    My fiancee is high functioning autistic, we didnt find out until after we were engaged and I didn't give a damn about the diagnosis when it came to my choice, I stuck with it. Shes the love of my life and we're planning to get married by the end of next year, wouldn't trade my baby for the universe!

    Not married to one, but the son of one. I'm 38 and my dad has been totally blind since before I was born. Despite this, he maintains a job, raised 3 children in a Christian household, can cook, and is the wisest man I know due to all the reading he does. Now he is playing an active role in the lives of his grandchildren.

    I am the disabled spouse. I have several chronic health conditions including arthritis and endometriosis. When I was first diagnosed, my husband and I were still dating and I was at the lowest point in my physical health. I often used a cane to walk, I spent most of my time in bed, and I had to ask for help with very simple things like hauling in the groceries or carrying a laundry basket. This was a very difficult time for both of us because I lost a lot of my independence and well being and he was trying to help me while also going to school and working. We had no expectation that my illnesses would get any better but he still stuck with me and never made me feel like a lesser human being. We were very honest with each other about how difficult the situation was. Now, a year and a half later, we’re married, I’m feeling better overall, and I’ve returned to work. We both know that my health could plummet at any moment but we love each other very much and I think we’re going to be okay.

      You are very blessed and very glad you found each other💛 true heart of gold. I had a partner once but they left me ultimately because of it and it really messed my outlook up

  • @amylee3531

    I have always had chronic health. Ive done the marriage. Done the long term relationships. Even though I'm VERY honest and up front about my health everyone always says "I dont care. Its not important to me." Yeah bullshit. Then they realize my life is not what they want to be dealing with and they admitted to finding other reasons not to be with me.
    I've chosen to be celebate and single now around 7 years I think. It sucks I dont have a partner to help sometimes but its better for me.

    Im a leg amputee and honestly im afraid of even trying to be with anyone anymore. I dont want to fear about relying on someone when i get older because i feel it woupdnt be fair to be a burden, and even tho im pretty high functioning now, theres still things i cant do on my own and know these thinga will just become more burdomsom with age. Once life gets too hard ill take myself out without having to worry about anyone missing me.

    Why do people with incredibly severe mental or physical handicaps have kids? That just makes handling everything 100x harder, and in some cases - specifically with the women - make the disability worse due to the stress the pregnancy places on the body.

    • @Talkin-fr0g
      @Talkin-fr0g 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Because they choose to? They don't need a reason- their human, who may want kids, they choose whether or not to have a kid and that's that.

    You have to be an extremely strong person and have love with no boundaries or conditions to be in a relationship and or married to someone with a disability. Take it from my own advice I am the disabled one and my ex walked out on me because me being blind was just too much for him

    • @LDuke-pc7kq
      @LDuke-pc7kq 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same, sadly a lot do but it's their lack of love and character not our lack of Loveability. There are many out there both good and bad I guess it comes down to be lucky to find someone

    I'm going to cry. For 20 years from age 13 to 33 I thought my mild autism was the king of all dealbreakers (since 13 when the most popular/attractive girls in school would bully me for said autism and I stutter when nervous) so I believed I wouldn't be good enough for any woman but at 33 I realized every woman's different and wouldn't dismiss when a woman would flirt with me as opposed to them being friendly. I consider myself a good person as I: love to take care of my dad who has mobility issues, work full time at a very demanding job, loyal to all of my friends, love to help people in need and love and dote on my cat as if he were my child but I focus too much on the bad ie: Autism, stutter, lower income job (grocery store stockboy), hard to deal with stress and anger (verbal but never physical). No one is perfect and wished I listened to my dad when he told me that but I (still) can't mentally comprehend a woman loving me for who I am.

  • @StrawberrySparklcat

    I hate being disabled. I wish i was never born. You get so guilty and sad seeing the annoyance and regret in your significant other's face. But you have to understand because they are human and they get tired too. Just as a person with disability, i feel i shouldn't exist. It would all around be better. And i don't feel sorry for myself,i am just a biological liability and have no place in the large scheme of things.

    • @LDuke-pc7kq
      @LDuke-pc7kq 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Believe it or not, it can always be worse, and sometimes that's what we need to see first to then step into gratitude for what we still have and can still enjoy in the present. Don't think far in the future, try to enjoy the Now and think every day a few things you are grateful for and it may help lift your mood, but I do understand

    • @kadyh
      @kadyh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve had the very same emotions. You have to just accept the fact that you are disabled. I’ve felt very modivated by these negative emotions to better myself and become more independent. The great thing is that we live in a time where everything isn’t about survival. You’d just be killed back then. Good luck and cheers!

    • @amylee3531
      @amylee3531 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I hope no one ever attacks you for being honest. I have a slew of medical shit problems and its annoying. Everyone always says its fine and then it isnt. They feel guilty for saying its my health because people "shouldnt". If more people were honest and open about this stuff then it would be a bit easier on disabled or chronically sick people. We have enough bullshit in our lives and shouldn't have relationship lies on top. Good on you!
