My friend had a '58 like this except his hood was stock. It had a 428 w/3duces,(FE) built C6,457 posi & 9or10" cheaters. Interior only had 2 bucket seats,it was his daily driver. This was early '70's. It ran high 11's in the quarter. Later on he built a 454(FE) & put it in,damn that thing was fast! Then he swapped the drivetrain into a '65 fastback mustang,WICKED!!!♡♡
do you guys know why that's one bad ass car because it has one of the greatest Motors ever built by Ford Motor Company the 427 no f****** bodybeat no 455 No Junk 396 none of them the 427 is truly a work of art

This 58 was totaled last year when it flipped & rolled during a race. I sure hope it gets rebuilt, or at least the engine put in another Ford. This was one of my favorite FE’s to watch run.

yeah, there are tons of them in top fuel & prostock. don't forget the rule made for ford last year in prostock where they don't have to use their on mfgs engine any longer. i don't recall many fords qualifying in recent years until that rule was implemented.

Never was a Ford guy, but I like the 58 much more than the 57. I liked most of the 58 stuff. Ron Howard's 58 Chevy in American Graffiti, the BOP stuff, Cadillac for sure.
It's been a while since I've seen the car, but if I recall correctly it was a Jim Kuntz 527 wedge FE on race fuel and carburetors. No nitrous or forced induction. The car has since been destroyed in an accident, but Randy Spohn was not injured. I filmed that wreck but never posted it. It didn't seem right to display such a sad demise.
I just found 5 squarebirds in a junk yard. I went in looking for Jeep parts. I got exited because at least one of them should have a 390. As I walk out this popped in my suggested. The heavens have spoken. I need a 390. For what? I'm. Maybe my 57. 😁
In 1986 I had a clean stock '66 T-bird Town Landau; swing away steering, stock front discs, leather, 4 buckets, and a 428 c.i. that didn't stop smoking those fat, sticky radials until you let off the gas. And it must have weighed a metric shitload.

They're not big...They got a lot bigger later. Prolly 3300lbs. This car seems to be half fiberglass as well.

If it's windy with a large body car the coefficient of drag goes up and MPH down. Either one would cause it. Both really drop it
