Unemployment needs to hit 15%
I am getting fraud alerts on all my cards, even when ordering a $15 lunch at work - someplace that I have used my card often and have no continuous balances.

our unemployment which is a leading indicator, especially for recession that’s the major reason why it was designed has been pretty stable. Fed is going to sit tight. They have been into their tightening campaign for less than two years, and in my opinion, things are calling off the labor market is strong, and the US dollar on the global front is very strong. A real estate market is also strong. Commercial office is like a slow rolling recession that will slowly figure itself out because large banks have little exposure for the most part. I believe what Liz and Saunders describes that we have been in a recession in different sectors and because we have a bifurcated economy, the upper income earners are driving economy that is mostly services driven to continued growth… well other countries are trying to figure out the Dollar and how to stay away from it. They are stockpiling gold because they unloaded it during Covid and that has never worked. Historically US is a very good place. We just have a lot on our plate with two wars and coming out of a global pandemic.
❤
@david: can you show data on Americans buring their cars?
Unemployment rate is meaningless as long as they continue to treat a part time job the same as a full time job.
Smart ones parse the data and read between the lines, and now unemployment is much worse.
You didn't mention reserved labor rate
I was refused part-time work in my industry
I'm not going to drive 30 Mi to work for $14 an hour
And don't forget GDP including government spending. Smoke and mirrors

The whole point of wealth for me is freedom. My magic number in my mind is 5 million needed at 65 to not worry about anything. Am i better off investing a good portion of my income into stocks or saving my earnings to achieve this goal?
Varied sources of income is wise and especially living within your means. My net worth is $2M and I can pay my bills with no stress, but I don't live like I have that. I have no complaints.
Exactly, a good number of people discredit the effectiveness of financial advisor, but over the past 10years, I’ve had a financial advisor consistently restructure and diversify my portfolio/expenses and I’ve made over $3million in gains… might not be a lot but i'm financially secure and that's fine by me
Being heavily liquid, I'd rather not reinvent the wheel. Since this strategy works for you, how can I contact your advisor?
Her name is “Vivian Carol Gioia” can't divulge much. Most likely, the internet should have her basic info, you can research if you like
I just Googled her name and her website came up right away. It looks interesting so far. I'm going to send a mail to her and let you know how it goes. Thanks for sharing truly!
Our economy struggling with uncertainties, housing issues, foreclosures, global fluctuations, and pandemic aftermath, causing instability. Rising inflation, sluggish growth, and trade disruptions need urgent attention from all sectors to restore stability and stimulate growth.
With the US dollar losing value to inflation and other currencies gaining traction, uncertainty looms. Yet, many still trust in the Dollar's perceived safety. Worried about my $420,000 retirement savings losing value, I seek alternative security for my money.
With my demanding job, I lack time for investment analysis. For seven years, a fiduciary has managed my portfolio, adapting to market conditions, enabling successful navigation and informed decisions. Consider a similar approach.
this is definitely considerable! think you could suggest any professional/advisors i can get on the phone with? i'm in dire need of proper portfolio allocation

you dont need to make calculations to see if we are in a recession, you just feel it
True. All you have to do is go to the supermarket to know we are screwed. A small bag of chips, that normally would have cost 99 cents, now costs $3. A gallon of water used to cost 99 cents. Now it's closer to $2. A pound of ground beef used to cost $4. Now it costs $7. Corporations have gotten greedy. They just used covid as an excuse to raise prices on everything.
$5 a gallon gas, auto repair labor is $150 -$200 per hour. Food prices INSANE.

They're clearly just patching the ship until a certain day in November.
For most people who have suffered 30% cost increases with much lower wage increases often in several insecure part time jobs we have been in the worst recession in decades
We're already IN a recession. Just that the government keeps changing the definition and the parameters for what constitutes a recession.
Just in my department, at my facility, 85 people are rumored to be laid off soon. UPS. Nationwide who knows how many???

I live in Canada and I can see the writings on the wall. I'm on the road everyday and I've never seen so many new cars on the road waiting for their license plates.
People cant afford new homes due to high interest rates, high home prices, and high cost of necessicities. So they splurge in meaningless stuff trying to fill that void.
Truth is, we're witnessing a sinking Titanic, and its getting slowly deeper then a recession. We call this "controled demolution". All by design to give birth to the Bretton Woods 3.0 monetary system. Thats not a conspiracy anymore. Those rulers are trully evil and thats why God will wipe this world once and for all.
God bless all of you and stay strong till the very end🙏🏼
While buying a car is probably a bit much for "filling the void" the concept is definitely true.
There are definitely multiple classes/categories of purchases, and a lot of people will splurge on the highest class they can reach.
With homeownership looking impossible for many people they blow their money on the stuff that's within reach

My company has undergone their 2nd rounds of layoffs, each morning listening to news radio constant reporting of layoffs - not just tech, post secondary, logistics, etc. The end of fiscal March 2023 - with new budgets being created in the next month, expect more cuts. The tech industry is taking a huge hit. Not only because the economy is slowing down but because of outsourcing.

Agree 100%! I was facing a career change a little over a year ago. I considered law enforcement and trucking but I am so glad I moved back to my home state and to my original job. There is a freight recession and I have friends who are barely getting one day of work per week. It’s either that or you work for free. They are selling their trucks and going to work for established companies many of whom aren’t hiring. It’s actually pretty bad out there in terms of good paying jobs. My job is very secure, praise God, and I love what I do. I just wish it was closer to home so I didn’t have to commute as far. That being said, I feel very blessed to have a job with which I can provide for my family.

I work at a dealership this year they gave 2 dollars raise to every employee at the same time the raised what they charge per hour....how far did we go? Nowhere...actually they lost more customers..simply pathetic....also it is thanks to dealerships who marked up the prices on the cars, now people pay higher insurance costs because cars become more expensive and manufacturers keep making cars more complex filled with junk that nobody needs...
I don't feel any sympathy for car dealers. They got greedy and took advantage of Covid to charge ridiculous mark ups. I hope they all go out of business
I don't know that I've ever heard anyone more eloquently and substantively explain and defend their position.
I ordered a dishwasher. I tried to save money by choosing a super cheap one of $300. But delivery/installation/haul away added up close to $300. When did these fees go up this much 😱😱😱?! The replacement of a cheap dishwasher ended up costing me $$650😢
Washing dishes by hand cost ZERO dollars .. so actually you spent $650 because of pure laziness. . Sorry I don't feel sorry for you
You get what you pay for. Going cheap can cost more in the long run
Blackrock is buying up all the delivery and home services and construction companies in addition to houses. They are doing this so you will give up and sell so you can rent instead. Owning a home is engineered to be as expensive as possible. AC units now cost 20k due to them owning all the installation service companies
Installing appliances has always been expensive. Better to just to pay a neighbor to do it for you
In my entire 30 year IT career, I've never been so anxious about the future of my employment. Now that I'm in my 50's, I truly fear being laid off because I know how difficult it will be for me to find another 6-figure IT job at my age. In my 20's and 30's I never really worried.

she makes easy to understand. good interview. Interesting how construction is the last to fall this time. I think that's where in lies the problem. Previously when the Fed raised rates, it mainly affected construction jobs and led into manufacturing. Today with the shortage of homes, construction has not seen layoffs like we should have but other manufacturing industries have. Part of the reason the debt it so high is construction saw this coming and booked a ton of jobs 2 and 3 years out so they wouldn't be in the position of previous recessions.
