I grew up in North Dakota listening to HeadPins , everybody had the cassettes and I still have the original album " Turn it Loud" Live in Florida now and I've made sure you have fans down here lol
I didn't know I felt like this until I played the song.
It's obvious what a fun gig this was for all involved. The song is fun to play, it has such great hooks, piano echo back, good tandem lead breaks, and playing with Darby who seems to be having a blast getting to sing her song again. Simplicity done well. Great job.
Darby looks good for 60 years old and she still nails it! This song was a Canadian hit in 1982. If it would have caught on in the US and elsewhere, it would have easily have been number 1 on at least the BillBoard rock charts.
A major crush in the 80's .....58 now and she can still hammer the performance ..................Darby and Taylor ..... what a smash performance .... bloody timeless ...
That absolutely blew my mind...arguably the greatest female vocalist to ever emerge from Canada...I adore her rasp...something you are born with...Darby has a unique gift and a talent rarely matched... Cheers from the Thrash metal band WRECK-DEFY !!
OMG I never knew who sang, who the band was, or even that they are Canadian. But my 80's were partially spent bombing along rural Nova Scotia morning and afternoons to and from small rural country schools; THIS VOICE was the BEST part of all of that! Our bus was decked out with two speakers at the very back on either side of the Emergency Exit Door; controlling the tape deck was our very tolerant bus driver, Martin. Volume was not legislated in those years, let's just say... "FLIP the tape! Flip the TAPE!!" was heard each time the music ran out. Oh, those days! I promise you, that bus BOUNCED to this music along rocky, dusty dirt roads in summertime, and shot along like a curling rock in ice-covered wintertimes, confounding the grazing farm animals as we winded our way along, windows down as weather permitted. This was cheap therapy to get us awake and "there," and get over the matters of the school day as we headed back home. I owe my mental health and the origins of my female strength to this great lady of Canadian Rock and Roll. And like Ann of Heart, Darby Mills has GOT IT, STILL has it, and I thank God for her obvious vocal gifts. I feel so sorry for the kids today; they never grew up hearing REAL talent, REAL musical skills, but just a lot of auto tune and computer-processed faker-y backed by big marketing+management.🤩🚌
I had the pleasure of seeing the Headpins play in a hotel lounge in Butte Montana one night. Too loud MacLeod was the guitarist at the time (just a couple years before he passed). Wow, what a show! The band was tight! This lounge had floor to ceiling windows and it was so loud, they were pulsing like the Headpins were trying to blow them out lol. RIP Brian.
Born on 1959 in Vernon, British Columbia, Mills began singing back-up vocals for Canadian bands in the late 1970s, most notably the British Columbia-based band Steelback. After signing on with the Headpins in 1981, the group began a three-album run at the top of the Canadian charts. Their debut album "Turn It Loud", quickly went platinum and topped the charts for six weeks. It spawned the hit single "Don't It Make Ya Feel". Their follow-up, "Line of Fire", produced the hits "Celebration" and "Just One More Time". The Headpins toured Europe and North America while opening for bands such as KISS, Whitesnake, ZZ Top and Aerosmith, among others. Mills released her debut solo LP, Never Look Back, backed by the Unsung Heroes. She returned to re-form the Headpins with Bernie Aubin and Ab Bryant a year or so later, without guitarist Brian MacLeod. In 2005, Mills was nominated for a star on Canada's Walk of Fame.
Absolutely amazing, I don’t know anyone on this planet in the last 30 years in the music industry that can sing like this gal. Thank you Darby for great tunes. Fellow Canadian ❤️
I think there is a thing that happens musically that causes that effect on me. When the piano drops a tone and the root keeps droning. Instant effect. I'll go back and find it and post the time stamp. I was tingling before hand but I think it was anticipation. It happens at 22 seconds in. 0:18
I have worshiped Darby and the Headpins for longer than any of care to remember. I have a '67 Plymouth Barracuda. Basically the only CD that ever gets played in that car is Headpins. I never get tired of it! Come on summer. Kudos to all the musicians in this video, too.
Fantastic! I have lived in Chilliwack BC for 22 years. Yes Chilliwack is a real city not just a band. About 85, 00 of us live here. Love the Headpins! Darby you still got it!
The band is super tight and talented, Darby is in top form, but I have to say, whoever got that fatttttt crunchy tone out of the guitars deserves a fucking MEDAL of honor. I can listen to this 10 times in a row. Bravo folks.
@Lunatic Fringe crazy cool. I know it's a long shot, had a friend named John Harley moved out that way, he sang for smash LA, I know he played around Vancouver for a while, but I don't know what ever happened to him. If you are in the biz, you might have come across him
@Lunatic Fringe hey man, that's awesome. He was actually one of my big brothers best friends. I am glad he is still kickin'. If you happen to see him, tell him John(Rick) DeRubeis and his brother say hello. He was/is a great guy. They had a lot of fun
Have loved ❤ you Darby ❤️ forever ❤ Queen of scream! My husband often mentions you and your songs 🎵...puts your record on a lot ...hmmmmm ...me thinks he has a 40 year crush going on ❤ Thank you Headpins Thank you doll....Darby Mills ❤ Canada 🇨🇦 LOVES YOU AND THE BAND ❤ Thank you so much ❤

Still such a Voice, so recognizable Derby Mills could literally sing the phonebook and you know it was her such an amazing voice then and now you go Derby
Damn Darby!! You sound amazing! I saw you on tour in Sudbury Ontario about 30 years ago. It was epic then - you're my female rock vocals idol - and you're still epic now. Love you! ❤
Absolutely incredible! She does this so effortlessly while other seasoned singers would be blowing their vocal chords out!!!😂 I am in awe of her talent.
Darby is the voice of the Headpins in my humble opinion, I loved the Headpins, listened to them everyday back when Turn it Loud came out, seen them in concert , great memories, I'd love to see them unite with her for a Canadian tour, it would be a huge success Ya what a voice
She's still got it! Her voice is like a stunt pilot, she reaches for that note and just when you think she's gonna crash...she pulls right out of it!! Amazing!
Ok this is crazy good work from everyone involved. Great live off the floor capture for sure. band is killing it as is Darby. Hats of to the mixer! WOW
What a voice! Why is nobody else watching this in total awe of this woman's vocal ability! I miss the 70s and 80s. Cheers

Darby Mills...Queen of Scream !
I didn't know I felt like this until I played the song.

Her voice is unique. One of the best female Rock vocalists.
Darby should be a household name. Talk about criminally underrated.
Darby Mills and Lee Aaron .... both under rated. What a tune , sensational.👍🤘
Holly Woods and Carole Pope too.
Darby is better than Lee lol
wow, her voice has not change, she still has it,
Horribly underrated raw rock star. Her vocals are stratospheric!
That woman still fucking has it. God I would so pay to see her!! Darby Mills is one of the most underrated female Rock vocalists ever!!
Darby looks good for 60 years old and she still nails it! This song was a Canadian hit in 1982. If it would have caught on in the US and elsewhere, it would have easily have been number 1 on at least the BillBoard rock charts.
Can't believe she can still belt it out like that. Wow.
out of the park Darby...well done...
The riff to me is just incredibly amazing within itself, AND THEN THE LADY SPEAKS, and the jaw drops, its sooooo good
I introduced my little niece to this song and she loved it immediately. Now, she sings it whenever I bring a box of donuts for dessert! 😆
One of the greatest canadian rock tunes of all time!
absolutely!

WRECK-DEFY !!
Best female rock vocalist to ever emerge in the world imo.
That distortion is not something you are born with, she has worked hard at her craft to be able to create “safe” distortion.
Jaw... Dropped ...
The fact her voice is so well taken care of and still in tact to do this, is absolutely AMAZING.
What a voice. 40 years later. We still like Darby.
two of the best female voices in rock ... Darby Mills and Allanha Miles ...
In all the years since the Headpins, this lady has not lost it!
You bet - saw the Headpins at a college pub in the early 80's. Her voice is still awesome!
Dang; she hasn't lost a beat. Such a great voice...
Still the ruling "Queen of Scream"!! Keep rockin' Darby!!

WOW! Darby still has that powerful and distinctive voice of hers! :)

when darby unleashes her pipes, you know exactly who it is ....awesome 80s...
She was the band!
Brian "Too Loud" McLeod was the music... Darby was the voice. The 2 of them equally made the band....
... and that bass player was no slouch either..!!! He can lay down a MEAN boogie...
Such a class act. That was fun
Watched this for the first time just now ... WOW that girl has pipes! I had the pleasure of meeting her at a Halifax show ... VERY humble and classy.
