Sunnyside Mall in Bedford, Nova Scotia. This was a promo ad encouraging potential vendors to set up shop in the "New" Sunnyside Mall back in 1991. Fun to look back on now. The days before Pete's Frootique. Both Zellers and Canadian Tire have long pulled out of Sunnyside, though Royal Bank is still near by. "The shops at Sunnyside Mall"

I'm really amazed that Sunnyside is only in its early thirties. I first visited it in late 2019 and it gave me a lot of comfort and familiarity, coming from someone who grew up visiting Mayflower Mall.
The aesthetics at Sunnyside are still gorgeous and is a nostalgic call back that isn't inherently gaudy. Too bad they're lacking in solid tenants throughout. I find even when you do have a mall that is chock full now, that the stores are often much too similar to each other

To a degree. If you find images of this area that predate this time period, you'll see familiar things. The mall became a mall when existing structures were sorr of cobbled together and joined by the central corridor. Parts of it were stand alone buildings originally, for example, the Pete's end was a Zellers, the rounded-ish piece half way along was another building. Hard to describe but if I can find a picture, I'll link it.

@@BetamaxKing I couldn’t really find an image of the mall pre 80s, but there is pictures of it under construction while it was becoming a mall. The Canadian tire area which is now shoppers seems to be under construction, was that there before the mall?

What a difference 25 years makes,especially since Bedford is now just another glorified district in the HRM and Zellers has ceased to exist for a while now.However,I don't think that Bedford has ever stopped growing since.

Zellers moved across the street to Bedford Place Mall in 1996, and Canadian Tire moved to Bedford Commons. Zellers then shut down in 2013 and became a Target store, but now Target is closed down and they are making it into a strip mall!!

The Lawton's Drug was pulled out too, and moved down the road to a bigger and new location!!

there is so much xtra developement everywhere now that this place has sunk but still has its merits..but the overall population of the whole area did not double in 10 yrs and is now in 2023 closing in on 500 G with immigrants filling up every new building…thats all folks
