Well Mr. Lo-Res DIY.... I gotta thank you for this easy to follow video; I've tried several others which skips some steps in their video as they assumed the viewers understood what to do next. You took the time to literally go through step-by-step and I finally have a working share.... Thank you and you now have a new subscriber!

Hey man, thanks for all your work here. This video is the reason I now have a 40TB raidz2 NAS as someone who has never built a NAS, used Linux, done any kind of programming and has no idea how to use a terminal.
Visual step by step was invaluable, cheers.

This video was excellent to watch for a first time TrueNAS user. I was able to get my server up and running, and had no issues. My version was a little bit newer than this video, but I was able to find everything I needed. Thanks for putting this together.

Thank you so much for your videos on Truenas Scale. Your videos have finally given me the confidence to migrate my Truenas Core server to Scale and it was great. For what I use, the scale apps are much easier than maintaining the core jails. Thank you.

Thanks man, this helps a lot! I was stucked for a moment until I realised after installation I could just ignore it (I'm installing using rufus and installed it on my C: drive on a desktop, I don't know that after that at the configuration page, we could just ignore and use it right away on google to ip address), that's why now it quite make sense that we don't need a screen after the setup. But all an all, hope we can get an upcoming content on how to set it up with phone usable. Thank you again my man!👍👍

I set up trunas scale over a month ago and I could not map a network drive accessible through windows 10 to save my life. Every time I got "network folder not accessible". I deleted all the datasets and users and storage and started again. Watched 6+ hours of tutorials on youtube and still nothing. I want to thank you SO MUCH, after watching your video, I realized that my permissions for owner were not correct and I changed them and now I have a mapped network drive and access on my local network. I am currently working on getting my emby server up and running, and I cannot figure out how to access media/storage from the nas mapped drive through the app media share. I've tried \\192...\storage... and mnt\storage... but I will keep looking. I appreciate you making this video and clearly stating each step so that people like me can understand.

    • @LoResDIY
      @LoResDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Glad it helped.
When you are installing the Emby app there should be a section called "Storage". Click the Add button and in the section "Mount Path in Pod" input the name of the directory of you media i.e. /mnt or /media. In "Host Path" drill down to the data set you media is stored in. Then when creating a library in Emby go to that directory.
      Hopefully this helps you out.
      Cheers!

A tip I just came across... If you're getting the "Bad shim signature" error, turn off Secure Boot. In older BIOS' like mine, this was achieved by switching Secure Boot from "windows" to "other OS". Hope this helps someone else!

I am having an issue with mounting a networked smb drive TO my truenas scale system so that I could use it within plex (hosted on the truenas docker). Would love to see a video about that, as there doesn't seem to be many out there.

8:45 Any kind of hand holding is appreciated. I going to go with z1 as one drive of paraity or what have you is fine, I'll start with three drives, then when I can free up two other drives of their data I'd like to expand the pool to 5 drives. I also have a 500GB SSD to act as storage for Apps, but I saw your test pools so I'm presuming you'll be setting up that way shortly as I saw one pool named apps
TL;DR I would like to know what's going on with the machine, so yes please

Good video I think you are the only one that's ever used the quick boot menu, others lead people into the bios just to boot the install stick. Only thing I think could have been changed is wiping the test disk to eliminate the optional install choices, but still a good video. Was wondering if you have ever tried Ventoy for USB install stick, it's the only boot stick you'll ever need, as it allows for the drop and drag of images.

So, once I create my pool and add an user to it, and everything as you did - Can I/ Should I create a different pool for movies and install Plex on it? My goal is to use truenas as a data storage and also I want to run a plex player, but I don't want my data to be shown for everyone who watch the tv? What is the best way to doing it? Create a different user? Or different pool ? How can I differentiate the 2?

Good morning. I am at a conundrum for testing purposes only I set up true Nas scale on a virtual machine in the cloud and the IP address that was given to me I can login the webpage and access it. No problem I can also access that same IP address to my machine to access the data off of the drive, however, if I take this machine outside of my home, Netwerk, I am unable to access the IP address that was assigned to the machine. Is this a flaw in truenas scale that people are unaware of?

Question: Is the reason that TrueNas Scale require 2 HDD of the same size because it is using for storage ? If so then you would need 2 drives for each addl piece of storage that you add into the system, am I understanding that right ?

It creates a copy of the os so if one boot drive fails, it has another to boot from. It makes little sense to have your main array to be redundant but if your operating system drive goes bad you're dead in the water

I like the eye candy of TrueNAS and the simplicity of TrueNAS Scale with their better VM support. However, I am not a business so I choose using Proxmox and managing my own ZFS multiple vdev pools/raidz setup and then using an LXC Debian hosting the passed through (your video helped me on that) raidz passed through for a simple Samba server. I have tried numerous NAS operating systems to include TrueNAS Scale and find myself wishing for eye candy with simplistic sharing without the extra overhead of things I don't need. I guess this is why I like Proxmox as it is minimalist with the ability to build it the way you want. I just wish that Windows did not have issues with activating on Proxmox. Those who get their Windows activated seem to be lucky.

    • @wriel1312

This interface is TrueNAS core . Trunas Scale looks quite a bit different on latest version and its menues , options and funcionality is quite different . Also , you are using Linux based server OS but not going trough how to set up UNIX shares for those who use Linux . Unix shares to set up are different from SMB . ALso SMB is pure garbage , but its OK for Windows users accesing TrueNas server . But for Linux users , why in the hell would they use SMB over NFS / UNIX shares ? Its counter intutive . Also your mugg bubble is in the way of everything and no one can see what you are doing . Quite annoying .
