Just start sewing! Start small. Make a couple placemats or a table runner. If you do not have access to a sewing machine, start hand sewing. Go to a thrift start, get an oversized shirt and take in the sides and shorten the sleeves. It may not look very good, but wear it when gardening or cleaning.
Read how to books. Watch sewing videos. Look for classes in your area. Everyone starts somewhere and your first projects will not be very good. Just keep sewing and practicing and you will get better.

I love the drape of that overskirt. It just looks so lovely. The pattern piece in the back did take my brain a minute to do the mental gymnastics to figure out where it was going and then the lightbulb went on. As for me, I have put my knitting on hold after two snow storms dumps so much snow here in my city in. Every March I think....ah early spring and then I am reminded this is, indeed, Norway and I am living near the arctic. So, wrists are sore from all the shoveling and the knitting is just too heavy. I keep reminding myself that I am not in Truckee or Tahoe, so nothing to complain. 4 or 5 ft is not 53ft! So I have been peacefully embroidering this week. I've also been hand hemming my skirt that I did get stitched up after the fantastic suggestion from you to use starch. It is a bit hard to come by here, but I did manage to find one bottle of spray (better than nothing) and have more on order so I can start with my blouse next week. Might look into how to with homemade starch, starch my whole fabric prior to sewing which I read somewhere this week is an option for squiggly linen. Never done that either. I've starched after a garment is made.

I think corn starch like the one you use in cakes is somehow involved (called Maizena in Portugal, I think it also goes by that name in other European countries)

Watched this and the bodice back to back while changing rough pin of hem to precise 5 inch hem on wide sheer overskirt on $AUD15 thrift store find. I'm going to need to run a gather and hand sew, (sewing machine ate some pleats on slightly heavier material underskirts) so im marking with pins. I don't want to cut the hem as there is grow room in the bodice which is thankfully tight enough on my still growing teen, but im worried the weight will pull fine fabric. We'll see.
So far I've been waiting for the whole project and watching together. So this format works for those who like weekly updates and those who like whole projects.

I'm currently working through my UFO pile. I started last year and have slowly been finishing things. I'm almost done now and I'm thinking of starting a capsule wardrobe. I just ordered the two Victorian books that Sarah the Duchess of York wrote. I hear they are very good, and I'm looking forward to reading them both. I had so much not quite right stuff accumulating in my UFO pile that I instituted a self-regulation that before scissors can touch fabric on any new project, I must get something from the UFO pile into useful service, darn some work socks and mend something in the mending pile. In some cases I needed to mull over how to correct the issues, in others I needed to practise necessary skills before taking the garment up again, in some cases I needed to learn more about fiting, but that heap is slowly decreasing instead of the other thng!

I love the gown, the color and the dotted fabric. It looks good, and you look good in it! Can't wait to see it finished. Also looking forward to pictures from the ball!
I am currently teaching myself how to hand embroider and use beads by making a needle book. I made a crazy quilt cover with an applique owl on a cream background appliqued on the center front. I'm currently working on decorating it with beads and embroidery stitches. It is a slow process because I am working on it as I have time. I can so easily do nothing else all day just to work on this 😄
My sewing background is quilting, but I want to learn how to make clothes, so I am s-l-o-w-l-y working on a denim walking skirt with a lining. The mock-up is almost done, but again, it is worked on when I have spare time. Hopefully it will be done in time for next winter??? I hope so.
Thanks to you, I now have a white board on my shopping list. 😊

Hello! thank you for yet another lovely video. You are the best of companions to listen to Noelle. That ball gown is going to look really lovely on you, can't wait to see it completed, and on my, the fabric, utterly sumptuous, swoon... At the end of the video you asked what else we like to do, sadly I can't attach a photo, so words will have to suffice; I fell further into costume and pattern cutting interests a little before covid began, and during covid then was sucked into my life-long hobby of bobbin lace making, so I'm busy making the lace for the blouses and not making the blouses at the moment. Eventually it will all come together, with the help of the whiteboard (- just like you) and necessity as I am running low on clothes to wear. Many thanks indeed to you for your channel.

(yes, I even do windows on occasion lol) I'm also a harried and worn-out father of soon-to-be three home-schooled kids (with a fourth sibling as yet to arrive), and attempting to operate a full-time farm and do some sewing in what little spare time I have right now lol I also have designs on making a woodworking shop, a mechanics shop, a blacksmith forge, a tannery and leatherworks, a glassworks, a ceramics shop, a couple greenhouses, an herbalist shop/apothecary studio, a brewery, a distillery, winery (even though I don't drink commercial wines, since they all taste sour to me, and not a good sour, either), summer kitchen, semi-commercial-sized flour mill, a couple larger orchards, a couple berry meadows, a couple nut groves, a spinning mill and carding shed (and maybe a loom if I get REALLY adventurous lol), an apiary or two, maybe an oil press or two if I can find the time and money, a couple larger (or several smaller) flower gardens, maybe a couple fungus beds, and so on and so forth lol nobody ever accused me of thinking small lol
I think it was corsetry that brought me over here originally, but I think it was more the shenanigans that kept me here lol (there's a new slogan for ya: Come for the corsetry, stay for the shenanigans lol) I do intend to make at least one (and several more if successful) for my wife, and I have a couple other friends who are keeping an eye on my corsetry shenanigans in the event I achieve some modicum of success who would be interested in acquiring my skills for their own personal endeavors lol
And now, back to you lol

I recently finished my first Victorian corset and have moved on to the petticoat, where I foolishly decided to try insertion lace for the first time. This has multiplied the time required for the petticoat but looks so pretty. At least I'm doing it by machine and don't have a deadline. Slow and steady progress is still progress!
As for reading, I just finished "Stone Blind" by Nathalie Haynes (a retelling of the Medusa and Perseus myth), and just started "A Day of Fallen Night" by Samantha Shannon.

The gown is such a beautiful color. Looking forward to the choice of decorations. My projects are almost always reno-work on thrifted garments. Current projects are: removing excess adornments from a top with "good bones" (occasionally beads, sequins and paillettes are apparently chosen by committee, in this case obviously a large one 😉), changing fasteners on a dress (someone made a beautiful dress then attached a cheap button to the back) and making a maxi skirt into a mini skirt ('cause I am short).

Ok, I admit it. I'm addicted to skirts. It's a problem, it really is. I think I want to make a dress or something out of a fabric, and some part of my head says, " or a skirt.."
Yesterday, I ran across three yards of purple rose fabric in my stash, and I thought I could make a quick, one seam umbrella skirt, no problems. Then I saw a two yard bit and thought, "Or, I can make this six gore pleated skirt, and make the inside of the pleats in this dark lavender.." Then, I saw another little chunk of fabric, also dark lavender, but with ombre purple thistles on it. And I thought, Heeeeey, I might have enough of the rose to make two similar skirts with different pleat underlays. And then I thought, "yeah, but I still want an umbrella skirt, and I had originally wanted to make a floor length circle out of this....". So, now I'm looking for eight more yards of the purple rose fabric.

I made my mom a double gauze sweater last week, just to see if that works (it does, beautifully) and circumvent the problem that I do not wear sweaters. The fabric estimates were ridiculously off though, so now I have a bunch of double gauze left. I figured, hey, no problem, my sister just had a baby, I'll make him something. Found some baby pants that do not require stretch, got approval from sis for BRIGHT RED BABY PANTS with varying degrees of poof.... And I still have double gauze left as I'm pinning these together while watching this. First world problems are real.
Edit: I remembered someone online mentioning "mini" (30-40cm) muslin squares were a surprisingly good, but relatively unavailable baby thing. (normal size are 70-80cm squares) My leftovers could make two, which should be enough for sis and BIL to test drive them. TO THE SERGER!

I’m still semi struggling though the shirt mock-up I’ve been working on. Also focusing on the basics at the same time so taking more time than I’m used to with sewing projects but, I’m trusting it’ll all be worth it when I end up having a few different cotton and linen shirts for the farm this spring and summer that will look and wear right.
Currently rewatching Batman the animated series and remembering why I’ve had a soft spot for the penguin as I watch a ep of him getting his heartbroken. All while walking around the house like him from a hip injury. The show still holds up really well, the only thing that I found really dated it was a equal opportunity superhero joke in the pilot but, it was still funny lol
I also finished Cabal last month and started another attempt at reading the persuasion, turns out making it my sewing background noise book created the best environment for me to absorb it. I can’t get over Jane Austin calling someone a dickhead 😂 I gained new respect for the classics
