Thank you for your guides to servers and tutorials. I'm returning to DCS after a few years absent. Some servers have really upped their game - however a bit more complex than the old days. These really help to get started on them. I will say the absence of D9 and inclusion of K4 seems a bit silly to me. With such a narrow selection of warbirds in DCS - all generally representative of late war - bias might be assumed. If you desire historical “fine tuning” to narrow windows in time - the plane set isn’t expansive enough yet. Not Il2
Project Overloard is my favorite server lately. I hope this brings some more players. Warbirds in dcs are a niche segment of a niche game. I know they aren't for everyone. I do think if more people see videos, more will give it a try. Itl be good for server population.
It’s a good server and well popular, but just like the time period that the mission is set in, it’s not particularly much fun to fly on the German side. I totally get and understand the attempt at historical accuracy, however this accuracy really detracts from fun game play, if like me you always as a moral thing, always join the side with the fewest players. So you’re always massively outnumbered on red, and I know that the Dora wasn’t available then and MW50 was hard to get hold of in reality, but for the sake of quality of life, allowing unlimited MW50 and the Dora would draw more people to the red faction
Yeah, I do agree. More even flight times would also help I feel. Blue can take off, hit their targets and land while red are still flying over from Paris. I've had a lot of fun with Wolfpack but that's rarely active at times I'm awake
Hi and many thanks for the video, very helpful. Pretty new to the 4YA server and to DCS multiplayer in general. I mostly fly the Mustang, but I can't get the rearming panel to work properly. It works ok for fuel, but if I wanna load rockets, it says 'rearming complete' but I don't have any rockets loaded. Plus the fact that you don't have external view to visually check, I found myself several times trying to launch non existing rockets on trucks. Any hint on what I'm doing wrong ? Thanks in advance 👍
Might well be that rockets are not available on that airfield you're trying to take off from. Keep an eye on anything being listed as 'unavailable'. The server has a real focus on historic accuracy so if there weren't rockets available at that airfield on that date in 1944, then they're not available on the server. Unfortunately the only way I know to check for munitions is to have a wingman check for you. German aircraft do have a light for bombs but I don't know of any aircraft that have a rocket indicator
I have the thunderbolt and the dora. It's quite annoying to take our the Dora. I feel bullied. Bf 109 k4 was even introduced after the dora and was built in even lesser numbers. 😡
I got into DCS because of the WWII warbirds. Alas, the 4YA implementation is as un-fun as flying as you can get. Exactly, as you mention, the asymmetry is such that, if you fly axis, you are much further away… instead of a 5 minute jump from your airfield you need to fly 15 or 20 minutes just to get into action, with no MW50 on the 109, which makes it un matched against the Allied airframes. So, flying Axis is frustrating, to say the least. “So, fly Ally!º, yeah, but since it’s so uneven, and no one wants to fly Axis, then you have very little to do. So, in this case, the decision to favor Historic Authenticity is, there’s no other adjective for it, idiotic (well, moronic would fit also). It’s clear that in real life the Axis lost, they were outnumbered, outmaneuvered, outspeced. All true. That makes for a great history lesson. It does not make for an interesting setup for a competitive match. If you know you ARE going to lose, no matter what, playing the game is half as fun. Imagine a FIFA game based on historic results, where the match you play, no matter what, will have the historic winner winning. Do you think the game would sell a lot of copies? And I guess I am not alone with this feeling, because, from having around 30 to 50 online players, you now usually see 2 or 3 in the 4YA server. And since it’s the most “recognized” server around, the entire WWII scenario hast all but disappeared from the DCS radar. It’s a pity. A balanced game, with equally capable sides, as close as historic as possible but keeping that balance, would have been a much better approach, and would see dozens of players every day. I have tried to the death to reason with them, to no avail. It’s a shame.
I know exactly what you mean, and that is why I prefer to fly on Wolf Pack. Much shorter flight times. Balanced and competitive. Only issue for me is that it's generally less populated than Project Overlord
WRONG! ...... SRS is REQUIRED!! .... I repeat REQUIRED .....to use on Project Overlord. If you want to live you better use it ...or you WILL be shot down as an enemy for not answering your radio.......by me .............. and others. ... And no one will feel sorry for you! You WILL get SRS and you WILL declare your intentions when taking off and before landings. SRS is REQUIRED ... it says so on the server rules. .. Use it!
To quote rule page that I based this on "Use of either SRS or in-game text chat is mandatory." The 'or' highly indicates to me that use of ingame text chat alone is acceptable. As I said, SRS is preferable. And with a video trying to bring new people into the server/era, being welcoming and inclusive is the way I decided to go.
@@Dr_Jebus Sry bub but we want quality players who are communicating with us on SRS - not a whole slew of players who are flying around in their own world only using Discord etc and therefore ram into us in head-on collisions on the runways. If you want to joke around on Discord - do it - but you better be on SRS too. And you know well that rarely is anyone reading the chat screen and it wouldn't help at all during a dogfight. People NOT using SRS is a source of contention in game.
@@Bronco-1776 sry bub, I'm just literally going from the rules listed in the FAQ on the official discord. If you have a problem with the wording of the official rules, I'm not the one to complain to
@@Bronco-1776 Well, if this is how the PO community acts, I can understand why people would be hesitant to use SRS. You sound like a bunch of bleeding assholes. Gatekeeping is a source of contention everywhere. Also, if you are running into people on the runway, you need to stop short before entering an active runway and use your fucking eyeballs instead of relying on everyone to communicate everything accurately.
Hi guys, if I may contribute to the debate adding why own experience : I totally get that SRS is crucial to use. But for us non native English speakers, it's sometimes very hard to understand what's going on on the radio, who's talking to who, plus the ambiant noises and so on. And I consider myself above average for a french guy 😂. I do all the airfield communication on channel A, but I would be very upset to get shot at because I didn't pick that one message directed to me among all the stuff that's going on on the frequency (plus I think visual ID is kinda the base rule to open fire, IRL you could very well have had a radio malfunction or something). Add the fact that new players don't necessarily know all the mechanics of the game, the wording, the locations on the map, all of this can be quite intimidating and if we want the community to grow, well I'd say to go easy on the requirements written in capitals ✌️

thank you so much for this guide......used to ECW guide to get into that server and just wanted to start playing project overlord perfect timing.
Thankyou for this, i recently got into dcs and decided to buy my first warbird. This server has been great to test my metal and has been loads of fun.
I love this server. Fyling there almost every day, mostly on german side.

Agreed. I'd love to see the population increasing. WW2 dcs is so fun but as you said, niche of a niche
How many people in the server on average?
@PoleVault peak times in the afternoon to evening around 50. Other than that could be 15 or so. At night in the usa usually 0.
@@Dr_Jebus It's really increased lately. Especially on Fri, Sat, Sun . Usually around 50 people then. I've seen up to 75.
Prepare for the usual newby experience:
Take Off
Roam around
Find nobody
Die suddenly and unexpected
XD
Haha, yeah. It is a lot better with a wingman. At leas that way when one dies unexpectedly, the other gets a warning XD
wow 3:45 very nice use of the Jug's durability lol
Rofl, yeah. That guy reaaaally wanted the kill

Thank you!
For the P-47 i am missing an Rocket-Tutorial included to the module... Maybe you can do one? :)
Sure! I'll add a P47 rockets video to my to-do list!
Video is now live th-cam.com/video/9o5fdd_mvgc/w-d-xo.html

Yeah, getting into dcs ww2 is pricey
i checked the server, requires normandy map, ww2 asset pack and ww2 module. oh my wallet. :D

Please close the cowling flaps of the P-47 while in combat 🤣
Yeah, I need to remember that. I'm good at doing it in IL2, but in DCS I forget everything
And mw50 for every german plane because ego stats > history 😆
Pretty sure mw50 is heavily limited but I may be mistaken
