  • Today I want to share my journey with facial redness and rosacea. I'm in a happy place with it at the moment and I want to share the ways in which I feel I’ve helped improve it. I have spent a lot of money on it over the span of 3 years (on products and treatments) some didn’t work, some did.
    I’m Gonna share some quick temporary fixes and some long term results and goals too.

    So I'm a chemist and finishing my PhD on organic and biological chemistry with focus on microbiology, and there's definitely science behind what you're saying. I also suffer from rosacea and had a terrible flare up a couple of months ago after moving countries, with the manifestation of pustules, which I had never had before. That made me dig in a lot more on rosacea literature and scientific studies and I was very surprised to find many studies on the relation of gut health and gut microbiota and rosacea, specially the inflammatory kind with pustules that I was experiencing. Ever since then I started taking probiotics, eating better, handling my stress levels and also aligning that with a gentle skincare routine with use of prescribed metronidazole for the pustules and this crisis is almost over now, and I'm certain it's due to a combination of all of those factors.

I found chocolate is pretty bad, unfortunately 😔 I am still dealing with marks from Xmas making chocolate balls as gifts and had some extra for home. A strange tip but here goes: for anyone who is struggling with gut bacterial health. Even if you eat a perfect diet, your oral hygiene must be on point! The bad bacteria’s in our mouths go down with the food when we chew, and end up in our guts where they wreak havoc. (Those are the bacteria’s that actually makes 💩 smell awful - they cause nasty halitosis too) Flossing properly and making sure your teeth are in mint condition can save your guts!

    WOW all of this is what I deal with as well! The GERD, IBS, rosaecea, and stress! It is like you are describing the last several years of my life! Taking an anti-spasmodic has helped me so so much but watching what I eat, trying to consistently exercise, and prioritizing stress relief makes all of it much more manageable. I was diagnosed with Acute Acid Reflux many years ago. Just as you described; trouble swallowing, a constant pressure on my upper chest, a f... nightmare. I had to sleep with 3 pillows propped up on my back bc I would wake up in middle of night feeling as I was choking on my own saliva. After having the exams you mentioned, going to a referred nutritionist, etc. (exhausting) It was directly relayed to high stress levels. If you'd be interested, Yoga and meditation helped and continues to help for my stress/anxiety. Taking more time for yourself, with your pups, anything that brings you serenity . Wishing you continued recovery. It takes some time, but you'll find yourself feeling betterment whilst practicing gentle self-care. 🤗

    Niod modulating glucosides really helps with reducing the flushing and irritation. It soothes quickly, and over time it works with other barrier friendly products to make my skin stronger and less likely to flush. Can't live without it!
    Also, yes, digestive issues and stress reduction are it! The good thing about healthily managing stress is it helps the rest of your body and your health too. Stress can do so much more than cause rosacea, it's crucial to get it under control for your lasting health. I'm glad you're taking it seriously now!

      Which ingredients in NIODs MG help with redness? Do you need to use it daily?

    • @oceanbird.
      @oceanbird. ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@susanb3989 I have no idea what works about it, I'm not a cosmetic chemist. It's some proprietary blend of "glucosides" that niod came up with. I've never seen those same ingredients in another skincare product, and nothing else works as well as it does. I just read the description on niod's website and thought "hey I'll give it a try, I've tried a hundred other calming serums maybe I'll try one more." I will say I tried another "glucosides" product, from the inkey list I think, and it didn't do anything. Whatever is in that one is not the same as the niod one. I consider the niod modulating glucosides to be a product innovation, I've never encountered or heard of anything else like it.
      Yes I use it every day. I've been using it for over a year and my skin is feeling way stronger and less reactive now so I skip it sometimes.
      What James says about diet and stress is the root cause of chronic rosacea (in my opinion), but niod modulating glucosides helps in the short term.

    I also have IBS and reflux as well as Gastroparesis (delayed gastric emptying) and can definitely relate to the severe pain side of it. There are times I just don't want to go out, because I know I'm having a flare up and at any moment I could end up being gripped with colicky pains and bent over double, which is really embarrassing for me if it happens out in public. That and having to always make sure I know exactly where a toilet is at a moment's notice when I'm having a bad flare up. Thank you for doing this video! It's nice seeing someone talk about rosacea who actually lives with it and can speak to the effectiveness of the products they've tried.
    I tried Mirvaso and, sadly, had bad rebound flushing beginning with the second time I used it and it only got worse with each application. Very hot flushing, much more intense redness, skin was very tender to the touch, and the flushing was happening during times that were very unusual for me. It took about 6 months for my skin to get back to normal (normal for me) after I stopped using it. I held onto it for about a year thinking I could keep it on hand for important events, but even after not using it for an extended period of time, my skin would start flushing shortly after application and would take several days to calm down. The first day I used it felt like a dream and I am still so disappointed it doesn't work for me.

But I had to exclude it 100% since even the smallest amount aggravates it. I’ve not had any stomach problems for 2 years now. Hey darling, first thing to say is I love you and your videos. I have been suffering form IBS-C for many years - and I mean suffering, to the extent that it's greatly influenced and impacted my life. I SO appreciate that you brought this up, since there's generally such a stigma around GI issues. I've done so many tests over the course of my life for this. Most recently I got an anorectal manometry test that's supposed to inform what kind of physical therapy I should do to solve the issue - if you find that you've hit a wall with treating your IBS, please push for this test. It took 7 years for someone to refer me for it, and the nurse has told me so many patients have found relief in only a year or so of targeted physical therapy. Anyway, wishing you the best, and welcome to the "hot girls with tummy issues" club ♥

I've also suffered from chronic urticaria (hives) and other mystery allergy-type symptoms that the NHS can't/won't help with. Like you I worked in skin care, so probably made it worse by constantly trying different products. As far as topical treatments go, I've had good success with metronizadole and ivermectin (in a prescription formula from Dematica). It significantly smoothed my skin and cleared up all soreness, but it only reduced redness by about 50%. I haven't found any consumer products, even high end expensive skincare, that improve redness.

    Love your videos! Fellow rosacea sufferer here in America. For lasers- look into the Cutera Excel V laser. It’s a newer one that targets vascular and diffuse redness. I’ve had one session and saw a reduction and it does zap the surface blood vessels. More than one session is needed. Also- there are lots of red/NIR masks available in the US. I’ve been using one by Higher Dose and can see some difference already. I’ve also struggled with reflux/iBS in the past- did your doctors ever mention something called LPR? Laryngopharyngeal reflux? Or “silent” reflux as it’s called? That’s exactly what it sounds like - lump in the throat, needing to clear throat etc. and usually the omeprazole type meds don’t help….mostly controlling foods etc can help but it sucks! Glad you are seeing some relief from the redness.

    I also have the Dermalux flex and it is everything!!
    The blue, red and NIR are just wavelengths of light that penetrate to different depths in the skin and at those depths they affect different processes….so NIR is great bc it’s anti-inflammatory and also promotes collagen production (a two for one for you since rosacea is an inflammatory condition).
    Your skin looks beautiful, love that it’s working for you!
    Look at Sensate. It can help with stress. It looks dumb but it actually helps de-stress.

    I’m so happy that you’ve had healing with your digestive problems. I have GERD and IBS-C and it has taken me years to find what works for me. I know that when my GERD is really bad I feel the burning in my throat and it becomes difficult to take pills and swallow. As I heal from a bad bout I can feel the scarring and it’s so awful. I have found that my GERD gets worse during finals, eating pineapple, pesto, fresh tomatoes, and when I wear a lot of tight clothes. It’s different for everyone but those are some of my triggers. I have these medications I take when it’s really bad, but I take one every day. I also take marshmallow root, ginger, fiber, and magnesium as well. I am considering getting a surgery to correct it and I hope it works.

    I find this fascinating! I'm obsessed with skincare especially in terms of medical contributing factors. I have Mitochondrial disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Due to that I have suffered with melasma on my forehead. Heat being a trigger for melasma I don't know how beneficial infrared light would be for me. I do have a solawave and it doesn't heat as much as infrared. I've been a little lazy about using it but my dermatologist prescribed me a 20% azelaic acid cream and my melasma had cleared up by 80%. Unfortunately stress from my job has caused it to reappear a bit. I put my two weeks in last weekend and I already feel better so hopefully everything will be on the up💜💜💜

    James, I think you're absolutely onto something. I have IBD and when I'm in a flare my skin is also at its worst. I went a few years of having my IBD fluctuate up and down and my inflammation levels go through the roof and you could def tell this through how my skin was also looking. I'm not sure what it is either. Is it stress, general inflammation in the body, the gut, who honestly knows. All I know is that I've definitely noticed a positive correlation for when my IBD is flared up, and when my skin is as well. Just wanted to put this out there so you know you're not crazy haha, I feel you.

Thanks James!

      I have a different illness, and I can't have cow milk (among other foods), but I will never give up cheese or chocolate (unless they come up with better tasting vegan inexpensive options). I think that if you know ahead of time and are able to deal with the consequences, eating what you love is gonna help your brain be happier, which in turn can actually end up helping with whatever illness you have. I hope your flare up isn't too bad.

He also gets that weird feeling in the back of his throat and it can take months to clear, plus he had a nasty case of hives that we had to see a specialist for as antihistamine wasn't helping.
    Because he's so young the only place he can get treatment is in the hospital system which we finally got an appointment for 2 weeks ago. I hope with the right testing, nutritionists and endoscopy soon, he comes as far as you have! Gosh I actually started watching this because I have rosacea lol! I’ve had rosacea for a long time, but it didn’t become an issue until I turned 30 and then it got worse and worse. My biggest concerns were the tiny broken vessels, flushing and overall irritation. I tried a lot of things and really focused on barrier repair, but IPL has been the only effective treatment. It took 4 sessions (with a dermatologist) before I saw a real difference, but the difference was amazing. Most of my blood vessels were gone or very faded. There’s no perfect option, but I was more than happy to go out without foundation or makeup. I also flushed way less often and didn’t have the constant irritation or aching cheeks at the end of the day.
    IPL won’t get rid of everything and I’ll have to keep going once or twice a year (new vessels always popping up), but for me it was sooo worth it. It’s expensive but most places will let you do a partial face treatment. It’s cheaper and focuses on the area you have vessels. I’d highly recommend getting it through a dermatologist and not one of the medical spas.
    Lastly, I’ll add I’m on the ivermectin cream. It’s less useful for my type of rosacea, but helps keep the bumps away. Good luck everyone! Rosacea is not fun and can be really uncomfortable and embarrassing, but you’re gorgeous red-faced or not.

    Clicked even faster than usual! My rosacea started due to stress. Apparently it’s the blood vessels, nerve endings and sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) that are more sensitive. Winter is my main trigger, the cold and the heating on. Gonna try medication for the flushing next winter, it’s unbearable like burning. I will try IPL if blood vessels become too visible in future. I saw a private dermatologist who helped a lot, it was nice to be taken seriously! Best things for me are a strong daily antihistamine (fexofenadine), steroid cream very occasionally for bad irritation, glass cold globe thingies, Tatcha Overnight Repair and La Mer cream (expensive but it’s either this or suffer, I’ve tried all the cheaper alternatives). No BS Beauty recently recommended Isntree Magnesium Toner for instant redness relief, so I have ordered that 🤞🏻 Thanks for sharing your ✨jOuRnEy✨ 😂

    I have IC and Rosacea. Ive tried many prescribed medications and treatments with no relief.. But truly the number one and pretty much only thing thats helped me is changing my diet. I had to completely cut out anything spicy, acidic, and very oily(like no deep fried). Took me about 3 years to learn a diet that works for me but im so happy i kept going. Sounds like i eat boring but i dont. For dinner tonight i had tacos (i just seasoned myself without ingredients that will aggrivate my stomach and cause a flare) and a chocolate cookie for dessert. I can not believe the change in my over all health and how i feel by simply changing what i eat. I hope you figure out what works for you James ❤ i know how difficult it can be. I am extremely pale and the first time I put it on I almost felt like I looked dead. The cost for it was a bit too much for me to keep using it for a while, but I’m considering trying it again. You are speaking my language! I too have IBS, rosacea which is mostly flushing but also some spider veins around my nose, and flushing with alcohol! I got a red and nir panel from Mito (Pro 750) several years ago. I do 10 min a day with both red and nir and think it makes a big difference. I say that because I quit for awhile and within a few weeks I was getting very intense flushing, hotness, and even small raised areas that I thought were hives. I restarted red light and now I'm back in control or at least it's very manageable. I have to be very careful what I use on my face, I also concentrate on barrier repair. I do use tretinoin but have to stay at .20 and I'm fine with that. I do use The Ordinary Caffeine & EGCG serum before the led therapy because there is a small study that shows an increased benefit when green tea is applied to the treatment area. That serum also provides a good bit of hydration for me. Thank you for this video...I was not aware that nir was better than the red light. I'll switch my panel to nir only and experiment. As a fellow human who doesn't deal all that well with stress, know that I am thinking of you and hoping us both a magic stress elimination wand! Until then, we'll both be doing the best we can! ❤

    near infrared light is further past red light and it like 800+ nm in depth into the skin, its really good for stimulating deep collagen synthesis. also im pretty sure the colors and effects really are that simple. like blue light targets the acne causing bacteria and red light is more used for anti-aging from what ive read. ive always wanted to get one but they literally cost an arm and a leg to buy. 😭😭🤍🖤

    • @oceanbird.
      @oceanbird. ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For those who are curious, the different color lights are different wavelengths of light. Light moves in waves, kind of like waves in the ocean. This isn't a perfect scientific analogy, but to give you an idea to imagine. Like waves in the ocean, there are big waves and small waves. The different colors of light appear when the waves are at certain lengths. Near infrared wavelengths are between 750-1300 nanometers (nm). Red light is 630-750 nm. Blue light is 450-490 nm.

I see from the comments we are in good company. 🙂 Metronidazole cream helped with my rosacea, but when my prescription ran out I decided to try azelaic acid, which is still too new in my routine to know if it’s working. Unfortunately, finding relief for my IBS symptoms is a ? since diet changes and medication haven’t been effective, but my doctor hasn’t finished investigating. It could very well be the Sjogren’s wreaking havoc on my gut. Everything is connected, right?

    I was diagnosed with Chron's last year, and figuring out food triggers with that really helped my Rosacea tremendously. If my gut isn't feeling well, I will usually flush anywhere from immediately to the next day-- and I'm the lucky type that gets Rosacea "acne" too, so literally food breaks me out. Biggest thing I've done is change up my diet, minimize my skincare routine (fragrance, 0niacinimide, vit c all hate me), and exercize-- all tremendous for it. Now, if I could figure out my stress level that'd be amazing, and this LED thing looks heavenly (with the price to match🤣)
