They have been doing this one plan for at least 358 years! Also we can guess that Sloth have been digging his tunnel, that whole time. Day 97 of recommending the Beyblade openings. There are the Japanese ones and the English ones. The English version has one opening for a generation, and that for the 1st and 2nd generation. The 3rd gen has one op for one season. But the Japanese version has multiple ops for a season in any gen. You should definitely check both versions out. It gave them a reason to have to follow orders when they were hesitant to fight Sloth outright. - Captain Buccaneer is also a lower rank than Major, so yeah... he pointed a gun at a superior officer xD - Any of my comments are only meant to help inform, not criticize. I love this story, so I love people learning all the ins and outs of it :) I'm sorry to hear some people are expecting you to catch everything. Of course there will be things missed on a first watch! That's why we, the commenters, can (politely, I hope) catch you up on what might have been missed that doesn't affect future episode reactions. - Kimblee's actions in Ishval are well-known, so Major Miles, seeing him in the hospital, already has a huge dislike for the guy. Then Kimblee, who is bedridden with a major wound to the stomach, is trying to tell Miles to leave "the Ishvalen" to him. Miles basically told him what he thought of him while showing that he's also Ishvalen xD And, fair enough, it would be wrong for Briggs to ignore a serial killer roaming loose on their territory just to avoid hurting Kimblee's pride. Kimblee's seen as another person from cushy-central who doesn't understand the perils of the Northern border and that they don't have the luxury of letting serial killers run loose while Drachma could decide to throw the non-aggression pact away and attack at any moment. -"Did any of you watch this when it came out? It's old, isn't it?" (T^T) I read it when it first came out in manga format.... I had to wait for the anime to even be announced.
Think back to what Father said to Hoenheim within his dream. True it was just Hoenheim's dream and Father wasn't really there but they clearly know one another and their motives enough to make that conversation's contents relevant. Father looks at humans as a resource. Envy made the comparison of asking Ed if he showed remorse when throwing a log on a fire. And then you have Mei's understanding of alchahestry and how she feels like the energy on Amestris is like a bunch of people squirming around beneath the ground. Ed also states in this episode what the purpose of a circle in Alchemy is, being that it is used to contain the power of a transmutation. It is all energy in one form or another. An energy Father can clearly control given how he was able to turn off the Alchemy in all of Central. Alchemy can work in the way that Doctor Marcoh explained to Mei and it is likely how it did function before Amestris was founded, but remember, according to the legend, it would have been Father who came from the East to teach the art of Alchemy. If he has been the sole origin for it in the West then it was only ever his version of the teaching that would be known. It'd be easy to tell people the energy for transmutation came from the flow of tectonic movement and volcanic activity in the earth, while actually teaching people to tap into something else entirely, in essence fooling them. The energy that Amestris actually utilizes for its alchemy comes from the souls of the countless people who have died from its military conquest.
The guns were because the Briggs staff grokked that Ed was stubborn under orders from higher up. A show of coercion at gunpoint was meant to let him participate without defying prior orders to conceal facts about things going on at high levels of the military.

I remember some other animes and movies using the fuel as a form of torture in the cold. I forgot the title but there was even one scene where the man being interrogated was given a lighter so he had 3 choices , talk , freeze to death or light himself on fire.
the purpose of the giant transmutation circle was hinted at back when Ed, Ling, and Envy were inside Gluttoney's stomach. I won't say what it is cause I'm pretty sure they explain it outright in a later episode. Also, you're correct in assuming that Father controls alchemy in Amestris. The reason Scar and Mei could perform their alchemy when Ed and Al couldn't is because Mei uses Alkahestry and Scar uses a combination of both alchemy and alkahestry.

Don't you just absolutely love the art of FMA-B? I mean, every scene, every composition, every camera angle, even closeups and character movements are meticulously planned to give the best experience of every second of watching. Lots of other popular anime in comparison look like kids' drawings, with characters just plopped on the screen. FMA-B is a masterclass in how to perfectly animate a perfect story.
I watched this show every week when it first came out on Adult Swim back in 09. I would record the episodes, but then I'd still wake up early to watch it and then I'd rewatch it throughout the week as I waited for the next episode lol

I had been looking forward to this episode so much! I am a fervent fan of Olivier and the most awesome elevator entrance ever. Get ready for many frustrated moments when you don't want the episodes to end as the series keeps going. The writing is that good and that well paced. And in answer to why they were pointing guns at Ed during the Sloth fight- it was because they needed to keep up at least an appearance of 'forcing' Ed and Al to help them. That keeps the bad guys from seeing the boys voluntarily acting against them, and pulling the trigger on their threats to Winry as a result. And- its Briggs. They really didn't trust these new, powerful strangers who showed up and were clearly involved with an attack on the base. Immortal army... wait and see.
Don't worry about the cliffhanger. You will get an answer from father and hohenheim's backstory it had an answer to us all and make us feel awestruck or brainsplosion from whatever you want to called it. Yeah, you will get the answer from their backstory. We promise you for it

Edward made it clear there was stuff he couldn't say, basically confirming that he is being threatened in some way, or someone has some power over him. If Edward were to help Olivier that might piss off the people who have power over Edward. Therefore, they point a gun at him, that way Edward can say "I had no choice".

But I quickly binged it until I was up to date. Then, yes, I had to wait a week for each new episode. Two weeks in at least one case (maybe two; I honestly don't remember how far into the run I started watching), as they took a week off on two occasions. Alchemy draws power from tectonic movement, alchehistry uses the dragons pulse, May mentioned that it feels like all of amestris is being held up by a mass of people squirming in the ground and that that feeling is the worst in central specifically near Father, we at this point know Father is orchestrating some form of plan to make a huge philosophers stone out of amestris, we also know he already possess several enormous stones. The weird feeling May is referring to is likely a stone used by Father to alter the tectonic motion under amestris to prevent damage to the absolutely massive network of very precise tunnels he's spent a very very long time digging, this would also explain how he has control over Alchemy (no tectonic movement = no power for transmutation), as for the rest of his plan Ed actually unknowingly told us it while he was talking to envy inside of gluteny over the pieces of the ruins of Xerxes. "In essence this translates to I will strike God to earth and become a perfect being" though the plan is still very vague and we have no idea what that actually means yet.

hey this has other version the fullmetal alchemist without brotherhood which was released first before the brotherhood in 2003. it has a different ending and main villain. the manga was not finish when the first fullmetal was released, so instead of making a filler episode they are forced to make a different story on the half part of the anime. I hope you can also watch and give us your take to which you think is better.

Dude, this show is literally a metaphor for the most outrageous but still possible conspiracy theories of the world ever... the idea being that there is a natural power within all of us, and in the world, that we have been cut off from, after a devastation event, and through history we have been part of rebuilding, but in a way that allows someone to control the power we all work together to cultivate, which is a power very different from the one we have been cut off from, but due to our lack of memory of that original power, we are content with what we built, not knowing that it can be ripped away, because its a manufactured power (like making electricity from gas or nuclear instead of being able to harness the natural energies of the world, using a tractor to build a pyramid instead of our minds, bodies and voices. Its like the father is a metaphor for the illuminati, and ed and al's real father has also been alive long enough to witness all this, as if he represents the commoners ancestors. - Captain Buccaneer (the guy with the mowhawk) pointed a gun at Ed to get him to help because he picked up on the fact that Sloth was somehow related to the stuff Ed and Al couldn't say. It gave them a reason to have to follow orders when they were hesitant to fight Sloth outright.
- Captain Buccaneer is also a lower rank than Major, so yeah... he pointed a gun at a superior officer xD

I love this story, so I love people learning all the ins and outs of it :) I'm sorry to hear some people are expecting you to catch everything. Of course there will be things missed on a first watch! That's why we, the commenters, can (politely, I hope) catch you up on what might have been missed that doesn't affect future episode reactions.
- Kimblee's actions in Ishval are well-known, so Major Miles, seeing him in the hospital, already has a huge dislike for the guy. Then Kimblee, who is bedridden with a major wound to the stomach, is trying to tell Miles to leave "the Ishvalen" to him. Miles basically told him what he thought of him while showing that he's also Ishvalen xD And, fair enough, it would be wrong for Briggs to ignore a serial killer roaming loose on their territory just to avoid hurting Kimblee's pride. Kimblee's seen as another person from cushy-central who doesn't understand the perils of the Northern border and that they don't have the luxury of letting serial killers run loose while Drachma could decide to throw the non-aggression pact away and attack at any moment.

Think back to what Father said to Hoenheim within his dream. True it was just Hoenheim's dream and Father wasn't really there but they clearly know one another and their motives enough to make that conversation's contents relevant. Father looks at humans as a resource. Envy made the comparison of asking Ed if he showed remorse when throwing a log on a fire. And then you have Mei's understanding of alchahestry and how she feels like the energy on Amestris is like a bunch of people squirming around beneath the ground. Ed also states in this episode what the purpose of a circle in Alchemy is, being that it is used to contain the power of a transmutation. It is all energy in one form or another. An energy Father can clearly control given how he was able to turn off the Alchemy in all of Central. Alchemy can work in the way that Doctor Marcoh explained to Mei and it is likely how it did function before Amestris was founded, but remember, according to the legend, it would have been Father who came from the East to teach the art of Alchemy. If he has been the sole origin for it in the West then it was only ever his version of the teaching that would be known. It'd be easy to tell people the energy for transmutation came from the flow of tectonic movement and volcanic activity in the earth, while actually teaching people to tap into something else entirely, in essence fooling them.
The energy that Amestris actually utilizes for its alchemy comes from the souls of the countless people who have died from its military conquest.
If you can actually wait 2 days in between episodes after ep 45 without binging I will think you are crazy

The guns were because the Briggs staff grokked that Ed was stubborn under orders from higher up. A show of coercion at gunpoint was meant to let him participate without defying prior orders to conceal facts about things going on at high levels of the military.

No mather the time I see this episode whenever they show us Ice Alchemist from episode 1 and his explanation, I got chills on my back
I remember some other animes and movies using the fuel as a form of torture in the cold.
I forgot the title but there was even one scene where the man being interrogated was given a lighter so he had 3 choices , talk , freeze to death or light himself on fire.
the purpose of the giant transmutation circle was hinted at back when Ed, Ling, and Envy were inside Gluttoney's stomach. I won't say what it is cause I'm pretty sure they explain it outright in a later episode. Also, you're correct in assuming that Father controls alchemy in Amestris. The reason Scar and Mei could perform their alchemy when Ed and Al couldn't is because Mei uses Alkahestry and Scar uses a combination of both alchemy and alkahestry.

Don't you just absolutely love the art of FMA-B? I mean, every scene, every composition, every camera angle, even closeups and character movements are meticulously planned to give the best experience of every second of watching. Lots of other popular anime in comparison look like kids' drawings, with characters just plopped on the screen. FMA-B is a masterclass in how to perfectly animate a perfect story.
I watched this show every week when it first came out on Adult Swim back in 09. I would record the episodes, but then I'd still wake up early to watch it and then I'd rewatch it throughout the week as I waited for the next episode lol

I had been looking forward to this episode so much! I am a fervent fan of Olivier and the most awesome elevator entrance ever.
Get ready for many frustrated moments when you don't want the episodes to end as the series keeps going. The writing is that good and that well paced.
And in answer to why they were pointing guns at Ed during the Sloth fight- it was because they needed to keep up at least an appearance of 'forcing' Ed and Al to help them. That keeps the bad guys from seeing the boys voluntarily acting against them, and pulling the trigger on their threats to Winry as a result. And- its Briggs. They really didn't trust these new, powerful strangers who showed up and were clearly involved with an attack on the base.

"Why are they threatening him?" Because that way he isn't culpable. They know he would help, but if he did he might suffer consequences. Edward made it clear there was stuff he couldn't say, basically confirming that he is being threatened in some way, or someone has some power over him. If Edward were to help Olivier that might piss off the people who have power over Edward. Therefore, they point a gun at him, that way Edward can say "I had no choice".

30:22 I watched it as it was coming out (it was subtitled and released nearly simultaneously with the Japanese airing; English dub came a year later). Well, I did discover it partway through. But I quickly binged it until I was up to date. Then, yes, I had to wait a week for each new episode. Two weeks in at least one case (maybe two; I honestly don't remember how far into the run I started watching), as they took a week off on two occasions. Just let me say: someone who has the ability to watch episodes whenever he wants probably shouldn't be complaining too bitterly about cliffhangers. I mean, I know you have some sort of schedule to work to, and you probably don't want to/can't spend _all_ your time watching stuff anyway, but still...

They aimed guns at Ed so if someone was watching Ed would be able to say they forced him to help. Now you know about the nationwide transmutation circle, so it's only fair some other pieces get put in the right places. Alchemy draws power from tectonic movement, alchehistry uses the dragons pulse, May mentioned that it feels like all of amestris is being held up by a mass of people squirming in the ground and that that feeling is the worst in central specifically near Father, we at this point know Father is orchestrating some form of plan to make a huge philosophers stone out of amestris, we also know he already possess several enormous stones. The weird feeling May is referring to is likely a stone used by Father to alter the tectonic motion under amestris to prevent damage to the absolutely massive network of very precise tunnels he's spent a very very long time digging, this would also explain how he has control over Alchemy (no tectonic movement = no power for transmutation), as for the rest of his plan Ed actually unknowingly told us it while he was talking to envy inside of gluteny over the pieces of the ruins of Xerxes. "In essence this translates to I will strike God to earth and become a perfect being" though the plan is still very vague and we have no idea what that actually means yet.
The cliff hangers feel worse because the show gets so much more interesting in the 2nd half

hey this has other version the fullmetal alchemist without brotherhood which was released first before the brotherhood in 2003. it has a different ending and main villain. the manga was not finish when the first fullmetal was released, so instead of making a filler episode they are forced to make a different story on the half part of the anime. I hope you can also watch and give us your take to which you think is better.

Dude, this show is literally a metaphor for the most outrageous but still possible conspiracy theories of the world ever... the idea being that there is a natural power within all of us, and in the world, that we have been cut off from, after a devastation event, and through history we have been part of rebuilding, but in a way that allows someone to control the power we all work together to cultivate, which is a power very different from the one we have been cut off from, but due to our lack of memory of that original power, we are content with what we built, not knowing that it can be ripped away, because its a manufactured power (like making electricity from gas or nuclear instead of being able to harness the natural energies of the world, using a tractor to build a pyramid instead of our minds, bodies and voices. Its like the father is a metaphor for the illuminati, and ed and al's real father has also been alive long enough to witness all this, as if he represents the commoners ancestors. Both having great wisdom, but being opposed to each other, but they look so much alike, they are seem to be the same person.
It bothers me how many shows make this kind of metaphor, and many far more obviosly.
