Hey I really appreciate this video. I am building my server with truenas for the first time and saw the Lawrence systems video but couldn't figure out where that setting correlated to on truecharts apps so I set it up following your old videos first. Mistakes happen and it never hurts to get more practice with your servers

I was one of the affected people, I lost a lot of configuration. They did provided a tool to migrate the PVCs but it doesn't work with apps that used PostgreSQL or MariaDB. So it messed up my nextcloud entirely. Luckily I had the data in a hostpath, so I lost only the configuration

There is no list of regions and host names where you show it in the vid. Does anyone know where to get these? This is a MAJOR hang-up that makes this vid unusable. Plus, the capture resolution isn't fine enough to just copy what you're doing. I'm lost because of lack of info.
thanks for the videos, these have been super helpful with playing around truenas scale, I still have one question about using gluetun setup, it is kind of similar to openvpn setup, and my question is if I set it up this way for multiple dockers will it make new connections for each docker or use the same one for all of them?
nevermind there's a guide on the truecharts gluetun page how to setup a proxy for the same app and you can connect other apps through the proxy

Yeah, I get mixed results every once in awhile. I was told I need to get on a private torrent server and the issue will disappear. I haven't tried it yet but IDK. If you try it out please let us know your results.

I do NOT think you fucked up. The truecharts support explicitly says they do NOT support or condone host path. They told me to install to PVC... Tbh, even with this guide, and many different attempts and permission configurations, I was never able to get it working properly on host paths....PVC worked for me no problem. Now if only I could get Glueton to support IVACY!

@LoResDIY or anyone, have you ran into the error that resides in the log for the qbit app talking about nameservers and possible DNS leaks? Exact error:"WARN [dns] ⚠⚠⚠ keeping the default container nameservers, this will likely leak DNS traffic outside the VPN and go through your container network DNS outside the VPN tunnel!"
1. Should I be worried even tho we are binding through the application?
2. If we need to fix this what do I do?

Thank you! Are you able to switch from PVC to Host Path without having to redo all the settings if it is installed and working already?
If you use the heavy scripts script or move the files yourself from PVC to a temp location, create the host path dataset, and then migrate the files over to the host path - then the answer is yes
Edit: if you already started fresh or deleted the old app running the PVC then no 🫤

The PVC issue sounds more like an oversight of the TrueNAS controls exposed to you directly. PVC's have multiple behaviors you can assign it when you no longer need the volume. You can tell the underlying Kubernetes API that you want the volume to continue to exist even after your pod no longer needs the volume using "Retain" rather than "Reclaim". It sounds like TrueNAS is defaulting to "Reclaim" always.
I have a video idea. When you set your app pool to some HDDs but later on you want to upgrade your applications pool to an SSD ... show the transfer process. I've read horror storries about PVC/host pathing issues. I'm scared to do it even though I only have 9 apps.
Playing around with it, I found that you don't need anything more than Provider, user, and password for it to connect. It will find the rest of the information for you, unless you want it to specifically come out of somewhere on a specific port.
That said, I'm still trying to figure out a speed issue. Without the VPN enabled, I'm getting 100MiB/s+ but with it, I'm getting around 25 KiB/s.

When I switch to Host Path Qbittorrent will no longer successfully deploy. It says something about not be able to use the IP address. It has been a few days and the PVC setting works so I just switched back to PVC.
I dont seem to be able to get the PIA vpn to work at all, Seems to just go in a looping, gives no errors to work with.
Any chance you will be doing a frigate install in truenas scale?
I have never tried it, but may have a look.

I could not get port forwarding to work with PIA VPN. I found out the US servers dont support port forwarding.
What about port forwarding with OpenVPN PIA?

Hey, with the PVC, that works well but if you are migrating or updating apps, you need heavyscripts. So you can mount the volumes super easy and do the backups you need.

This is correct. If you use HOST PATHs for your app paths, if you snapshot them, it does not include the file system contents at the time of the snapshot. With PVC, you can snap back to those contents in case they get messed up.
I use rsync to backup all of my "host paths" to a separate NAS. I've tried heavyscripts but I've yet to put too much time into it. I need a way to use heavyscripts to backup my "Apps" and then use rsync to move that backup to a seperate NAS. That's the one thing that I find annoying about TrueNAS Scale. There doesn't seem to be an easy way to backup the CONFIGURATION of the Apps. With Docker on Synology NAS, I could backup the container config.
@@chrisdsanders backing up the "apps" is what heavyscript does, in addition to the PVC data volumes. If you don't have the two that match, you may not be able to do much with them.

Not too sure why, but my truenas doesn't have apps.. i got plugins and jails
There are 2 versions of Truenas,
1) TrueNAS Core which is built on FreeBSD
2) Truenas Scale which is built on Debian
Core uses Jails and Scale uses Apps. My videos are based on Truenas Scale.
