There is nothing like photography at night in the woodlands. Thank you for your interest and for sharing this video.
Wow wow wow 👌 👏
Cracking video Adam you made that look easy
Hi Adam, great video, light painting using drone is something what I want to do. Little advice from someone who is doing a lot of night photography: cover back of your camera ( especially when using a mirror cameras) to block light coming into sensor through eyepiece.
Very creative photographer. Nice photos.
Cool ! Now for the next months, where the sun fall down early, this is another fantastic idea to shot landscapes. Now I'm addicted to landscapes with old villages playing with stacking to capture every detail. Great photos and video. Thanks !
Simply amazing pictures thanks for sharing
Lovely shot and a job well done
Some great ideas…need to live closer to the LD and now need a drone!
Cheers Ian
Thanks for this!
My pleasure!
Good job Adam, the overhead lighting worked really well! 👍
Thanks mate, appreciate it.
Awesome work.
Cheers Marty
Great video @firstmanphotography - Who said men can't multitask!
Enjoyed this Adam, each image had its own appeal to it as well.
Great video! Will have to try this!
Adam, you’re so good at this work. I’m always ready to grab my camera bag after watching you. Thanks for the video, and constant stream of ideas.
An inspiring video as always thank you. The last shot is my favorite, it forces the viewer to guess how it is possible and where is the light coming from.
well done
That was fun. I was smiling right along with you. Thanks.
Wow, wow, wow what a beautiful photo and great idea to "play" the light.
Definitely a topper. I also saw the other video with the big tree and the lighting from above. Super on to the next video.
Excellent idea with the drone! I loved it! Thanks for sharing... 😊
Excellent video, thank you for sharing....
Simply awesome bro 🎉
Another great video Adam, that final shot is beautiful too. I’ll check the description but keen to know about the light or more importantly how they are attached to the drone and where they are available from
Superb. Thank you, Adam. Loved all three.
Awesome, thank you!
Awesome
Great. Loved it.
Thanks Roger
Beautiful. Love the easy to advanced-take on the subject. Shows the opportunities for all levels. 👍
Thanks Lars, really appreciate it.
Yeah the drone version has something extra to the image that makes it stand out. I think that you can dim a bit more the light and still be great. Another fantastic video Adam and a very original way to use your drone. Cheers
Great video Adam, I’m loving watching your project develop. You’ve certainly given me the inspiration to get cracking with my own projects.
Thanks Claire, really appreciate the comment.
Great video Adam, really enjoyed it and the images were amazing. In future could you consider having a ring light painted from the drone on top of the small tree as you did with the lone tree last time.
AMAZING IMAGES!!! Loved them:))
Thanks Deb, much appreciated.
Beautiful , thanks for the ideas..
Thank you! 😊
another awesome informative video Adam keep up the awesome videos
Cheers Michael
Beautiful images. And thanks for the ideas. Not owning a drone or planning in buying one for me options 1 and 2 give plenty of ideas to explore.
I love that tree as well even though I’ve only been there once. The fence at the start was easily recognisable. Great video Adam, drone lighting for me
Hey Adam,
I hope you are doing well & great video BTW! I love Night Time photography
I just wanted to say, that your work [photos, videos & stories] had inspired me to get into photography more serious! It is when I was looking around good old YT for tips for long exposure [as I did not have a clue what I was doing with my little Olympus TG-6 Live Composite Mode] I came across your channel, and I subscribed ever since. I even listened to all your Podcasts from back in a day, and the most recent one :)
9 Months later and I have completed an online photo course, used my partners old and unused Lumix Bridge Camera to improve in Manual Mode and in July upgraded to a Canon 850D, with couple of Kit Lenses, and now trying to Master Manual Focus.
I'm not going to ramble too much, but I just wanted to say thank you for your creativity & inspiration, as I do think if it wasn't for you and your work, I would not be out here taking photos and trying new things :)
Stay Safe out there! and maybe one day I'll bump into you in a great outdoors!
Thanks Again!
Hi Charlie, thanks for this amazing comment. Very humbling and means a lot.
Thanks for sharing this episode I always wanted to do light painting. The two images were excellent but the one with the drone had better light Keep up the good work Adam
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
Great stuff Adam! I enjoy doing night photography. I need to do more of it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and images!
Thanks Jon
Very well done : inspirational !
Thanks Paul. very kind.
Enjoyable video, Adam. I'm not a big fan of drones - I think they can spoil the outdoor experience - but in this case it made for a great creation!
Thanks Roger. I can safely say there was no one else around to hear it.
Excellent, really lovely images, really enjoy how you fit them into the video so we can see how they turn out.
Many thanks!
Nice images Adam , and kudos for filming all that in the dark .
Thanks David
Brilliant
Thanks Phil
Very nice results and goes well with the previous night time tree. One grumble for me the rock below the tree is just a tad bright for my eye and draws away from the tree.
Hi Andrew. I think you might be right. One of my problems is shooting these images and videos with my deadline only about 20 hours ahead so editing is always a rush. I have now added in a subtle gradient at the bottom and it looks much better. Thanks.
This is something I'm keen to try Adam. A great video mate, loved the images, but that last one was WOW! Great stuff :)
Thanks Paul, chuffed you liked it.
I liked the drone shot, but I found the light a little bright for my taste...I wonder if the light was slightly subdued and a different colour(bluish perhaps),would it not appear more like moonlight? As I say, only my opinion, not meant as a crit of the image...thanks for continuing to inspire!
Cheers Neil. I played around with the colour palette quite a lot to try and make the foreground and background compliment each other. I ended up feeling the extra warmth in the foreground was required.
Can I ask what light did you use on the camera you were videoing on cheers
Nice images Adam. I had some success recently with a couple of Milky Way shoots but we're now in lockdown (several weeks now). I'm hoping to get back out again before the MW season ends here in Australia.
Wow, that is sooo cool, Adam! I love it. And I especially love that little tree - I can see why you've developed such a bond with it. Geez, I have to try this myself! Thanks, mate. :-)
Ha, thanks Peter. Very kind.
Talk about multi tasking and done well. My preference is the last image where the light painting is from the drone. Thank you for sharing Adam.
I didn't catch the name of the other photographer /TH-cam channel mentioned at the beginning. Can someone please share? Thanks.
One thing would have made this perfect 😊 you sitting next to the tree, a tiny bit behind it 😊
A great video. I liked all the images. There’s no way I’m going to be able to get a drone and they’re difficult to fly in New York State legally without a licence. And I would be arrested if I attempted to fly a drone in the vicinity of one of New York City’s 19 reservoirs and three controlled lakes. But I can use torches. I liked the last image with the last glimmers of daylight on the background above the mountains. That was terrific. How long after sunset was this? The fist panorama image with the pink golden light on the mountains was absolutely gorgeous!
Night woodland photography. Is that something you do? Like, in really gray sky and really dark night. I feel trigger happy, but I'm out of good ideas of what to shoot 😬
Great idea of the drone lighting up from above, lots going on, you did well. I’m interested in buying your book, which you worked so hard to get published. How do I go about it? I really like your channel, you come across very sincere, passionate, and you have a good delivery when you speak.
Thanks for the kind words Stuart. You can find the book here - www.firstmanphotography.com/books/illumination
Great stuff Adam. I like both images but for me I prefer the 2nd image as there's something more "other worldly" about the drone lit image - it reminded me of Close Encounters of the third kind (are you old enough to remeber that?)
Ha yeah. it came out a few years before I was born but I’ve always loved it.
v cool.... I may copy the drone spotlight idea if that's ok with you :)
Now I want to go purchase a drone, I can see the "eye roll" from my wife already! What drone did you use? I couldn't find it in your list of gear, thanks!
DJI Mavic.....the 1st version.
What the name of the music u have on ur vid
It's mostly Dan Phillipson
I never light paint from the same angle as the camera, I always light paint from angles and if need be blend them as layers in photo shop.
Interesting. It would have been more educational if you had shown your mistakes or at least how you progressed to the final exposure. Very rarely does one make the perfect exposure on the first try, it would have been nice to have seen the first exposure of the second shot.
I wonder if there was a bit of fill-in light from your camera light on the third shot.
The best part of night photography is trying something new, making mistakes and learning from them.
Keep in mind, this is just my opinion: Like a lot of light painting, it's too "in your face". It doesn't look like moon light or anything other than artificial lighting, which isn't always bad, but in this case ... not so good.
It would have to be shot with a torch for me as I don't own a drone. There is no where you are allowed to fly one either.
All would have been lost if you also had to chew gum... great images while multitasking!
Lol. Thanks Randy
Somewhere a drunk, in the middle of nowhere now has a story about the aliens he could see in the sky, and how they came for him 😅
Yes thats fine if you can spend thousands on a drone special lighting, getting there, hotels etc etc while being sponsored by Square space while in the real world.......
