I remember hearing Randy for the first time, I immediately thought he smoked EVH on the six string. Have never changed my mind since. I love EVH and how he evolved 70s classic rock into a turbocharged rock genre. But Randy just has this something that even EVH doesn’t have.
The more live randy you listen to the more you can hear how great he was , using the same structure of a solo but playing it completely different for the same solo . Amazing , one of the things I love most in the world is listening to the master at work . !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This version of children of the grave along with the Taunton Odeon and Chelmsford and Chicago have the best version of children of the grave solos o yea and the version from Kalamazoo
This is the fifth live version of Randy playing this tonight I've listed to. They all make the solo that ended up on the tribute album sound like it was pieced together. I mean I could be wrong, but there are so many things in the tribute album version that I have not heard on any of these other versions I've listed to. They all just sound like Randy was playing off the cuff every night.
I know that Tribute is the mix of two nights which were recorded. Knowing that Rhoads was such a stickler for his solos sounding well on recordings, I would imagine that he'd planned a more tightly structured solo for those nights. That said, his solo on Tribute's paranoid sounds completely improvised, and I really have no idea what his decisions were.
Actually his solo on Paranoid is very much a composed solo. You can hear him playing same solo on many live recordings on youtube. Somehow his taps on on bended notes arent very spot on many times
There is another Children of the Grave live performance with the same thumbnail as this video, but I can't find it. The video had the best solo Randy did for te song imo. Where is it?!
+Wall Alfyan yea but that video with the thumbnail of randy with the polka dot flying v seems to have dissapeared from youtube haha i was searching for that video just like you i remembered have seeing that some years ago. excuse me if my english is not very well hope you can understand what i write somehow haha
I was at this show. They MELTED the place! During the show, I remember thinking "Eddie Van WHO?". LOL

Randy taught his students how to play Eddies stuff but could Eddie play Randy's stuff I don't think so. Case closed
The guitar fills in Ironman are so epic ,then children of the grave has numerous excellent fills , but the solo is what steals the show .
