      i did not watch the first airing of Twin Peaks... BUT... i was not aware of david lynch's style. i hadnt seen any of his movies.
      i was yelled at by a friend when i told them i hadn't seen Twin Peaks.
      then i watched it and god, i was not expecting ANY super natural anything's happening in that show.
      i'll never forget that feeling.
      also when The Return finally aired it was magical to see 25 year old promise kept

      +Landon Le. It was only "shit" to the people that didn't see the value in it after the murder of Laura Palmer was solved. Sure, it dragged on, but it gradually culminated (the last 6 episodes) into the bizarre, surreal association of fear and psychological fuckery.

      yeah the second season became a huge embarrassing laughable mess. I know the show was known for its humor too because it balance out the supernatural, but in season 2 they overdid the quirky comedy with annoying subplots like that orphan boy and lana, who wasn't even hot btw. Maybe season 3 will have the perfect balance and EVERYBODY in twin peaks will be effected by the supernatural(aka BOB) not some stupid filler story like the fighting over the mill house or the horne's "environmental" issues.

    • @andywood375
      @andywood375 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

    • @ADT2695
      @ADT2695 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Landon Le,
      I didn't really realize you even responded to me, but you evidently stopped completely giving a shit about it after season 2, episode 10 or 11, where Leland Palmer died. That would be well into the second season, so it would be the *second half* of the season where it dragged on that you'd be talking about. Up until at least the last 3 episodes, if not the last 6, at the most.
      Let me make the obvious known, it's clear they disguised this as a serial drama, screwball and cheesy comedy, with the indentations of strange, surreal and psychologically thrilling. It adeptly provided you with that and never pushed it to the point of redundancy. Maybe it was a little too sparse. Then again, he barely directed the episodes, however he wrote all of them in conjunction with Mark Frost. I could go extremely deep into it because I really care to, but I won't.

    There is something about this that resonates with me. Laura’s shadow, her doppelgänger. The scream and her movements are a pure reaction to the trauma she has endured. It is both devastating and full of rage. Perhaps it is a projection. But it is cathartic

Laura could feel resentment towards many things and people, however irrational it may be, for perceived slights: why was she 'abandoned', why did no one save her, why did she have to suffer such a horrible fate, why is she still not at peace even after death etc

      What would an evil person's doppelgänger be like?

    • @Housesider
      @Housesider ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Tumbledweeb It seems in the world of TP that either everyone, or everyone who enters the Lodges has a "shadow self" or doppelganger, as Hawk told Cooper once prior to Season 3. Laura is shown in Season 3 to be an essence of pure light and goodness, which is the opposite of BOB, yet she has a doppelganger as well. Take note of how The Arm's doppelganger decides to alert Coop to the presence of Laura's doppelganger at one point. Interesting "motivations" behind these entities. Even despite The Arm's very origin being the literal detached arm from MIKE (who himself apparently used to be evil but became good at some point), he somehow has the ability to have a shadow self. Fascinating stuff.

Are those people wrong?

    • @jossym
      @jossym 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@alexf9381 That's in reference to the latter part of season 2. Very briefly, what happened was that after the success of S1, Lynch never wanted to reveal who Laura Palmer's killer was as he viewed it as the anchor with which everything else in the show clung to. The network forced his hand so it was revealed in episode 7 of the 2nd season. Some point shortly after that, a fed up David Lynch stepped away and was no longer involved. You can tell by the quality of the writing (was as if those in his place were trying to write in his style - which is impossible). He returned though at the end and made huge rewrites to completed scripts, rescuing the show from finishing poorly (this clip is from the S02 finale).
      Although I'm biased as a big fan of the show, I rewatched the whole lot a few months back and I thought the 2nd half of S02 was better than I had remembered. This could just be personal preference though and maybe you won't agree. I still believe that to truly appreciate the whole thing, you need to watch it all (in the order I stated in my previous comment).
      Don't forget - Fire walk with me was universally panned by all the critics when it was released and bombed at the box office. Now it's considered by many as Lynch's finest work (I always thought it was great, but again that could just be because I am a fan).
      I would advise trying to watch it all, but in terms of quality that part of season 2 where Lynch wasn't involved is the weakest. But if you stick it out, you'll get your rewards with what follows.

    I never noticed it before, and I've seen this episode many times since I saw it upon first airing in 1991, but Laura here climbs backward over the couch just like Bob in reverse during season two episode two. There's a suggested connection between the two. Notice also that at the end of this clip the blackness and strobe lighting around Laura transports us back to her death in the boxcar, as seen in both season two episode one and FWWM.

    Twin Peaks is the only thing we have seen that can be compared with the psychological terror of The Shining, and that's a big deal.

    • @clairekim2525
      @clairekim2525 ปีที่แล้ว

      this makes a lot of sense, since Stanley Kubrick has said that not only was Eraserhead his favorite film, but he specifically was inspired by Eraserhead when making The Shining. He apparently made the cast and crew watch it to give them an idea of the tone and mood he wanted to create on The Shining.

      I know, right? I watched the show only a few years ago, but I also noticed it in the song. I actually got suspicious when I saw the title of the song after watching the show. It's taken from one of the very first lines spoken in the pilot episode. "She's dead. Wrapped in plastic." So I gave the song a listen, and there was her shriek!
      I was also hoping that it was her scream sampled for The Weeknd's song "The Hills" but apparently that's from "The hills have eyes" remake. :(
