    I am actually white, but my name is seen as a "Black name". I have walked into interviews where they literally said they were expecting a Black person. It has ABSOLUTELY affected my job search at every level.

    I've worked for a company that had almost no black people in management. The employer in question was located near a historically black college in a city that has a 35% black population. Nearly all of the employees at the bottom working as temps were black....

    I think there is something here. I have worked in Tech in the Bay Area and I’ve noticed at some of my prior jobs. Just walking past conference rooms full of white men with the exception of few minorities and women. I challenge these huge tech companies to release their hiring data relating to race and gender...

    When group A commits violent crimes at a rate 6x higher than group B and the only known or distinguishing information is the group an applicant belongs to who would you hire? The applicant from group A or the applicant from group B? The first applicant could be amazing and the 2nd could be terrible but when there's nothing extra to go off of you are actively choosing a losing bet.

    • @tann_man
      @tann_man ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The solution?
      Allow or even facilitate for more granular information. You lose out on catching exceptions to the rule without individual information. Its always more advantageous to make decisions concerning individuals based on their individual data rather than relying on generalized group statistics.

    I absolutely think this video is interesting... I 100% believe some employers are racist. That being said of course an employer is going to choose a person with a squeaky clean background over a felon... Also yes you can teach these applicants to answer questions the same but you cannot teach them all to act the same. Thought impossible, I Would love to see videos of their interviews to see if some people come off as more likable, etc.
    Edit: We also need to see variables on this study... How many applicants, what names were used, how they choose these names.

    I was working on a GED and was scared I may not pass so I thought I might get a smart friend help me to help me cheat to ass so I asked him , His response was, would you be okay with knowing you really didn't achieve this on your own like your not smart enough to do it, just like people who get jobs because they are Black as if blacks were no smart enough. He help me study and I passed on my own And yes I felt proud of myself. By the way my friend was black . Later I asked him about this reverse discrimination thing. He said he refused to apply at a job the gave him special treatment or consideration because he was black as if he was not smart enough. Then he said just like I said to you Todd if I helped you cheat to pass you would never know if you could do it on your own. so he wasn't taking the easy hand out job because he was black because he would always wonder if his color got him the job or his ability. Then He said it's a matter of Integrity and pride

      I doubt that doing this would actually effect your chances of getting hired. Companies ask for your race in those surveys for legal and statical reasons. It's proves that they are accepting application from people of all different races. And it shows the demographic information of the applicants. In most cases that data isn't looked at during the hiring process. And it is usually separated from the job application.

    it all boils down to the perceived language skills. if you can not communicate with your customers you have to hire those that can. ebonics is a problem it is holding down black America like a chain around its neck. the sad thing is black America thinks its culture and in reality, its programming is designed to keep them separated.

    • @AntiMasonic93
      @AntiMasonic93 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Some White and Latino employers deny Black applicants before even hearing their voices though. At this point, they don't know what the Black person's voice sounds like e.g. speaking ebonics or good English.

    • @incubus_the_man
      @incubus_the_man 3 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I don't think that's just it. I know that many African Americans can speak proper American English and many code switch to match the environment they're in.. Try speaking to random young black people or watch TH-cam videos and you'll notice that they do tend to speak clearly. They usually tend to speak more slang to their peers than random people. The real problem is that they just aren't being hired regardless of their past.
      Black college graduates tend to be twice as likely to become unemployed after graduating from college.

      I’m so sick of this crap. If you are applying for a editorial position maybe however there are many sweeping generality writers who do not understand the problem in details nor do they understand specialized vocabulary, acronyms, abbreviations, jargon and etc.
      Personally I rather have someone who get the analysis correct but write in slang vs. prefect second class British English grammar known as American English who writes in overall picture. WHAT YOU WRITE SHOWS WHETHERS YOU TRULY ARE AN EXPERT.

      Lastly in the modern world there are many ways to communicate, graphs, flow chart, systems, education videos and pictures so only using American English characters just show how inferior your organization in making operating manuals. Feels free to steal from multinationals operating all over the world their manuals are much more superior with quality don't waste my time information. They even have computer based training, advance expert system, kiosks, and etc.

    Interesting information, I'm going to be hiring about 20 part timers across the country as in expanding my business.
    In the end, I'm going to go with my gut instinct as that's served me well so far, however I'm not going to factor race into that for the most part. Obviously if they have a silly sounding name its probably a sign of another culture. But providing they are culturally the same, & from a personality level I could be their friend then I dont care what they are. I just want good English speakers who have the same values as myself. Bonus points if their Christian or Jewish.
