Well you just experienced the greatest vocal moment in recorded history. It’s just beyond words. Everything Eva did was exemplary. I mean ALL of it. But THIS! Just listen. Then listen again. Beyond words. Thank you Eva. Thank you so much. 🎺

I'm a pretty good singer. I've sang for 30 years for bands, churches and what not. I've gotten standing ovations. But I don't think I've ever made anyone cry. Eva makes thousands of people cry every time she sings. What a talent. And what a shame no one no one discovered her until after she died. She is the greatest female voice I've ever heard.

The first time I heard this version by Eva Cassidy, I was in the car with my son. It was played on XM's Watercolors. We sat in stunned silence and hardly breathed. I have been a huge fan of Eva ever since. She doesn't just sing the song ... she channels it into your soul. No tinsel or glitter here ... no lights, dancers or special effects ... just music at its purest. I don't think I have ever listened to her "Autumn Leaves" or "Over The Rainbow" without getting teary eyed, remembering everyone I have lost in life, living and dead, and grieving too over the loss of this extraordinary singer and musician. Her guitar playing compliments her voice perfectly, as though the strings are an extension of her vocal chords. I hope many more discover her ... today's world needs the peace and tranquility her singing brings. Thank you for a great reaction.

Eva came to everyone's attention as a result of a BBC presenter Terry Wogan, who featured her version of 'Over The Rainbow' on his morning radio show on BBC2. The BBC switchboard was jammed with callers wanting to know who this singer was - the rest is history. My own favourite is her interpretation of 'Fields Of Gold' written by Sting - when he heard her version he said he couldn't sing it again - she sang it exactly as he'd envisioned it when he wrote it. Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac) and Sting were two of her biggest fans and supporters.

Eva Cassidy was a pure talent. More than a singer, a instrumentalist, a performer. She was an ARTIST and painted a landscape with her voice which grabs you deeply.
The first song I heard her sing was Autumn Leaves on Sirus radio. Driving alone, it grabbed me, had me in tears and so I pulled over to find what else she recorded. I then watched Somewhere Over the Rainbow and cried some more. It was then that I found out she had died within a year of these recordings. Sometimes the world has an angel for only a short time.

I'm with you... it's hard to hold back the emotions when you hear her beautiful voice, perfect accompaniment with her acoustic guitar, and the tragic story of her being gone way too soon... so young. I am honored and blessed to have received permission from her estate to use her version of "I Know You By Heart" in my upcoming short film (currently in post-production).

She left a whole bunch for us and we are so fortunate. So many leave nothing of value or trouble for others to unwind.
ALL of us would have loved having her around longer, but I found her not too long ago myself and have listened to all I can find. I am glad that she is up there and smiling, watching us "catch on".
    Such a beautiful talent.

  • @Coby-Fajalobi

This is one of the most beautiful songs and very old. Les Feuilles Mortes / Autumn Leaves has been covered a lot. The first to release the song in French was Yves Montand in 1946 and in 1949 the American songwriter Johnny Mercer makes an English versie. I love this song very much sung by Eva Cassidy, Eric Clapton and the Korean singer Woorin Ko who sings it in French.

One of the most remarkable things about all these songs that were recorded in January, 1996, at Blues Alley, is that she had a cold at the time, yet she still had the voice of an angel. It's especially poignant that she died 10 months later, almost to the day. It just plain WRONG that such an all-round talent, so gifted in so many ways, was taken away at such a young age.

something else to understand about Eva ...... She worked full time as an arborist by day and performed in the nightclub on nights on weekends. She turned down a chance at a recording contract because they wanted to pigeon hole her song choices. There is a great documentary. done about her. This performance was only a few months before she was diagnosed and died very quickly

Can we have a shout out for the band. Lenny Williams the pianist was totally unprepared for Eva to turn the break over to him. When she gave him the nod he said he just started tinkling the keys and what came out in my opinion is one of the prettiest and most fitting breaks for this song I've heard.

I loved your heart-felt reaction to this Angel on loan known as Eva.💕 . I watched your first look at Eva and knew you would be back soon. Her ability to touch us all where we live and make us re-live emotions is simply extraordinary. It is also so sad as she left us too early as have many exceptional musicians. Stevie Ray has been gone almost 33 years but I miss him every day. Since music is an universal language understood by any population of humans, it stands to reason that musical expression is also an important part of our spiritual lives. It brings a smile to my face imagining all the great music that is happening right now and how much fun it will be to reconnect again one of these days. 🎶🎶🎶⭐️💫🌟✨. Fields of Gold needs to be next💯🎶

Thank you for your tender reaction to this amazing cover. As one fan on U Tube said about another artist, I will say the same about Eva- she doesn't do covers, she does "betters"❣ I have only known about her for about a month and only have heard 3 songs so far. I was very familiar with and liked those songs previously, but when Eva reinvented them, they became brand new, transformative, and better songs. How blessed we are that her friends recorded a sampling of her work so that the world can enjoy them for all of eternity. I know she is smiling down at how much we all love her very special, pure style of music. Please react to "Fields of Gold" if you haven't already, and when you do, leave your eyelashes in your make up box!!! 🤗

To your quetion at the end: I have a longtime friend who in recent years had taken ill with cancer and was in treatment for a number of years. We met online in 1996 and just hit it off and we've been friends for those 27 years. Last month was her birthday, and on her socials weren't words of fun 'happy birthday' greetings but instead 'I'm so sorry' 'My condolences' and the like. She had passed a few days before Mother's Day.

Her choice of songs also evokes such an emotional response out us all...the one that makes my skin tingle are Bridge over Troubled Waters but the one that makes my eyes well up is "Waly, Waly", a haunting English folk tune that really evokes an emotional response! Eva does two really different versions of Wayfaring Stranger one a lament and one a barnburner!!

Among the best covers of any tune ever.
She was fighting a bit of a cold that night too. Her dynamics were just amazing.

Thanks for the genuine reaction. I remember the first time I sat down to listen to Eva Cassidy Simply Eva album with all acoustic tracks I went through a box of tissues before I got to the end. I have really only listened to Eva these past 7 years. I am hooked on her emotional purity and connection to Source/God/Creator. I feel she sang the songs the way the Angelic realms intended. Pure emotion. Love it.

Eva is my all time favorite female singer, I love her! I showed my sister this song last year and she loved it so much and was sad that Eva had passed away...we lost my sister 2 months ago and I can't lie, I'm sitting here at work with tears in my eyes.

Others have listed some great Eva Cassidy performances but you definitely need to try "Tall Trees in Georgia"
