    @ryanmattox7408 ปีที่แล้ว +49

    Bobby's reaction is so mature somehow.
    You can tell he's overwhelmed by a lot of different emotions at once.
    -Grief, probably dual grief for the death of Laura and the disappearance of his father soon afterwards.
    -Love, obviously, for who Laura was and how much he must have grown to understand how special she was as he aged.
    -Regret, for how he treated her and, probably, Shelly too.
    -There's a little bit of happiness that brings it together as well, thought it's more of a peacefulness than 'happy' I suppose. A sense that he's not the angry, emotional turbulent kid he once was but a grown man with the ability to find harmony despite all that he's seen and endured and done to others.
    He's moved on and found a way to live a life beyond the events of that time 25 years ago and seeing that picture draws that all out of him again but's he's grown enough to find peace.

    What gets to me about this scene, is what has always gotten to me about the original show. The death of Laura Palmer, even "25 years" later, is never treated as a joke or played for laughs. Like others have mentioned, this is the first time Badalamenti's music is played in the 3rd season: Laura Palmer's Theme, being played as a moment of remembrance for why we even have Twin Peaks in the first place. This scene very easily could have been made as a parody, but while Bobby is getting emotional, and the score is playing in the background, everyone in that room becomes serious. Even Andy and Lucy, who have been used as comic relief for the entire season so far, have a moment of respect. An extremely emotional, beautiful scene.

      @@stevenelliottcaedmonshinde2062 yeah David Lynch is well known for his sense of humour. There is no way that this scene is actually supposed to be taken seriously.

      It's totally played for laughs

    • @freefa1118
      @freefa1118 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@YetaxaI mean, that's how grief works sometimes isn't it? You'll be trying your best to keep going and something will happen to remind you of what happened, it can hit like a truck out of nowhere. And isn't that just a little darkly funny? It's emotional catharsis as a metaphorical slapstick, to go from mostly fine to an emotional mess in an instant is kinda silly right? Doesn't mean that the emotions weren't very real.
      To be honest I think it can kinda be read as both emotionally resonant and beautiful and a little melodramatic and silly, because the emotions involved in processing something like someone you're close to dying. Twin Peaks is kinda born off this dichotomy (which is funny cause of how much lynch plays with doubles). The first two seasons were extremely melodramatic and silly but the show had an extremely strong emotional core that blended (barring some outliers like james) with the silly.
      I don't think it's entirely a matter of "you should take this seriously, and this not seriously." Even in the lighter segments/jokes, it's not devoid of that emotional core.

      you have to admit, after 3 episodes of not hearing twin peaks music outside of the intro, that hearing Laura's theme (particularly how it was used) was powerful. After not hearing any recognizable themes for the first three hours, having Lauras theme catch me off guard hit me like a sack of bricks and really got me emotionally invested in the scene.

      This scene and its music was what triggered a sad little gasp from me when I saw this unfold (I didn't have Showtime when The Return was broadcast so I bought the DVD set later on). Now, I hadn't watched the show back in its initial broadcast because it was a crazy time in my life and television was a back burner thing; however I saw it on the Bravo channel when they aired both seasons a year or two later. I recorded every episode on VHS tapes for re-visits (editing out commercials as they aired, which is a hassle but so worth it for future viewings). I was amazed at a network show that could be such a stirring and addictive blend of genres like soap opera, thriller, and film noir and comedy.
      But, yeah, this clip here, this was how I knew it was going to feel, sooner or later in the new chapter of Twin Peaks. I didn't expect Season 3 to be very similar to the previous ones, but when Lynch harkened back to the show this way I was so touched and moved. Television rarely weaves that kind of emotional magic. You're right: powerful stuff.

    While I've thoroughly enjoyed every minute of Season 3 I've seen so far, it was this scene that fully drew me in and emotionally engaged me like nothing before it. Like Bobby, I all of a sudden found myself flung back 25 years and re-experiencing events as if they'd only just taken place and the wounds were still fresh.

    This scene (along with James staring in the bar) always get to me the most. Bobby being reminded of his past and his love from a very turbulent time that ended with him and his father (who were at odds), reconnecting, him becoming a man living a life to be proud of... it hurt to see him remember Laura and the horror of his youth.

    I’ve always been fascinated by _Twin Peaks,_ but find it a little too frustrating to really get into. That said, this moment still kicked me in the heart: it was like Laura had just died all over again. Kudos to Dana Ashbrook for absolutely selling it.

    when the music hit it was like a ton of bricks, i didnt find the scene funny in the least. more heartbreaking, because after all this time bobby still hasnt totally let go of Laura. and the music is Lynchs' way of making sure you feel that.

    When this scene with the Laura theme kicked me from out of nowhere, I had to pause it for a while due to wave of nostalgia where a little kid myself watched the opening of S1 E1 (only downer was that it was Korean dub version..) with my old brother for the first time thru small TV that was more than two decades ago... whatsoever crazy/weird/vague things David Linch put on together, I love that he knew how audience would react with this little moment he added as a gift for whole TP fans worldwide waiting 25 years.

    My character guess is that Bobby worked really hard to put that part of his past away. And become a better person. Which we see he did. Maybe he went as far as avoiding pictures of Laura. And soon it was all gone... This picture probably released so much emotion.
    I love this scene, and i love what they decided to do with Bobby. It was a very good twist.

    I think the new series takes us from a disintegrated, formless nightmare of the old series but in this scene takes us back to its original spirit, slowly seeping back into its familiar form. it goes from the cold and distant to the human and familiar. I don't think I've ever seen this effect pulled off elsewhere before. Lynch is playing with feelings. When the music started up here I was speechless at the impacting resurrection of that old 'twin peaks' feeling when the preceding episodes felt like a foreign nightmare.
