine considerng it was Yzerman who laid the foundation of the current team down there.
Don't sell Cooper short, but it is clear in the way he talks and carries himself that this guy is very ready, he still needs players and this team as presently constructed has a way to go . They have LOTS of Cap space and some good looking prospects coming but the have a long way to go. You hear them talk about defense / structure You would be surprised how good of a defensive coach you are when you have the best goalie in hockey for the past 4 years .
@@pjpredhomme7699 I'm certainly not selling Cooper short, but Cooper was really in the right place at the right time with TBL, Cooper associates and surrounds himself with guys who are top notch, but again, there is no "I" in team.

John Cooper didn’t have NHL head coaching experience, except the season where he had to take over for Guy Boucher, didn’t have a season below .500, went to 4 finals, and won 2 finals.
