I loved Jodi Benson in “Thumbelina” I had no idea that she was also the voice of Ariel in “The Little Mermaid” from 1989 until I became an adult. I’m so excited to see this film since 2019. I was born in 1989 and my birthday is a few days before the live action version with Halle is released. Best 34th B Day gift ever 😢❤

Actually, there has been an Asian Ariel on Broadway! Her name is Diana Huey, and she's amazing!! Unfortunately, she was also on the receiving end of racist backlash. But she didn't let it get to her, either! So proud of all of our POC Ariels!
I understand what they’re saying about everyone seeing themselves in the character, but didn’t they relate to her already from the beginning anyway? Isn’t that why they love Ariel? Why does a character have to be the the same race as you in order to relate to them?
Tiana was actually a real person set in new Orleans in the 1920s era and her being African American goes along with the story so no that can't happen. You can't compare a fictional mermaid with nonfiction character Like Pocahontas, Mulan, and Tiana.
White folks don't want minorities to have a damn thing that's positive and inspiring. Building this country wasn't enough for them ungrateful mofo's. They still don't want to give credit for that. Nor do they want to see a black person playing a "make believe" character. You just can't please racist's White's no matter what you do.
