    I worked at Structure in the mall back in the late 90s early 2000s in college. They were owned by The Limited Corporation who also owned The Limited, Express, Victoria’s Secret, Bath and Body Works, etc. They were the trendier version of Banana Republic and JCrew back then. They then decided to change name to men’s Express but also changed the vibe and customer. Liz Claiborne was popular in the 80s with ladies my mom’s age. I’ve seen several female vintage thrifters pick up fun 80s pieces. Wondered if mens Claiborne was also in the same time frame.

    Structure use to be a separate store in the mall for men in the late 1990s and early 2000s. It had faux columns out front and looked like a Roman building at the entryway. It was owned by Express (at that time Express for Women / Limited) and the branding and back stock was sold to Sears and then later K-Mart after Express decided to sell both women’s and men’s clothes under the same Express branding. Most Express stores in malls were at one time Structure stores. It was once a very popular pricey men’s brand but no more. A lot of us that grew up during that time have good memories of Structure and mall brands but they were all done end by other cheaper newer disposable fashion brands that came about. Stores either closed or were forced to lower quality to compete.

    Faded glory was a kinda higher end denim brand that only made jeans back in the 70’s and 80’s, I remember in the 90’s when 90210 was a big show there were ads for it at the mall with luke Perry . Around here it was sold at places like dillards and goodys dept stores then for some reason it became a Walmart brand. I’d imagine the original American made denim jeans from their early years would be highly sought after by the vintage folk

    Couldn't agree more. I inherited a cashmere short sleeve shirt that belonged to my grandfather when I was 17 and absolutely have a weakness for anything I find that is 100% cashmere. BUT, I'd much rather find Kuiu shorts or Outlier pants as a sound purchasing decision. Also, I thought your Whatnot auction was a hoot. Structure's heyday as a mall brand was the 90s. I'm sure vintage Structure, typified by big color blocking, might be of the moment. A lot of these brands are confusing for a GenXer like me because they were once nice high-end brands that have "sold out" to assness over the years. Claiborne and Kenneth Cole were nice brands in the 90s, at least to my recollection, and Mossimo was very hip.

    • @dfuller81
      @dfuller81 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @aikanae1

      A lot of those brands started out as "hot" and have fallen. Even back in the 70's my mom would jump hurdles to get a Van Hussen work shirt for my dad (ads claimed no iron). Claiborne was the first to use fit models for each size v adding an inch on the std guides. It's sad to see them fall. Faded Glory was a Kmart brand. Their vintage ads are hilarious.

      Nautica and Tommy Hilfiger use to be much higher quality in the 1990’s / early 2000’s as well but the quality was killed off by disposable fashion brands; so they lowered standards to compete. Nautica even had a short lived designer brand known as Nautica Black or Nautica Black Sail that made beautiful high end menswear. Check out the old runway shows on TH-cam-great stuff. The clothes these days under these same brands are trash and basically tissue paper.

    It's funny, as someone that sells mainly on Depop, Faded Glory, Mossimo, INC are all brands I buy and sell a ton of. Vintage Faded Glory for women flies out of my store.

    Ass brands, assuming they're not covered with diarrhea stains (as you frequently like to point out), can sometimes do ok when you pick them up on sale for $1 or under. Otherwise, I find it's better to pick up fewer but higher-quality items just because they'll flip much quicker and for higher margins.

    I had an Alfani leather jacket and it took 4Eva to sell... lol I have sold Faded Glory ripped plus jeans and shorts and couple other items randomly - sometimes ppl don't care about brand but not all the time, so. yeah. Sold some Croft & Barrow leather loafers and if it's a nice enough or interesting item I'll go ahead and pick it up for 25 cents. I still sell George fitted stretch collared womens button down shirts in plus size and dress pants every once and a while. Kenneth Cole Reaction is poo. If the Claiborne is nice enough piece it will eventually sell. I love Perry Ellis suits. If the American Rag is nice enough I'll pick it up A big sweater or coat or hoodie for $1. I like selling Charter Club pima cotton & cashmere.

      @@KevinDurantisnot That's what I'm thinkin too; but the craziest most unlikely things are selling along with the good stuff. I just play the long game as most of it I acquired free and on PM they don't "Fee you to death" if it sells it sells whenever, if not, it will sell some day. lol p.s. I'm not in CA or an area where they are throwing high brands into the thrift.

    Add Nautica and Tommy Hilfiger to these brands. It just FEELS like they should have such a better demand than they actually do. I always have to talk myself out of picking them up. Maybe they're just nostalgic pieces for me.

      I go randomly to every thrift I can find and even when I’m on vacation I go thrifting. I’m in Florida and it’s rough to find jackets or winter items, you gotta dig…little hint though, I know for my local goodwills employees can’t buy an item til it’s been on the floor for 3 days so they tend to hide items. Look in the kids section or you’ll find men’s nice shirts mixed in with women’s and vise versa. Little tidbit I learned from the employees….pays to be super nice.
