I've seen a lot of interviews with Taika, and this is one of the very few that I've seen where the interviewer is actually able to connect with him and make the most of the interview.
NZ’s national treasure. Like, as in, he was voted New Zealander of the Year for 2017. New Zealand got together and were like, “yep, Taika’s the best we’ve got”. And you got him drunk and interviewed him. Brilliant.
Ugh, what a lad...how is he this cool. This is the loveliest chat. I wish all directors would scoop me up like a little duckling in their films. A better world for all, that would be.
@@ilurvsharrypotter I'm thinking this one definitely happened while he was still drunk too, lol. But then again he's Taika and Jeff is Jeff, o who knows? lol. He is wearing the same outfit though. -- th-cam.com/video/sorMiDJ-J-A/w-d-xo.html
yes! and maybe thats why Taika enjoy this one so much, compared to his other interviews. Taika was always like, "i know this is a job, but lets enjoy this", and other interview was like "no, i know we should enjoy this, but this is a job, my job.". and hazel just like "alrighty mate! Cheers!"
Yep, sort of reminded me of Craig Ferguson interview. Hard to get better than that. Also Taika is just perfect for this sort of interview, due to just being bloody hilarious
Agreed. Whenever I watch an interview with him, I feel like he’s flirting with me and I get very dopey and have a stupid smile plastered on my face the whole time.
You said "It's interesting cause I was talking to Guillermo del Toro" like that's a normal fucking thing. I really want to be in a place when I can say something like that so casually.
If you had told me that this was just Hazel interviewing an old friend, I 100% would believe you. This is really all aspects of Hazel, jokes, in depth move talk, and lots of alcohol.
you have this fluidity to your interviewing style which manages to put the interviewee at ease. Even though I know you would have done a lot of work to make your interviewing style look so effortless. Brilliant as always!
CHEMISTRY!!! Such good chemistry, the dynamic of this interview is great. Hazel has a a talent for bringing out the human in seemingly out of reach celebrities/artists/directors.
I still can’t believe he went from the 24hr film festival here in NZ to doing a blockbuster so fast just shows with real talent an Oscar nomination can still be a huge launching point especially with a little local funding to help out. I hope our new government increases arts funding so we can create more Taikas
I adore this interviewer. She's so relaxed and funny and it really works making Taika comfortable. He's usually so bored with getting the same lame, generic questions over and over. I've rarely seen him so at ease just talking without a script and having a good time. Brilliant interview!
This was beautiful, this is my first exposure to Taika but I couldn't have asked for a better introduction and I'm a bit more invested in seeing Thor after this
He’s made some awesome movies, Hunt for the Wilderpeople is one of his more recent movies, he made it and acted in it as the minister, and it’s bloody hilarious
I love how the replies to this comment are literally "watch all his movies" But yeah Taika is great, I recommend starting with Hunt For The Wilderpeople!
I've been watching a buncha interviews with Taika in a roll (just cause I love him) and, I've got to say, this one is the best I've ever seen. You are so genuine and so engaged and casual, it really transpires how much you admire him and, at the same time, it looks like you guys are friends just shooting the shit. Also, I think this is the most laid back, comfortable and "off" I've seen him in an interview (that may have to do with the alcohol a bit) and it was just great. I'm in. Subscribed.
5:00 is one of my favourite moments on TH-cam. Hazel taking the opportunity to ask a big name like Taika such a basic, everyday question on this online platform is so important! And Taika’s response is just classic. This video is very wholesome. Thank you Hazel.
I really enjoy watching your interviews with celebrities. I think it’s because you approach them as people instead of as a celebrity - it really calming and refreshing to see these people that get glorified and put on a pedestal really down to earth and opening up about what that experience is like. Cheers hazel 🖤
Guys, if you haven't seen What We Do in the Shadows. It's classic NZ humour. It's hilarious. It showcases this mans genuine talent. Get thai food, drink rose and laugh and laugh and laugh.
I've really fallen in love with Taika over this press tour as he is so talented, self aware and genuinely funny. This is the best interview I've see with him. I mean, I love all the Tipsy Talks because they're an amazing way to do an interview and get the interviewee comfortable. Taika seemed completely in his element here. Loved it.
Thor 3 was such a breath of fresh air is single handedly DRAGGED me back into the marvel movies and after a decade of movies (most of which I had skipped tbh) I suddenly gave a shit and now I've watched and rewatched like every single film because he gave me new favorite characters to root for.
Taika Waititi is my favourite director alive. So fecking funny. Boy, What We Do in the Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople, just some of the funniest films to come out in the last few years. I'm sure the new Thor one will be gas. I appreciate that he actually did the interview with you to begin with, Hazel (no offense intended). He's just such a big name in my mind. And I appreciate you Hazel for this great vid.
I think what I love most about this interview is, A, How easy it was. It seemed like you two have been friends for years. B, HOW enthusiastic you both are. The look on his face when you said you cried at the scene on the bridge, he looked genuinely so happy by that emotive response. And C, the questions and atmosphere. Was a really interesting and funny watch. Thank you.
I am genuinely interested in Taika Waititi after watching this. I had no intentions of seeing this movie until now. I didn’t even know who he was. I know alcohol is involved, but he seems so down-to-earth. I love the conversation. Professional but so chill. Great interview, as always, Hazel!
Glad to hear others also had a strong emotional reaction to the bridge scene with the Led Zeppelin song..I didn't exactly cry, but I definitely got teary and got chills through out the whole sequence, almost felt euphoric. I remember telling myself while it was happening "this is why I love the MCU". We need more awesome scenes with even more awesome music like that in the MCU.

I always say this, but I can't help but love the way you make interviews feel so effortless and not awkward in the slightest. Seemed like a great time. Loved to watch this.

Best tipsy talk yet. What we do in the shadows is one of my all time guilty pleasures. And the hunt for the wilder people was bloody good too. Looking forward to seeing this one now.
this is the best tipsy talk to date. there is zero impression of anyone being on a higher level than anyone else and honestly hazel i see you - make friends with all these people by getting them drunk and having a laugh and then work with them later when you're inevitably big and famous and in interviews when they ask how you met you can chuckle and say "oh we go way back"

Yeah, he usually runs rings around them and is way too quick-whitted for them to keep up. This was lovely.

A proper tipsy talk :D Love the tipsy part! Proper made me laugh.
"Stop doing crime!"
This is by far the best one, and I loved the one with the girls from Pitch Perfect - loved it, but this was gold.
I think we all want to be scooped up like ducklings now.
„Stop doing Crime!“ - Hazel Hayes 2017, Philosopher
But seriously he seems like a very cool guy! This is an amazing interview
Best tipsy talk yet. What we do in the shadows is one of my all time guilty pleasures. And the hunt for the wilder people was bloody good too. Looking forward to seeing this one now.
😂😂I love how the ending just kinda fell apart... lmao I’m dying hazel😂😂😂
honestly the single best promo interview i've seen.
this is the best tipsy talk to date. there is zero impression of anyone being on a higher level than anyone else and honestly hazel i see you - make friends with all these people by getting them drunk and having a laugh and then work with them later when you're inevitably big and famous and in interviews when they ask how you met you can chuckle and say "oh we go way back"
