  • On January 13th of 2017 I got a chance to sit down with punk icon and one of my personal idols, Ian MacKaye. Ian is the founder of Dischord records and played a monumental role in the DC hardcore scene through his various bands including Teen Idols, Minor Threat, and Fugazi.
This interview originally aired on the New Trier High School radio station, January 14th 2017 as part of the WNTH Radiothon.

Well done! Thank you for posting this. Ian has influenced my life since the first issue of Thrasher Skateboard Magazine I ever owned in 1984. He wrote an article about the DC skate scene and that motivated us to build our own ramps in Northern California. Then came the music... Thank you!

Thank you for asking about the Fugazi record...I wish there were more interviews with Fugazi about the music and the recording and the musical ideas..unfortunately when ever they get asked about Fugazi it's always about the way the band functioned and the ideas that Fugazi implemented.. so thank you..

i love the juvenile touch of this interview but you really should not ask guys like ian if they are still connected to the scene or if he knew henry rollins. so made my day :-) nice job though.

Oh I misread your comment. I though you wanted the interviewer to ask Ian whether or not he knew Henry. My mistake.

I'm not sure if I misheard or misunderstood Ian, but did I hear him say in one part of the interview that he and Amy were playing with a third person (a bass player) and then later in the interview he said that Joe Lally was at the Dischord House at that moment? I hope I heard that correctly, and some music comes of the practicing.
