Poor Steven! His family is falling apart because of his Mom's lies. It was bad enough that Steven thought the gems kind of blamed him for his Mom being gone BUT NOW that he knows his Mom was Pink Diamond he must be feeling a thousands times worse! That poor sweet child. He is probably going to think the gems hate him BECAUSE HE'S A DIAMOND! Remember the episode Storm in the Room? Where Steven asked to see his Mom and he got angry. Steven: "I finally know the truth! I know what you are! YOU'RE A LIAR! I thought you never wanted to hurt anyone but you hurt everyone! Did you just make me so you could hide from your mistakes! Is that all I'm here for?" Seriously, we need to worry about Steven. His mental health can mot take much more of his Mom's past bullshit.

Until Greg, Rose had a very simplistic understanding of love. It was a fun, beautiful game, but she never fully experienced it until Greg. She actually did always return to Pearl for five thousand years. But Pearl was never her equal, because Pearl never showed anything put utter devotion to her. She never challenged Rose, so their relationship was static. And then things changed. Rose fell in love with Greg, a deeper love. As much as we idealize monogamy and the concept of soul mates, love doesn’t last forever, especially if the two people don’t build upon it. And Rose and Pearl weren’t soul mates, their relationship was unequal. It’s sad that she finally left Pearl, but she could never truly give Pearl the level of love that Pearl deserved. It was painful, but it was time.
It brings a lot of clarity when she stumbles over herself in a previous episode, too. When she said "Back when I served...homeworld." It makes sense now! She stopped serving homeworld, but not her diamond! WHOA
And perhaps she still was. When Pink commanded her to never speak of this again, she said it was her last order as a Diamond. When Bismuth asked Pearl who she belonged to, she said “no one!” Perhaps following the Rose Quartz persona was her choice. Devoting herself to her cause, her choice. I’m curious how much of pearl’s devotion programmed into her, and how much was given freely. She clearly adored her Diamond. How much was genuine. And, if it was programmed, is it any less real? If you feel something, even if it was by design, then you feel it.
I honestly agree with Sapphire at the moment. All of "Rose's" actions thus far have been mostly impulsive and childish. Sure, some good things have come from it, but her ideas definitely weren't well thought out nor do they seem like the best choices.
Magic Ocean I understand that some good came out of it, but there could've been a better option. An option that didn't lead to the shattering and turmoil of so many gems.

She was betrayed, lied to, her biggest enemy was her biggest role model. How can you cope with that? The gem who protected you, made you feel welcome and safe and loved, who taught you good from bad, turning out to be one of the very people you fought again, who you hated. Who you believed to be evil. How, do you come back from that?
Remember during The Trial Steven showed his gem to Yellow and Blue Diamond and Yellow made a surprised/interested expression? I always thought that specific scene was strange until now. Yellow may have recognized Steven's gem as a diamond but since Pink Diamond had her gem sideways, she wasn't completely sure.
I think Sapphire is so mad because she finally knows why her future vision has been warped and changed. It wasn’t Ruby, it was that Rose was hiding an identity.

Now she finds out her past is unreliable too. As a being who was made to understand these things and suddenly she dosent, she's in complete distress.

Honestly, it was never stated that they can't change their gems, and besides, her color stayed the same, that rule is still there, and of course it doesn't add up, this isn't the end of the series, nor is it close to it. Plus, pink diamond wanted freedom, she was tired of being bossed around, she was *rebellious* this theory wasnt just obvious, it was flat out in our face the entire time and we did nothing but find ways to make it unlikely, on jungle moon I KNEW pink reminded me of rose I just couldn't figure out *how* Plus it's not strange that they can rotate their gems, like think, peridot has powers she didn't know she had and shes been alive and active for years and years, an entire era of gems were lied to so they would suppress their powers and not rebel again. And that explains why the crystal gems all seemed to be able to do things other gems can't. They began to act different, with less purpose and more freedom. As a result discovering knew things, just like pink changing her diamond, all you have to do is look from a different *angle* A new mindset, nobody saw it, because no one could open their minds. This entire show has had a moral. And I love even more that it's one not everyone would agree with because that make *another* moral plus the way we've all reacted and the way sapphire reacted is *another* moral, there are no bad people, just bad deeds. Too much freedom has problems, so does too much order. And when you decide to settle with violence, don't take it too far. Plus there just isn't another way to justify the zoo, or why pink was having trouble annihilating the humans, because she loved them

Like this whole thing, I'd be in Ruby's side, I'd smack everyone and be all "she was *not* perfect, it's okay to be mad that she lied, but *what* would have changed? If the diamonds knew who she was, they'd have just taken her off the planet an blew it up behind them Everyone would be dead. They are alive because of what she did. They are where they are because of her deception. And they would definitely be worse off. No one before pink had the ability to challenge the rest of the diamonds. Pink diamond was the only one able to do it, nobody but the other three diamonds could have done it. And as we see, she was tougher than they thought. Pink not only saved earth, she did what nobody else had been able to do. She is still a hero. But now, she's a person. She got caught up, over her head, like any of us would be been likely to do. She asked for too much, and in the process of asking for too much, saved millions of lives.

Theory about this: Sapphire gets more angry than Ruby because she is a long-term thinker. In Mindful Education, we see that Sapphire gets distracted by several thoughts and possibilities for the future that she can see, so much that she has trouble focusing on the present. Meanwhile, Ruby can get annoyed by a single problem that she has in the present and then moves past it. This is also seen in Keystone Motel, where Sapphire has already witnessed the future where she and Ruby forgive Pearl but Ruby gets so angry about this current problem of hers that she wants to react properly before forgiving her. A parallel is drawn between Ruby and Sapphire and Connie and Steven, respectively. Like Ruby, Connie is distracted by one single thing that is troubling her, while Steven tries to avoid thinking about his problems until they pile up in his mind and hit him all at once like at the climax of the episode. In this situation, Ruby maybe thinks "that's in the past, the fact that Rose lied to us doesn't take away the positive things about her" but Sapphire thinks about all the implications of this and feels very confused and betrayed. It's possible that it's more personal for Sapphire since she had a closer relationship to The Great Diamond Authority before, when she held an important position in Blue Diamond's court and knew her personally, which she of course remembers well. It could be related to her Future Vision too, that she is upset she never foresaw this. She is used to always knowing everything in advance but now she feels lost.
IMO, Ruby's the type of person who gets mad over little things and quickly cools down after that. As for Sapphire, that's a lot to take in. Don't you think?
I don't see Rose Quartz as a facade necessarily- Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but the fact that Pink Diamond chose to remain in the Rose Quartz form for thousands of years after the war, I doubt was just to keep Garnet and Amethyst out of the loop. Pink Diamond made a conscious choice to remain as Rose Quartz, and I believe it was because that was who she wanted to identify as. She wanted to be Rose Quartz. Just as Greg DeMayo left his family and name behind to become Greg Universe, Pink Diamond left her family and name behind to become Rose Quartz.
They both left everything behind, to start something new. That is Steven and he is their truth! He marches on for both of them and fixing problems one step at a time instead of hiding it in all by secrets.
As earth shattering as this is... when you think about it Greg, seems to be a diamond magnet, pink diamond, and he emotionally connected to blue diamond, in less than thirty seconds, giant gems seem to love Greg.
Shall we make this a Danganronpa and say that Pink Diamond wanted the lie to be the truth? That she didnt want to have control and wanted to be able to express herself as just herself? Because she was struggling to find a proper identity as a Diamond, just at Jungle Moon where her worth as a Diamond felt less and so she asked for a colony in the first place. But that one colony she was given gave her a way to be herself and so she manipulated her way to that autonomy.

I honestly feel like Sapphire's reaction to the reveal has more to do with the shattering of her worldview. Keep in mind that Sapphire was a high ranking gem within Blue Daimond's court and betrayed her Daimond, running away from her purpose and use for a lowly Ruby solider and continued that path with the guidance of Rose Quartz. By the time The Answer rolled out Rose Quartz was a known criminal to Homeworld and was seen as an average gem who broke out of the mold and defined her own place in the universe. Something a sapphire with future vision couldn't possible do as easily since they have future vision but Ruby made her see she could change and Rose Quarts made her see she could change and so she did. Now imagine finding out, after losing most of your friends and your status and betraying your Daimond and purpose that your own change was just a part of a scheme by another Daimond to essentially repurpose you to their own court. How would any of the choices Sapphire made have any value in that scenario?

Rose's Scabbard Episode: Rose said; "My Pearl" to Pearl before the war. Human Zoo Arc: The Human Zoo actually had a lot of detail put into it, and so much care was shown for the Humans. Rose's Extraordinary Powers: A Diamond Attack proof shield, healing, and dream-hopping; a bit OP for a Non-Diamond. Too... Much... Foreshadowing: There have been several times where Steven had the Diamond symbol appear on him. _Three Gems and a Baby: Greg leaves one button on Steven's jammies unbuttoned, and it leaves a Diamond Shape._ _Stevonnie: When they fuse; Connie's shirt and Steven's Star create a Diamond symbol._ (It actually makes sense. I wouldn't have wanted to believe it, even a week ago, but it actually makes sense.)
I don't blame Rose/Pink. She did bad things but realized they were wrong and stopped doing the bad things. She's not an angel but who is, really? She started the Rebellion as damage control, she couldn't undo her past mistakes but she could make sure as much of Earth was saved as possible. The Earth would have been destroyed if she didn't. Besides, she is a leader, warrior and politician. In those roles it can be necessary to lie and do things you don't like for the greater good. It's better to focus on who someone is right now than who they were in the past. Rose Quartz has always reminded me of Dumbledore, and never more than now. She has a similar leadership position, they're both loved and admired by their followers and initially seem pretty much perfect but then we learn that they were deeply flawed and made many mistakes and questionable decisions, and that the younger main character, despite always having looked up to them, is in some ways better and wiser than the older person. Just like Harry did I still like Dumbledore for the good things he did though, and I have the same attitude to Rose/Pink. Rose Quartz isn't a lie, she's just not the whole truth. Just like how you don't show the same sides of yourself to everyone you know but that doesn't mean one of the sides is less real or "you" than another. Also, Pink Diamond saved Earth from the other Diamonds, she was one of them but she stood up to them and defied them, which shows she was very brave and a genuinely good person who did the best out of a horrible situation. As Rose Quartz, she could allow Gems to be free and live how they wanted on Earth. I think Steven will take this revelation personally since it's his own mother and not only did she not make sure he learned the truth, but Pearl has been lying to him/withholding information from him as well. We'll see what happens after the initial shock, but as far as I'm concerned, the new episodes couldn't come sooner!!
Except she never stopped lying, to everyone. She lied to greg, lied to the crystal gems about bismuth, lied to bismuth about why she didn't want the breaking point around, got lapis imprisoned for thousands of years, hurt jasper, and how does it all end. She decides rather than tell those closest to her the truth, to have a baby and leave all her problems to him.
Like Rebecca Sugar said, this is something all the Crystal Gems will have to work through and process. Maybe Greg too if he finds out. But I understand why she lied. If she fronted the Rebellion without shedding the Pink Diamond identity, it would be harder to get people to trust her. She thought it was safest to become someone else to accomplish her goal of saving the Earth, because in a war of such importance your troops can't have any doubts about you if they're going to succeed. Pink Diamond's goal was to save Earth from Homeworld's colonization and then continue to protect it. Even if she revealed her true identity after Homeworld had left, one of the Crystal Gems might rebel and go to Homeworld to tell them the truth, which would likely lead to the Diamonds returning to Earth, confronting her, possibly punishing her, and possibly hurting the planet. Should she have taken that risk anyway? Maybe. For someone like Garnet, it's hurtful to learn that the person you looked up to didn't have complete faith in you. But I don't think Pink Diamond wanted to do anything that could put Earth in danger. Pearl knew the truth and she was horrified when she found out Homeworld had started showing interest in the planet again, I'm sure Rose would feel the same way if she was there, and that was what she tried to prevent by lying. Essentially, she wanted to avoid someone doing what Lapis did when Steven released her from the mirror. It's possible that someone might unbubble Bismuth now and tell her the truth. If so it will be interesting to see how she reacts, to let us know if Pink Diamond's fear was justified or not. Like I said, she is not perfect but I believe she's still a good person, fundamentally. I think she felt horrible about many of the things she did both in the past and in the present to avoid blowing her cover. But even though Garnet didn't know the truth at the time, I think she hit the nail on the head when she said to Steven: "She didn't always do what was best for her. But she always did what was best for Earth." In other words Pink Diamond seems to have had a utilitarian philosophy, she hurt the Crystal Gems and herself to protect a larger number of life forms on Earth. I don't understand all the things you say, some of the accusations don't seem fair. I don't understand how she "hurt Jasper" for example, at least not more than any other Gem that was made for her. It's implied that Jasper was created after Pink Diamond was "shattered", even, and is only loyal to her by virtue of knowing she was the Diamond she was made for. And Pink Diamond wasn't involved with Lapis' imprisonment, in Same Old World we learn that she was captured during the war because she was mistakenly believed to be a Crystal Gem and imprisoned in the mirror by Homeworld soldiers. Then Pearl found the mirror at the Galaxy Warp, in the 80s from the looks of it. These are things Pink Diamond is only indirectly responsible for because of starting the Rebellion, but do you think her starting the Rebellion was a bad thing in itself? Regardless of what she did there would be negative consequences to her actions. I think this also points to her having a utilitarian philosophy, but she probably didn't know the full extent of Gems being hurt by her decision or in what ways, she could only suspect it. Lastly, your statement that Rose only had Steven to run away from her problems. This is exactly what Steven accused her of in Storm in the Room, but now we know she had way more problems than we thought previously. The version of Rose Steven imagines in his room answers: "In the tape I left you, I told you I how much I wanted to have you and let you exist. Do you think what I said to you in the tape was a lie?" I don't think it was. I don't think Rose is so scheming that she would pretend to fall in love with Greg and have a baby with him just for this purpose. Besides, if that were the case, why wouldn't she have done it earlier? It makes no sense. Especially since no new threats from Homeworld had surfaced at the time. And in Lion 4: Straight to Video, Steven suspects Rose had him to fulfill some greater destiny, but ultimately arrives at the conclusion that she just wanted to have a human son who would have a normal life. Greg says Rose just wanted Steven to be her child. Guide to the Crystal Gems says Rose Quartz wanted to experience birth. She was fascinated by humans. Maybe it wasn't more complicated than that. So instead of scheming, maybe what we really should be accusing Rose/Pink Diamond of being is naive. She should have anticipated both that Homeworld would retaliate after she saved Earth (by Corrupting the remaining Gems on the planet, which destroyed the vast majority of her allies) and that Earth wasn't safe from all future alien attacks and Steven would end up having to deal with her mistakes. He is a good-hearted, responsible boy, why wouldn't he take that on himself, just because she wouldn't want him to? In Jungle Moon, she seems very immature (similar to young Steven), so I think this is a valid interpretation, that Pink Diamond was somewhat childlike and maybe overly optimistic in some situations. It's hard to say at this point if Pink Diamond's decision not to reveal herself to Homeworld was out of cowardice or not. Who knows, maybe Steven will have more courage than she did and tell the other Diamonds the truth, and maybe it will turn out to be the right call. But either way I think this was the right option for the series because of the interesting possibilities for the future the reveal opens up. Sorry about this novel-length comment, but I want to say one more thing. I think the Dumbledore comparison I made is a good one. In the last book it's revealed that Dumbledore used to believe Muggles were inferior and was extremely power-hungry. When he got older, he redeemed himself and became a champion of Muggle rights, as well as the most prominent opponent of Voldemort, leading the resistance group against him. After the prophecy about Harry is revealed, Dumbledore realizes he has to do a bad thing for the Greater Good: Make sure Harry has a safe upbringing, but eventually prepare him for facing death at the hands of Voldemort, so that he can be stopped and the Wizarding World can be saved. Snape calls this "raising him like a pig for slaughter". Up to this point, Dumbledore has been one of Harry's greatest mentors who always tells him words of wisdom and a father figure for him as well. Dumbledore did his best not to get attached to Harry because he knew what his destiny would have to be. This was why he avoided him in the 5th book, for instance. But Dumbledore was only human and started caring about Harry on a personal level regardless. Meaning that despite Dumbledore's deceit, his love for Harry was genuine. Harry understood this and forgave him, not excusing his failings but acknowledging and admiring him for the good things he did and represented. In the last books Dumbledore realizes that Harry is better than him and understands certain things better than he did. It's the same with Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond and Steven, like Bismuth even says. Parents often think they learn things from their children, it's a common thing. Some Harry Potter fans hate Dumbledore and never forgave him. I did though, and I forgive Rose too. But no one is obliged to forgive either character. You should just acknowledge that they're complicated people and everything about them isn't black and white, regardless of your stance on the matter.

When Steven transformed his fingers into cats he had problems turning back after he stayed in that form for too long. So could it be that after transforming into Rose Quarts for too long Pink Diamond was unable to change back and that is the reason why Stevens gems also is in the same form Roses while he normaly supposed to have Pink Diamonds Gem?

I think people saying that now we have to hate rose bc she lied, it's absurd. We all knew that Rose wasn't perfect , that she had a lot of flaws and that's what the creators wanted to show us. I think Rose did all this was bc she actually believed that it was the best choice. Like any other human being : we make our choices and we make mistakes.
That would be okay if something good came out of it, but no. During the war? Fine. It happened. Grieve and move on, but what about after the war? What kept her from telling 3 people? What kept her from telling Steven?

He didn’t really care if she was Pink Diamond or Rose Quartz, he just accepted her who she is at that moment in time & grew with her. Pink Diamond been wanting that approval for a loooooong time.
Oreo1187 Rose hardly ever thought about the consequesnces of anything. She only ever really did what she wanted. Of course, some good came from it, but to say she only did what she thought was best is a bit of a stretch considering the "isn't it exciting?" "I want a colony!". All of the childish behavior and rushing into things (im sure her knowledge on humans wasnt the best either due to her treatment of baby sour cream) leads me to believe that she was more impulsive than anything
And we still don't have the whole story. What changed between her wanting a colony and getting a colony? What led her to the best/worst decision she would ever make? Why did she believe sincerely that neither Blue nor Yellow Diamobd cared for her wellbeing?
If Steven can go into pearls gem does that mean he can go into any of the crystal gems gemstone and if so how would that work for a fusion such as garnet considering she has 2 gemstones, also does this mean Steven can send one of the crystal gems into his gemstone and have them find Pink diamond or as we all formerly know her as "Rose Quartz".

I just want them to acknowledge that pink diamond effed up in so many ways and rose ain’t shiznit but I do want them to kind of forgive because when you don’t it hurts you more. I'm really interested in what happens next. Sapphire is hurt af. And i think Pink was able to stay in the form of Rose because she was poofed, then she reformed to look that way. She saw herself as Rose so she reformed as such. She didn't really shapeshift in the same sense as Amethyst, Pearl and Garnet did, so she didn't struggle to keep the form. Or maybe Diamonds are just that powerful that they can shapeshift into a form for as long as they wish. Though i have a question that's not really related to this. If every Gem comes out knowing their purpose, (i remember amethyst said she came out really confused or something?) why didn't Amethyst know about Pink Diamond before the crystal gems told her about her? Cuz if i remember correctly she had no knowledge of her before they told her and Steven(?). Is it because she's defective and she came out not knowing her purpose?
It’s interesting that Ruby’s being the calmer one and that Sapphire’s the one that’s pissed this time. I really like how their showing us that these two are more than just fire and ice.
I also see a few comments talking about how if Blue found out she would be emotional and want to protect Steven to some degree, but I think the opposite would be true. Yellow, as she's been suppressing her emotions and has probably been feeling guilty for such a long long time, might be more empathetic and, "It wasn't my fault." I think that Blue, as seen in the new episode, would react more like, "Wtf you could have just told me you caused me all this pain just wtf?! *Cri*"
This is the grey area arena of the show. The thought I keep coming back to is a lie or a story is truth to the people who believe. The liar or storyteller, even when under a different persona, is still themselves to a certain extent. Now, I have to figure out, along with the Gems, how this scenario can apply, if at all.
I think they'll forgive Rose/Pink. They just need time to sort their feelings and validate them too. It would be way weirder if everyone was ok with this reveal on the CG team. Ultimately, Pink wanted a different life for herself and gemkind. That still means something, even in the betrayal and lies. At least that's what I'm telling myself, haha.

Rose- sorry, Pink Diamond was 'able to hold form' because she was poofed and changed her appearance and basic shape when she formed again. She didn't shape-shift. Pink and Rose arn't that much different in height and all she had to do was make herself a lil fatter and her hair longer. Plus she's a diamond, of course she can do it better then Amethyst.
aris ellis Makes sense to me. I think she just turned fatter because she shortened her height and the mass had to go somewhere as seen in Reformed where Amethyst created one huge muscular arm and the other one ended up as a noodle limb, so a Gem probably only has this much mass to work with. And hair obviously is no problem since Amethyst was shown in a short-haired form when she first saw Greg, but has long hair now.
Ok I'mma just say it. I NEED White Diamond to be a formidable villain now. Not want. NEED. Since now Yellow and Blue are practically Steven's aunts/grandmas, they'll lose their villain status quick. That leak doesn't seem too far away now, does it? I want White Diamond to absolutely ABHOR Pink Diamond. I want her to be absolutely FLAMING at what Pink has done with the colony, and the Earth after the rebellion ended. I want White to ROAR with fury when she finds out that the weakling of her family, the black sheep that she may or may not have loved in the past, has caused this much pain to all of her subjects and sisters/daughters for thousands of years, and left all of the mess to a 14 year old measly human boy. I want her to take revenge for getting deceived by the off-color Diamond, by the one that came out wrong, the disgrace to the Diamond name and status that didn't have a true place in the throne besides her in the first place. Let's hope Steven Universe becomes Game of Thrones after this point. :)
I would love that, but...after this and the knowledge that, as you pointed out, Yellow and Blue Diamond are gonna be on Team Crystal Gem, I have to believe that White Diamond is going to be like all the other so-called 'villains' we've seen, in that, she won't be. Steven will sing a song and everyone will hold hands under the hippie tree and it'll be the most depressing end to a show ever. Yeah...I'm pretty much just expecting some lazy grandma for White. Maybe if I keep expectations low, I might actually get something that resembles the tight, interconnected, sensible story we had before this.

I'm really glad that I'm not the only person who isn't that excited about, what essentially is a horrible story line or at least, the horrible conclusion of what was a very good story line. And from what we've seen so far, there's no way WD is going to be the big bad that we've all been waiting for. I'm not saying that cause I'm gonna stop watching - we'll hold the jury out on that - but that's why I'm so disappointed by this. There was such a good story line, with realism to it - the chains of command and having to make decisions you didn't want or didn't like (Bismuth), the survivor's guilt of war and knowing that while you managed to keep standing, you didn't really 'win' per se, the lesson that not everyone is going to want to be your friend or wants your help and that sometimes, you just need to bail on the 'lets be friends' and double up on the 'I'm gonna kick your ass', the lesson of Steven being _Steven_ and not Rose and that he's his own person... All of that. Just down the drain. And this was apparently in the works for five years! That's even worse! Five years and _this_ is your big reveal/twist/magnum opus. This. *face palm followed by sad shake of the head*

In the Homestuck fandom, the situation where the plot fucks up so badly like this is called a "doomed timeline". This is it, forget Steven and the Stevens, the entire show is a doomed timeline, where eventually everyone is going to be murdered by the Sneople.
Maybe the reason Pink diamond was able to stay as Rose because either: 1: It shows daimonds can stay a different form MUCH longer than any other gem. or 2: When Pink reformed after poofing, she came back in the form of Rose, so she didn't have to worry about tiring out and forming back into Pink/ damaging her form. ALSO, a gems form/age depends on their mental state. So if Pink's mental state was wanting to stay Rose, then I think that could also be a reason why ??
Or she could have simply taken breaks in her shapeshifting? We already know there were places in the world that Rose would spend time at with none of the other gems around her at the time.
Remember in all of Greg's flashback, Rose offten go to some distance place? In thay time, she can just reform to Pink Diamond if she shapeshiff for too long.

I expect fallout, but I think they should learn to move passed it. They lived and worked with Rose Quartz for 5 thousand years. At some point, a mask is no longer a costume, it’s reality. The positive things she espoused, the life changing inspiration that allowed Garnet to be who she really wanted to be, was real. Every first person account of Rose, tells the story of a woman who wanted to break free of rigid predefined roles and have choice, to pursue happiness. Also consider that Pink tried to pull out of the colonization and leave the Earth and the rebels alone, several times, but the other Diamonds wouldn’t allow it. Blue stated her “excuses”. She didn’t want to destroy the organic life. She didn’t want to dismantle the human cities. After those excuses failed, she created Rose and the rebellion, as another attempt to make the colony untenable. And it didn’t work. So she chose to give up being a Diamond, to give up on going home, to stay on Earth. Her intent with the shattering ploy was to get Homeworld to give up, to let the Crystal Gems to have freedom. She just didn’t anticipate the Diamond retaliation. Her motives were sound. Her methodology was questionable. She had a had a situation she didn’t know how to get out of, and her choices didn’t go as planned. I put most of the blame on those that pulled the trigger. Rose advocated not killing their enemies, Homeworld gleefully shattered thousands. Homeworld experimented with shards. Homeworld caused corruption. Pinks failure, was in not anticipating their cruelty, and being unable to counter it. Her failing was naïveté, not malice. And I don’t think that erases the good she tried to accomplish. It doesn’t erase the woman they knew for millennia.
Good thoughts. You can tell she didn't expect any retaliation because she genuinely thought Yellow and Blue didn't care about her at all, def not enough to bear a grudge against an entire planet and still be grieving for her after all this time.

They didn't listen because she was just complaining, maybe if she tried to convince the other diamonds that the Earth was worthy of being preserved everything could've turned our differently. And all the things homeworld did, although unnecessary, were indirect consequences of the gem war that Pink started as Rose.
@Swirlstar. I agree. I think, in Pink’s mind, the other Diamonds didn’t care about her. They treated her like an inferior, they were cold and dismissive, even Blue in that flashback. She was wrong, or course, they cared to the point of grieving for 4000 years. But she didn’t realize it when she planned to “kill” herself. @Miranda. We actually don’t know that, yet. Gem society has a very rigid caste system, very rigid expectations, even a Diamond has their ROLE. Would the Earth been spared if a Diamond rebelled? Would Blue and Yellow accepted her choice not to hollow out the planet and kill everything? Or would hey have claimed she wasn’t prepared for colonization and wrestled control from her? Instead of enshrining her Zoo and reemploying her Gems elsewhere, would they have shattered them all? We don’t have enough context yet. Honesty doesn’t always result in a win.
Does that mean that 1. Steven is actually not only a diamond but related to the others diamonds and that's how he could have visions of the diamonds and also 2. Steven's real name is Steven Diamond Universe Wow

The revelation that Rose Quartz was Pink Diamond all along can cause a potential fallout big enough to split the team apart. Garnet literally fell apart after finding out and Amethyst is completely shocked and in utter disbelief.
Amethyst will probably have the easiest time accepting it though. She wasn't really there when all that Gem War stuff happened and she is the closest to Steven.
My explanation for why pink diamond kept her form as rose is pretty simple in my opinion. Rose Quartz is smaller than Pink Diamond, which means she would go from a higher energy state to a lower one due to the difference in size. In other words, smaller form, less energy used to maintain said form.
Staarrliner49 also, she would be in great trouble if she just proceeded to be pink diamond. probably would be shattered by other diamonds for running away to earth. she had to come up with something so she could live freely and choosing the other indentity was the solution
I mean personally, I refuse to hate Pink/Rose because what else was she supposed to do in regards to saving Earth??? The other Diamonds were forcing her to continue the colonization and therefore the destruction of life on Earth. They refused to listen to her and looked down at her. Basically, she had to choose between Earth/Humans or her own kind. She made a choice, and one side suffered the consequences while the other was spared and saved. I am not saying Pink is some sort of genius savior who did everything right, her lying about everything made a huge mess of it all. But ultimately one side was going to be wiped out by Blue, Yellow and White, and she chose humans over the safety of gems. Selfish yet selfless. Cowardly yet brave. There are elements of both. She is a COMPLEX character, not pure evil

Sure, she'd probably have her entire court on her side, but only because they were obligated to follow their Diamond. The war would be easier, but they would never understand what true freedom is. They'd be risking their lives because it was their duty, not because they believed in the cause.
Exactly! And she doesn't seem to anticipate the Diamonds' retaliation, or at least doesn't anticipate that they'll go as far as they did. She tells Pearl that Blue and Yellow don't care about the colony, it's just hers, which at the very least implies she doesn't think they'll have much investment in it or in trying to recover it. Pink isn't blameless, she still screwed up and her actions directly and indirectly caused a lot of damage, whether she knew what they would cause or not. But I think it's too black-and-white to just consider Pink/Rose either completely innocent or evil and selfish, and SU is all about not being black-and-white and about acknowledging that people are complex. Pink/Rose was stuck between a rock and a hard place - like SU says, there's no such thing as a good war, good people do bad things sometimes. I also think part of Pink/Rose's character arc/development was about growing up and maturing from the 'bratty' Diamond she used to be to a more well-rounded person who could understand, appreciate, and respect the complexities of the people around her. EDIT: Also, there's straight-up no way 'Pink openly rebels against Homeworld' would have been possible. Homeworld would have either subdued her or shattered her. Rebellion against Homeworld undermines the supreme authority of the Diamonds, even if (especially if!) it's by another Diamond. It would be absolutely impermissible.

Long text ahead; TLDR: _PD being killed was always going to end with Earth getting nuked in retaliation. Only an idiot would think otherwise._ _There were other ways to protect Earth outside of lying her ass off and fabricating a huge lie that worsened the situation and reinforced the Diamonds perception of PD being incompetent. She did it for selfish reasons, not to protect anyone._ People seem to keep forgetting that she held more sway over the populace as a diamond. Had it been PD who openly defied the other diamonds, more gems would've joined her cause or at least paid more heed to what she was saying. Instead she gave mealy mouthed excuses and told lies about it being too difficult to colonise the planet, only reinforcing the other diamonds belief that she was incompetent. In the end she was just a manipulative character who got in over her head when all she wanted was to goof off and screw around. I'm not seeing it as her being selfless, even the way the scene is framed made her intentions look purely self serving. She didn't do it to spare the gems or Earth, she wanted to escape the reality of her responsibilities and saying it was for other gems and to protect Earth was an easy way to cover her true intentions. She fabricated a lie that continued to grow. A lie that cost lives. It was all an excuse. The diamonds would not have nuked the planet had PD just nutted up and told them no, explained in no uncertain terms as to why she wasn't going to let them proceed with colonisation, *_made_* them care, acted like the leader she was supposed to be and showed that she was a competent individual. Instead, she played mind games with her friends, her family, her enemies and her followers. She emotionally, psychologically and physically abused Pearl and caused untold harm to countless people. I won't deny that her inexperience played a factor; but her actions are not justifiable. There were plenty of other options she could've taken to gain recognition and support for protecting Earth.

Fernando that dosent really explain anything. Amythyst reformed once with a bigger form, and it was in proportionate and uncomfortablefor her. Reforming with a different outfit or hairstyle isn't the same as changing your entire body, gem placement and basically becoming another person.
But, Rose Quartz was actually a Diamond. A much stronger gem than a Rose Quartz. So I would believe, her poofing and reforming into a much smaller size would be easy for her to keep up with. And as someone else stated, she WANTED to be a Rose Quartz instead of a Diamond. So her form would stick easier, with what she feels. Not trying to be aggressive or anything. I think it makes 100% sense. I am still in shock!
Lunar Robot I mean amethyst reformed larger but pd is taller in her base form while rose is shorter but chubbier, so she could have movwd her mass from height to with and that could have balanced out her body.

To be fair, the other diamonds made it clear they didn't care about organic life. And didn't take PD seriously. Regardless of the choices she made, someone would've been hurt. Whether all of humanity would have been wiped out if she continued leading her colony, or this gem war.

They are one in the same. It doesn't really matter anyway. Calling her Pink Diamond is still calling her Rose Quartz since that's her other identity that she took on for thousands of years.
I'm actually more worried about Pearl. Sure, she was forced by Pink to keep the secret, and we as the audience can accept that, but the other characters? I'm sure there is going to be resentment and maybe even hostility towards her. Also, while this explains Steven's weird flashbacks and connection to the diamonds (ie crying with Blue), think about the total mental breakdown this is going to have on him! He has been through so much, and has had to accept that his mom made a BUNCH of mistakes, but now, he has to swallow the fact that his mom and villian are the same person, and has to learn to accept PINK'S mistakes too!

She lost everything prior to the Garnet stuff and she realized she was following a being that didn't exist and forced Ruby and Sapphire to lose everything. Considering she served Blue Diamond and how Garnet was lied to the first time of the fusing, it's to be expected that this memory would affect her later.
Garnet can't see through lies that are already established. She can only see possibilities as they come near. Like she can't say for certain what will happen, but she can see several possibilities. If she looks for them. The visions don't just happen on their own. She has to seek it. So she can still be surprised when the least likely happens... Like jasper landing punches.

You know, Rose/Pink did a lot of bad things, but I think she was just trying to do her best. I mean, she likely took the easy way out more than once, and that caused a lot of consequences, intentional and not. But in a lot of those choices, I don’t think there was any “right” way to choose that would have no consequences on anyone unintended.
Angela Hsiao Rose was a DIAMOND. A lesser diamond, but a diamond nonetheless. She couldve talked to the other diamonds honestly instead of making excuses about not wanting to rule the Earth. Or waited until "the shattering" and then revealed herself before any other lives were lost. She had power, there were so many other options. But she chose the one that seemed "fun". She mostly ever did what she wanted.
Angela Hsiao Rose/Pink was very adamant about not killing humans or other gems. Tried for hundreds of year to reason with the diamonds, slow down the process of the colony and, once desperate enough, resorted to faking her own death thanks to Blue Diamond's statement. There was no good option available, so she chose the seemingly least bad one. I guess the other Diamonds never showed Pink about the gem corruption attack or that they'd be willing to use something so horrible over a diamond that they showed little to no affection for.

She didn't like what she had to do and then didn't want the guilt a diamond has or may cope with/get over destroying races. It still throws me off that as Pink Diamond she was depicted as childish then as Rose Quartz, wise.
Agree. One of her most questionable decisions was to create the Rose Quartz Gem type. We don't know if she had always intended to shapeshift into one of these and made the Gem cut similar to hers for that reason, or if it was just a lucky coincidence, but when she decided to start posing as a Rose Quartz she must have known that would lead to lots of Gems she created being doomed. Maybe she thought that was a necessary sacrifice, and maybe it was. We don't know how many they were exactly, but it's likely there were hundreds of them, going by how the room looked in That Will Be All. Since the bubbles are pink, Pink Diamond probably poofed and bubbled them herself, while not in the form of Rose Quartz. Maybe she pretended to be angry that one of them had started a rebellion and poofed them publicly in order to avoid suspicion from the other Diamonds. She probably never found out if the other Diamonds shattered the Gems she created or not, that was a risk she had to take. But thank god they haven't because now it's theoretically possible for Steven to free them and let them continue their lives. I hope he does. Since he is the current form of Pink Diamond, he has the authority necessary to explain everything to them and it's possible they will join the Crystal Gems - if they can forgive Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz, that is. Maybe many more lives would have been lost if Pink Diamond didn't do this, because posing as an entirely new Gem type that no one had ever seen before would have been too suspicious. And as a cunning leader, she knew this. If she did that instead, it's much more likely that she would have been exposed, her entire cause would've been lost, and Earth would have been doomed. There always has to be some sacrifices when you're a leader in a war. Either way, Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond is one of the most complicated and interesting characters in the series.
1 ok so the main leader is BOTH sides of the gem war was the same person wich means she sent her people to kill her people she literally sent both sides on a sucid mission that's really messed up 2 she is a dimmond lapis hates the dimmonds 3 maybe she didn't keep her rose form the whole time the room is hers so she could have turned back while she was in her room.
We can assume from the leaks that were shown after this moment, that sapphire goes missing and that is why in the leaks we see amethyst and steven looking under water and ruby riding the horse (amethyst) they are looking for sapphire.

Until Greg, Rose had a very simplistic understanding of love. It was a fun, beautiful game, but she never fully experienced it until Greg. She actually did always return to Pearl for five thousand years. But Pearl was never her equal, because Pearl never showed anything put utter devotion to her. She never challenged Rose, so their relationship was static. And then things changed. Rose fell in love with Greg, a deeper love.
As much as we idealize monogamy and the concept of soul mates, love doesn’t last forever, especially if the two people don’t build upon it. And Rose and Pearl weren’t soul mates, their relationship was unequal. It’s sad that she finally left Pearl, but she could never truly give Pearl the level of love that Pearl deserved. It was painful, but it was time.
It brings a lot of clarity when she stumbles over herself in a previous episode, too. When she said "Back when I served...homeworld."
It makes sense now! She stopped serving homeworld, but not her diamond! WHOA
That's quite sad because Pearl was supposed to represent freedom from slavery.
And perhaps she still was. When Pink commanded her to never speak of this again, she said it was her last order as a Diamond. When Bismuth asked Pearl who she belonged to, she said “no one!” Perhaps following the Rose Quartz persona was her choice. Devoting herself to her cause, her choice.
I’m curious how much of pearl’s devotion programmed into her, and how much was given freely. She clearly adored her Diamond. How much was genuine. And, if it was programmed, is it any less real? If you feel something, even if it was by design, then you feel it.

Honestly, it was never stated that they can't change their gems, and besides, her color stayed the same, that rule is still there, and of course it doesn't add up, this isn't the end of the series, nor is it close to it. As a result discovering knew things, just like pink changing her diamond, all you have to do is look from a different *angle* A new mindset, nobody saw it, because no one could open their minds. This entire show has had a moral. And I love even more that it's one not everyone would agree with because that make *another* moral plus the way we've all reacted and the way sapphire reacted is *another* moral, there are no bad people, just bad deeds. Too much freedom has problems, so does too much order. And when you decide to settle with violence, don't take it too far. They are where they are because of her deception. And they would definitely be worse off. No one before pink had the ability to challenge the rest of the diamonds. Pink diamond was the only one able to do it, nobody but the other three diamonds could have done it. And as we see, she was tougher than they thought. Theory about this: Sapphire gets more angry than Ruby because she is a long-term thinker. In Mindful Education, we see that Sapphire gets distracted by several thoughts and possibilities for the future that she can see, so much that she has trouble focusing on the present. Meanwhile, Ruby can get annoyed by a single problem that she has in the present and then moves past it. This is also seen in Keystone Motel, where Sapphire has already witnessed the future where she and Ruby forgive Pearl but Ruby gets so angry about this current problem of hers that she wants to react properly before forgiving her. A parallel is drawn between Ruby and Sapphire and Connie and Steven, respectively. Like Ruby, Connie is distracted by one single thing that is troubling her, while Steven tries to avoid thinking about his problems until they pile up in his mind and hit him all at once like at the climax of the episode. In this situation, Ruby maybe thinks "that's in the past, the fact that Rose lied to us doesn't take away the positive things about her" but Sapphire thinks about all the implications of this and feels very confused and betrayed. It's possible that it's more personal for Sapphire since she had a closer relationship to The Great Diamond Authority before, when she held an important position in Blue Diamond's court and knew her personally, which she of course remembers well. It could be related to her Future Vision too, that she is upset she never foresaw this. She is used to always knowing everything in advance but now she feels lost.

I don't see Rose Quartz as a facade necessarily- Maybe I'm reading too much into this, but the fact that Pink Diamond chose to remain in the Rose Quartz form for thousands of years after the war, I doubt was just to keep Garnet and Amethyst out of the loop. Pink Diamond made a conscious choice to remain as Rose Quartz, and I believe it was because that was who she wanted to identify as. She wanted to be Rose Quartz.
Just as Greg DeMayo left his family and name behind to become Greg Universe, Pink Diamond left her family and name behind to become Rose Quartz.

I honestly feel like Sapphire's reaction to the reveal has more to do with the shattering of her worldview. Keep in mind that Sapphire was a high ranking gem within Blue Daimond's court and betrayed her Daimond, running away from her purpose and use for a lowly Ruby solider and continued that path with the guidance of Rose Quartz. By the time The Answer rolled out Rose Quartz was a known criminal to Homeworld and was seen as an average gem who broke out of the mold and defined her own place in the universe. Something a sapphire with future vision couldn't possible do as easily since they have future vision but Ruby made her see she could change and Rose Quarts made her see she could change and so she did. Now imagine finding out, after losing most of your friends and your status and betraying your Daimond and purpose that your own change was just a part of a scheme by another Daimond to essentially repurpose you to their own court. How would any of the choices Sapphire made have any value in that scenario?

I don't blame Rose/Pink. She did bad things but realized they were wrong and stopped doing the bad things. She's not an angel but who is, really? She started the Rebellion as damage control, she couldn't undo her past mistakes but she could make sure as much of Earth was saved as possible. The Earth would have been destroyed if she didn't. Besides, she is a leader, warrior and politician. In those roles it can be necessary to lie and do things you don't like for the greater good. It's better to focus on who someone is right now than who they were in the past. Rose Quartz has always reminded me of Dumbledore, and never more than now. She has a similar leadership position, they're both loved and admired by their followers and initially seem pretty much perfect but then we learn that they were deeply flawed and made many mistakes and questionable decisions, and that the younger main character, despite always having looked up to them, is in some ways better and wiser than the older person. Just like Harry did I still like Dumbledore for the good things he did though, and I have the same attitude to Rose/Pink. Rose Quartz isn't a lie, she's just not the whole truth. Just like how you don't show the same sides of yourself to everyone you know but that doesn't mean one of the sides is less real or "you" than another. Also, Pink Diamond saved Earth from the other Diamonds, she was one of them but she stood up to them and defied them, which shows she was very brave and a genuinely good person who did the best out of a horrible situation. As Rose Quartz, she could allow Gems to be free and live how they wanted on Earth. I think Steven will take this revelation personally since it's his own mother and not only did she not make sure he learned the truth, but Pearl has been lying to him/withholding information from him as well. We'll see what happens after the initial shock, but as far as I'm concerned, the new episodes couldn't come sooner!!
Except she never stopped lying, to everyone. She lied to greg, lied to the crystal gems about bismuth, lied to bismuth about why she didn't want the breaking point around, got lapis imprisoned for thousands of years, hurt jasper, and how does it all end. She decides rather than tell those closest to her the truth, to have a baby and leave all her problems to him.
Like Rebecca Sugar said, this is something all the Crystal Gems will have to work through and process. Maybe Greg too if he finds out. But I understand why she lied. If she fronted the Rebellion without shedding the Pink Diamond identity, it would be harder to get people to trust her. She thought it was safest to become someone else to accomplish her goal of saving the Earth, because in a war of such importance your troops can't have any doubts about you if they're going to succeed. Pink Diamond's goal was to save Earth from Homeworld's colonization and then continue to protect it. Even if she revealed her true identity after Homeworld had left, one of the Crystal Gems might rebel and go to Homeworld to tell them the truth, which would likely lead to the Diamonds returning to Earth, confronting her, possibly punishing her, and possibly hurting the planet. Should she have taken that risk anyway? Maybe. For someone like Garnet, it's hurtful to learn that the person you looked up to didn't have complete faith in you. But I don't think Pink Diamond wanted to do anything that could put Earth in danger. Pearl knew the truth and she was horrified when she found out Homeworld had started showing interest in the planet again, I'm sure Rose would feel the same way if she was there, and that was what she tried to prevent by lying. Essentially, she wanted to avoid someone doing what Lapis did when Steven released her from the mirror. It's possible that someone might unbubble Bismuth now and tell her the truth. If so it will be interesting to see how she reacts, to let us know if Pink Diamond's fear was justified or not. Like I said, she is not perfect but I believe she's still a good person, fundamentally. I think she felt horrible about many of the things she did both in the past and in the present to avoid blowing her cover. But even though Garnet didn't know the truth at the time, I think she hit the nail on the head when she said to Steven: "She didn't always do what was best for her. But she always did what was best for Earth." In other words Pink Diamond seems to have had a utilitarian philosophy, she hurt the Crystal Gems and herself to protect a larger number of life forms on Earth.
I don't understand all the things you say, some of the accusations don't seem fair. I don't understand how she "hurt Jasper" for example, at least not more than any other Gem that was made for her. It's implied that Jasper was created after Pink Diamond was "shattered", even, and is only loyal to her by virtue of knowing she was the Diamond she was made for. And Pink Diamond wasn't involved with Lapis' imprisonment, in Same Old World we learn that she was captured during the war because she was mistakenly believed to be a Crystal Gem and imprisoned in the mirror by Homeworld soldiers. Then Pearl found the mirror at the Galaxy Warp, in the 80s from the looks of it. These are things Pink Diamond is only indirectly responsible for because of starting the Rebellion, but do you think her starting the Rebellion was a bad thing in itself? Regardless of what she did there would be negative consequences to her actions. I think this also points to her having a utilitarian philosophy, but she probably didn't know the full extent of Gems being hurt by her decision or in what ways, she could only suspect it.
Lastly, your statement that Rose only had Steven to run away from her problems. This is exactly what Steven accused her of in Storm in the Room, but now we know she had way more problems than we thought previously. The version of Rose Steven imagines in his room answers: "In the tape I left you, I told you I how much I wanted to have you and let you exist. Do you think what I said to you in the tape was a lie?" I don't think it was. I don't think Rose is so scheming that she would pretend to fall in love with Greg and have a baby with him just for this purpose. Besides, if that were the case, why wouldn't she have done it earlier? It makes no sense. Especially since no new threats from Homeworld had surfaced at the time. And in Lion 4: Straight to Video, Steven suspects Rose had him to fulfill some greater destiny, but ultimately arrives at the conclusion that she just wanted to have a human son who would have a normal life. Greg says Rose just wanted Steven to be her child. Guide to the Crystal Gems says Rose Quartz wanted to experience birth. She was fascinated by humans. Maybe it wasn't more complicated than that. So instead of scheming, maybe what we really should be accusing Rose/Pink Diamond of being is naive. She should have anticipated both that Homeworld would retaliate after she saved Earth (by Corrupting the remaining Gems on the planet, which destroyed the vast majority of her allies) and that Earth wasn't safe from all future alien attacks and Steven would end up having to deal with her mistakes. He is a good-hearted, responsible boy, why wouldn't he take that on himself, just because she wouldn't want him to? In Jungle Moon, she seems very immature (similar to young Steven), so I think this is a valid interpretation, that Pink Diamond was somewhat childlike and maybe overly optimistic in some situations. It's hard to say at this point if Pink Diamond's decision not to reveal herself to Homeworld was out of cowardice or not. Who knows, maybe Steven will have more courage than she did and tell the other Diamonds the truth, and maybe it will turn out to be the right call. But either way I think this was the right option for the series because of the interesting possibilities for the future the reveal opens up.
Sorry about this novel-length comment, but I want to say one more thing. I think the Dumbledore comparison I made is a good one. In the last book it's revealed that Dumbledore used to believe Muggles were inferior and was extremely power-hungry. When he got older, he redeemed himself and became a champion of Muggle rights, as well as the most prominent opponent of Voldemort, leading the resistance group against him. After the prophecy about Harry is revealed, Dumbledore realizes he has to do a bad thing for the Greater Good: Make sure Harry has a safe upbringing, but eventually prepare him for facing death at the hands of Voldemort, so that he can be stopped and the Wizarding World can be saved. Snape calls this "raising him like a pig for slaughter". Up to this point, Dumbledore has been one of Harry's greatest mentors who always tells him words of wisdom and a father figure for him as well. Dumbledore did his best not to get attached to Harry because he knew what his destiny would have to be. This was why he avoided him in the 5th book, for instance. But Dumbledore was only human and started caring about Harry on a personal level regardless. Meaning that despite Dumbledore's deceit, his love for Harry was genuine. Harry understood this and forgave him, not excusing his failings but acknowledging and admiring him for the good things he did and represented. In the last books Dumbledore realizes that Harry is better than him and understands certain things better than he did. It's the same with Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond and Steven, like Bismuth even says. Parents often think they learn things from their children, it's a common thing. Some Harry Potter fans hate Dumbledore and never forgave him. I did though, and I forgive Rose too. But no one is obliged to forgive either character. You should just acknowledge that they're complicated people and everything about them isn't black and white, regardless of your stance on the matter.

I'm really interested in what happens next. Sapphire is hurt af. And i think Pink was able to stay in the form of Rose because she was poofed, then she reformed to look that way. She saw herself as Rose so she reformed as such. She didn't really shapeshift in the same sense as Amethyst, Pearl and Garnet did, so she didn't struggle to keep the form. Or maybe Diamonds are just that powerful that they can shapeshift into a form for as long as they wish.
Though i have a question that's not really related to this. If every Gem comes out knowing their purpose, (i remember amethyst said she came out really confused or something?) why didn't Amethyst know about Pink Diamond before the crystal gems told her about her? I also see a few comments talking about how if Blue found out she would be emotional and want to protect Steven to some degree, but I think the opposite would be true. Yellow, as she's been suppressing her emotions and has probably been feeling guilty for such a long long time, might be more empathetic and, "It wasn't my fault." I think that Blue, as seen in the new episode, would react more like, "Wtf you could have just told me you caused me all this pain just wtf?! *Cri*"
This is the grey area arena of the show. The thought I keep coming back to is a lie or a story is truth to the people who believe. The liar or storyteller, even when under a different persona, is still themselves to a certain extent. Now, I have to figure out, along with the Gems, how this scenario can apply, if at all.
I think they'll forgive Rose/Pink. They just need time to sort their feelings and validate them too. It would be way weirder if everyone was ok with this reveal on the CG team.
Ultimately, Pink wanted a different life for herself and gemkind. That still means something, even in the betrayal and lies. At least that's what I'm telling myself, haha.

Rose- sorry, Pink Diamond was 'able to hold form' because she was poofed and changed her appearance and basic shape when she formed again. She didn't shape-shift. Pink and Rose arn't that much different in height and all she had to do was make herself a lil fatter and her hair longer. Plus she's a diamond, of course she can do it better then Amethyst.

Makes sense to me. I think she just turned fatter because she shortened her height and the mass had to go somewhere as seen in Reformed where Amethyst created one huge muscular arm and the other one ended up as a noodle limb, so a Gem probably only has this much mass to work with. And hair obviously is no problem since Amethyst was shown in a short-haired form when she first saw Greg, but has long hair now.

I want White Diamond to absolutely ABHOR Pink Diamond. I want her to be absolutely FLAMING at what Pink has done with the colony, and the Earth after the rebellion ended. I want White to ROAR with fury when she finds out that the weakling of her family, the black sheep that she may or may not have loved in the past, has caused this much pain to all of her subjects and sisters/daughters for thousands of years, and left all of the mess to a 14 year old measly human boy. I want her to take revenge for getting deceived by the off-color Diamond, by the one that came out wrong, the disgrace to the Diamond name and status that didn't have a true place in the throne besides her in the first place.
Let's hope Steven Universe becomes Game of Thrones after this point. :)
I would love that, but...after this and the knowledge that, as you pointed out, Yellow and Blue Diamond are gonna be on Team Crystal Gem, I have to believe that White Diamond is going to be like all the other so-called 'villains' we've seen, in that, she won't be. Steven will sing a song and everyone will hold hands under the hippie tree and it'll be the most depressing end to a show ever. Yeah...I'm pretty much just expecting some lazy grandma for White. Maybe if I keep expectations low, I might actually get something that resembles the tight, interconnected, sensible story we had before this.

I'm really glad that I'm not the only person who isn't that excited about, what essentially is a horrible story line or at least, the horrible conclusion of what was a very good story line. And from what we've seen so far, there's no way WD is going to be the big bad that we've all been waiting for. I'm not saying that cause I'm gonna stop watching - we'll hold the jury out on that - but that's why I'm so disappointed by this. There was such a good story line, with realism to it - the chains of command and having to make decisions you didn't want or didn't like (Bismuth), the survivor's guilt of war and knowing that while you managed to keep standing, you didn't really 'win' per se, the lesson that not everyone is going to want to be your friend or wants your help and that sometimes, you just need to bail on the 'lets be friends' and double up on the 'I'm gonna kick your ass', the lesson of Steven being _Steven_ and not Rose and that he's his own person...

Maybe the reason Pink diamond was able to stay as Rose because either:
1: It shows daimonds can stay a different form MUCH longer than any other gem.
or
2: When Pink reformed after poofing, she came back in the form of Rose, so she didn't have to worry about tiring out and forming back into Pink/ damaging her form.
ALSO, a gems form/age depends on their mental state. So if Pink's mental state was wanting to stay Rose, then I think that could also be a reason why ??
Or she could have simply taken breaks in her shapeshifting? We already know there were places in the world that Rose would spend time at with none of the other gems around her at the time.
Remember in all of Greg's flashback, Rose offten go to some distance place? In thay time, she can just reform to Pink Diamond if she shapeshiff for too long.

I expect fallout, but I think they should learn to move passed it. They lived and worked with Rose Quartz for 5 thousand years. At some point, a mask is no longer a costume, it’s reality. The positive things she espoused, the life changing inspiration that allowed Garnet to be who she really wanted to be, was real. Every first person account of Rose, tells the story of a woman who wanted to break free of rigid predefined roles and have choice, to pursue happiness.
Also consider that Pink tried to pull out of the colonization and leave the Earth and the rebels alone, several times, but the other Diamonds wouldn’t allow it. Blue stated her “excuses”. She didn’t want to destroy the organic life. She didn’t want to dismantle the human cities. After those excuses failed, she created Rose and the rebellion, as another attempt to make the colony untenable. And it didn’t work. So she chose to give up being a Diamond, to give up on going home, to stay on Earth. Her intent with the shattering ploy was to get Homeworld to give up, to let the Crystal Gems to have freedom. She just didn’t anticipate the Diamond retaliation.
Her motives were sound. Her methodology was questionable. She had a had a situation she didn’t know how to get out of, and her choices didn’t go as planned. I put most of the blame on those that pulled the trigger. Rose advocated not killing their enemies, Homeworld gleefully shattered thousands. Homeworld experimented with shards. Homeworld caused corruption. Pinks failure, was in not anticipating their cruelty, and being unable to counter it. Her failing was naïveté, not malice. And I don’t think that erases the good she tried to accomplish. It doesn’t erase the woman they knew for millennia.
Good thoughts. You can tell she didn't expect any retaliation because she genuinely thought Yellow and Blue didn't care about her at all, def not enough to bear a grudge against an entire planet and still be grieving for her after all this time.

Too many, starting by lying to the other diamonds, she had to tell the truth, and if that didn't work, she could've fight homeworld as a diamond. Instead of saying "There's too much organic life" she should've said "I care about these life forms" instead of "These cities are hard to dismantle", she should've said "To me is hard to dismantle these cities" instead of "There's a rebellion, I wanna leave this planet", she should've said, "I love this planet, I don't want to conquer it, I want to take care of it". They didn't listen because she was just complaining, maybe if she tried to convince the other diamonds that the Earth was worthy of being preserved everything could've turned our differently. And all the things homeworld did, although unnecessary, were indirect consequences of the gem war that Pink started as Rose.
@Swirlstar. I agree. I think, in Pink’s mind, the other Diamonds didn’t care about her. They treated her like an inferior, they were cold and dismissive, even Blue in that flashback. She was wrong, or course, they cared to the point of grieving for 4000 years. But she didn’t realize it when she planned to “kill” herself.
@Miranda. We actually don’t know that, yet. Gem society has a very rigid caste system, very rigid expectations, even a Diamond has their ROLE. Would the Earth been spared if a Diamond rebelled? Would Blue and Yellow accepted her choice not to hollow out the planet and kill everything? Or would hey have claimed she wasn’t prepared for colonization and wrestled control from her? Instead of enshrining her Zoo and reemploying her Gems elsewhere, would they have shattered them all? We don’t have enough context yet.
Honesty doesn’t always result in a win.
I think it was more-so that Pink’s failure was in not expecting Homeworld’s retaliation & the fact that she never seems to think things through

The revelation that Rose Quartz was Pink Diamond all along can cause a potential fallout big enough to split the team apart. Garnet literally fell apart after finding out and Amethyst is completely shocked and in utter disbelief.
Amethyst will probably have the easiest time accepting it though. She wasn't really there when all that Gem War stuff happened and she is the closest to Steven.
My explanation for why pink diamond kept her form as rose is pretty simple in my opinion. Rose Quartz is smaller than Pink Diamond, which means she would go from a higher energy state to a lower one due to the difference in size. In other words, smaller form, less energy used to maintain said form.
Staarrliner49 also, she would be in great trouble if she just proceeded to be pink diamond. probably would be shattered by other diamonds for running away to earth. she had to come up with something so she could live freely and choosing the other indentity was the solution

I mean personally, I refuse to hate Pink/Rose because what else was she supposed to do in regards to saving Earth??? The other Diamonds were forcing her to continue the colonization and therefore the destruction of life on Earth. They refused to listen to her and looked down at her. Basically, she had to choose between Earth/Humans or her own kind. She made a choice, and one side suffered the consequences while the other was spared and saved. I am not saying Pink is some sort of genius savior who did everything right, her lying about everything made a huge mess of it all. But ultimately one side was going to be wiped out by Blue, Yellow and White, and she chose humans over the safety of gems. Selfish yet selfless. Cowardly yet brave. There are elements of both. She is a COMPLEX character, not pure evil

And besides all of that, we need to think about how things could have been different if Pink had led the rebellion instead. Sure, she'd probably have her entire court on her side, but only because they were obligated to follow their Diamond. The war would be easier, but they would never understand what true freedom is. They'd be risking their lives because it was their duty, not because they believed in the cause.

Exactly! And she doesn't seem to anticipate the Diamonds' retaliation, or at least doesn't anticipate that they'll go as far as they did. She tells Pearl that Blue and Yellow don't care about the colony, it's just hers, which at the very least implies she doesn't think they'll have much investment in it or in trying to recover it.
Pink isn't blameless, she still screwed up and her actions directly and indirectly caused a lot of damage, whether she knew what they would cause or not. But I think it's too black-and-white to just consider Pink/Rose either completely innocent or evil and selfish, and SU is all about not being black-and-white and about acknowledging that people are complex.
Pink/Rose was stuck between a rock and a hard place - like SU says, there's no such thing as a good war, good people do bad things sometimes. I also think part of Pink/Rose's character arc/development was about growing up and maturing from the 'bratty' Diamond she used to be to a more well-rounded person who could understand, appreciate, and respect the complexities of the people around her.
EDIT: Also, there's straight-up no way 'Pink openly rebels against Homeworld' would have been possible. Homeworld would have either subdued her or shattered her. Rebellion against Homeworld undermines the supreme authority of the Diamonds, even if (especially if!) it's by another Diamond. It would be absolutely impermissible.

TLDR: _PD being killed was always going to end with Earth getting nuked in retaliation. Only an idiot would think otherwise._
_There were other ways to protect Earth outside of lying her ass off and fabricating a huge lie that worsened the situation and reinforced the Diamonds perception of PD being incompetent. She did it for selfish reasons, not to protect anyone._
People seem to keep forgetting that she held more sway over the populace as a diamond. Had it been PD who openly defied the other diamonds, more gems would've joined her cause or at least paid more heed to what she was saying. Instead she gave mealy mouthed excuses and told lies about it being too difficult to colonise the planet, only reinforcing the other diamonds belief that she was incompetent.
In the end she was just a manipulative character who got in over her head when all she wanted was to goof off and screw around. I'm not seeing it as her being selfless, even the way the scene is framed made her intentions look purely self serving. She didn't do it to spare the gems or Earth, she wanted to escape the reality of her responsibilities and saying it was for other gems and to protect Earth was an easy way to cover her true intentions. She fabricated a lie that continued to grow. A lie that cost lives. It was all an excuse.
The diamonds would not have nuked the planet had PD just nutted up and told them no, explained in no uncertain terms as to why she wasn't going to let them proceed with colonisation, *_made_* them care, acted like the leader she was supposed to be and showed that she was a competent individual. Fernando that dosent really explain anything. Amythyst reformed once with a bigger form, and it was in proportionate and uncomfortablefor her. Reforming with a different outfit or hairstyle isn't the same as changing your entire body, gem placement and basically becoming another person.
But, Rose Quartz was actually a Diamond. A much stronger gem than a Rose Quartz. So I would believe, her poofing and reforming into a much smaller size would be easy for her to keep up with. And as someone else stated, she WANTED to be a Rose Quartz instead of a Diamond. So her form would stick easier, with what she feels. Not trying to be aggressive or anything. I think it makes 100% sense. I am still in shock!
Lunar Robot I mean amethyst reformed larger but pd is taller in her base form while rose is shorter but chubbier, so she could have movwd her mass from height to with and that could have balanced out her body.

I really don’t see Rose as the best anymore. If you think about it she started a rebellion that caused so many gems to shatter over nothing. And it was all because she was afraid of what Yellow and Blue Diamond would think if she told them that she no longer wanted to colonize the Earth. My heart is so sad
To be fair, the other diamonds made it clear they didn't care about organic life. And didn't take PD seriously. Regardless of the choices she made, someone would've been hurt. Whether all of humanity would have been wiped out if she continued leading her colony, or this gem war.

I'm actually more worried about Pearl. Sure, she was forced by Pink to keep the secret, and we as the audience can accept that, but the other characters? I'm sure there is going to be resentment and maybe even hostility towards her.
Also, while this explains Steven's weird flashbacks and connection to the diamonds (ie crying with Blue), think about the total mental breakdown this is going to have on him! He has been through so much, and has had to accept that his mom made a BUNCH of mistakes, but now, he has to swallow the fact that his mom and villian are the same person, and has to learn to accept PINK'S mistakes too!

She lost everything prior to the Garnet stuff and she realized she was following a being that didn't exist and forced Ruby and Sapphire to lose everything. Considering she served Blue Diamond and how Garnet was lied to the first time of the fusing, it's to be expected that this memory would affect her later.
Garnet can't see through lies that are already established. She can only see possibilities as they come near. Like she can't say for certain what will happen, but she can see several possibilities. If she looks for them. The visions don't just happen on their own. She has to seek it. So she can still be surprised when the least likely happens... Like jasper landing punches.
What about the answer? In that moment, Rose/Pink Diamond should have been captured. So why can't she know that?

You know, Rose/Pink did a lot of bad things, but I think she was just trying to do her best. I mean, she likely took the easy way out more than once, and that caused a lot of consequences, intentional and not. But in a lot of those choices, I don’t think there was any “right” way to choose that would have no consequences on anyone unintended.
Angela Hsiao Rose was a DIAMOND. A lesser diamond, but a diamond nonetheless. She couldve talked to the other diamonds honestly instead of making excuses about not wanting to rule the Earth. Or waited until "the shattering" and then revealed herself before any other lives were lost. She had power, there were so many other options. But she chose the one that seemed "fun". She mostly ever did what she wanted.

Angela Hsiao Rose/Pink was very adamant about not killing humans or other gems. Tried for hundreds of year to reason with the diamonds, slow down the process of the colony and, once desperate enough, resorted to faking her own death thanks to Blue Diamond's statement. There was no good option available, so she chose the seemingly least bad one. I guess the other Diamonds never showed Pink about the gem corruption attack or that they'd be willing to use something so horrible over a diamond that they showed little to no affection for.

I agree to this. I feel that after she saw what it really meant to be a diamond after trying so hard to be on the same level as the others... She didn't like what she had to do and then didn't want the guilt a diamond has or may cope with/get over destroying races. It still throws me off that as Pink Diamond she was depicted as childish then as Rose Quartz, wise.
Agree. One of her most questionable decisions was to create the Rose Quartz Gem type. We don't know if she had always intended to shapeshift into one of these and made the Gem cut similar to hers for that reason, or if it was just a lucky coincidence, but when she decided to start posing as a Rose Quartz she must have known that would lead to lots of Gems she created being doomed. Maybe she thought that was a necessary sacrifice, and maybe it was. We don't know how many they were exactly, but it's likely there were hundreds of them, going by how the room looked in That Will Be All. Since the bubbles are pink, Pink Diamond probably poofed and bubbled them herself, while not in the form of Rose Quartz. Maybe she pretended to be angry that one of them had started a rebellion and poofed them publicly in order to avoid suspicion from the other Diamonds. She probably never found out if the other Diamonds shattered the Gems she created or not, that was a risk she had to take. But thank god they haven't because now it's theoretically possible for Steven to free them and let them continue their lives. I hope he does. Since he is the current form of Pink Diamond, he has the authority necessary to explain everything to them and it's possible they will join the Crystal Gems - if they can forgive Pink Diamond/Rose Quartz, that is. Maybe many more lives would have been lost if Pink Diamond didn't do this, because posing as an entirely new Gem type that no one had ever seen before would have been too suspicious. And as a cunning leader, she knew this. If she did that instead, it's much more likely that she would have been exposed, her entire cause would've been lost, and Earth would have been doomed. There always has to be some sacrifices when you're a leader in a war. Either way, Rose Quartz/Pink Diamond is one of the most complicated and interesting characters in the series.

We can assume from the leaks that were shown after this moment, that sapphire goes missing and that is why in the leaks we see amethyst and steven looking under water and ruby riding the horse (amethyst) they are looking for sapphire.
