LMAOOOO the number of MEMES IN HERE!!! Absolutely my favourite review EVER! The humour, the review, the photography, everything is on point, been so long i've laughed so hard at a video LOL! Love it man, subbed!
Would like to ask for your opinion.. if comparison between 1.4 & 2. Does it make a lots of difference if shooting at night & in terms of lights coming. Thanks
MARVIN LEE If you want cleaner iso results, bokeh and more background separation then yes. But remember these things don't apply to everything when on the street doing candids. If doing portraits though then yes, the 1.4 is much better. It depends entirely on what you want though. ;)
I am really enjoying the way you talk through your street photog thinking and process whilst also reviewing gear. It’s so much more interesting and useful than a regular pixel-peeping review IMHO.
Lens hoods are important, this was very helpful xD man, I wish Australia had more passive subjects, the amount of confrontation is depressing. But I do find that if you have a purpose (like youtube content) it's easier to break ice rather than just saying 'I'm a street photographer taking subjects of cool subjects' xD looking forward to part 2!
@@AlexOnStreets it's cool, nonetheless. I just think your video concept suits best to review the 27mm f2.8 since at the moment I can't find anyone on TH-cam doing real world street test for that lens apart from Digitalrev's Fuji X-M1 review, which is a very old video, really. Curious to see how it pairs with more recent Fuji camera. 😉
@@dwinzgaprak Ah wow actually good point. And I just remembered that rumors are saying a mark 2 version of that lens is coming out soon. So I might have to decide in the future what to do about that.
This lens along with the 16mm 1.4 on two X-pro3 bodies is my dream rig. It will happen this year! (Moving from my film rig of two canon AT-1's with a 24mm and a 50mm)
23mm is a good choice for every day shoot, not too wide and not too zoom either, if i only have to choose to only have 1 lens, probably i will take this one😄
I enjoyed this quite a bit. The social aspect of this right now, especially can/could/will be a challenge. ~ You handle that well it seems. Strange times to be sure, and you are out there. That's cool.
I’m impressed how could you easily asking people to taking picture of them. I got ticket to Japan on May 21 and hoping find on same experience just like you. Anyway all picture you posted are SOOC? Using XPro3?
Great advice about reading body language. Super helpful. I had a guy yell at me after taking his picture and then ask if I could send it to him. Thanks for the review!
Awesome video ! Just Sub'd ! I need to bring the 23 1.4 out for street photography. I keep reverting to the 23f2 and X100V for obvious reasons . I always forget how sharp this lens can be as seen in your sample photos. Keep up the awesome work
Ya I really thought a lot about the 23f2 vs the 1.4 for a long time. In the end, because I do portraits at night too, I went for this one. And it was before the Viltrox came out. But still, I got a good deal on this lens so I am still comfortable with it. ;) Give it a go!
Dude great video and solid work man. Also very informative as to how you go about your craft. I have this awesome lens as well and would like to get the guts to do some street work and your videos help a lot. Also what was the simple round lens hood that you showed last?
Thanks! This is all mostly strait in camera jpgs but some I used the raw to bring up the shadows like this shot. The second shot with them was strait jpg and you can see the shadows are lower. So I just wanted to give a good contrast between the two. Thanks for watching!
Nice video! I love my 23/1.4. It's such an amazing lens. I got lucky and bought it for relatively cheap on LensAuthority at $450 for a nearly perfect example.
@@AlexOnStreets the price you got it at is still VERY good. The price I got was certainly an outlier. If I ever head back to Osaka someday, I'm definitely taking my X-E3 or X-T3 and the 23/1.4.
Nice video Alex! Thanks! Only a minor question: do you feel the "Eorefo Camera Strap Vintage 100cm Nylon Climbing Rope" you use is more suitable/versatile than the original Fujifilm strap that comes with the X-Pro 3, especially to use as a wrist strap?
Very nice review work and some very useful insight! Thanks Alex! Always enjoy your videos! I’ve personally tried shooting street with the 16mm, 23mm and 35mm and still feel more comfortable not getting too close with the 35 🤣 people in Japan are so much nicer getting picture taken of them, unlike Hong Kong...
Wow interesting. I really wanted to visit HK this year actually but couldn't with everything that is going on. But definitely 35 has its advantages. Aslong as you enjoy it the images will come!
Alex On Streets excellent! Fingers crossed and looking forward to that! Let’s keep in touch via Instagram. Mine is @ryanhoviolin I’m already your follower there 😉 Thanks Alex!
Great video, Alex! My local store had a used 23mmf1.4 and I almost pulled the trigger, but I already have the 23mmf2 with WR and I quite enjoy shooting street in the rain, especially now in the fall/winter months to come, so I‘ll stick to that for now. Let‘s see if that‘s still true after Part 2 😂
Mind. Art. Creativity. Ah thanks! Ya I think the 23f2wr is so great. I really had a hard time choosing between them. In the end I do paid portraits at night and indoor events sometimes. So that was the deciding factor for me. I hope to do the 23f2wr review in the future though! Thanks again and always for watching.
Regarding your comments on hoods, I would love a plastic cylindrical screw-in one like the metal one you showed - it would absorbs bumps better than metal, rather than transmitting shocks to the lens and camera. Think of it like a car’s crumple zone.
Ah yes! Thank you for commenting about hoods. This is my jam. Ya actually I do still use my plastic one for that very reason. I would also say the square metal ones will certainly be better for weather resistance but it's true if you bump into hard objects the plastic is better. While if you bump into people the metal is better. Maybe you hurt someone with the metal hood but your lens is more important than these mortal human flesh bags. Perhaps the best solution is if we had a plastic square concave lens hood. 1 like = 1 prayer for damaged lens hoods. Thanks for watching.
For street photography I'm happy with my 23mmf2. So i don't have any interest in buying this particular lens at the moment (even though that manual focus clutch is really great), but man your videos are always entertaining. :)) Keep rocking!
I have both and if I could only have one it would definitely be the 23 1.4. But if I can bring two lenses with me it's always the 18f2 and 35f2 or 1.4.
@@AlexOnStreets thank you so much Alex. I have the 35 too. Thinking about getting the 18 now to make a combo, and latter I get the 23. Thank you again.
I watched some of your videos before but with this one you clearly improved your style. ,You clearly put more work in it and i dont mean the memes. 🤗Keep it up and you will have a regular viewer with me. I bought this lens when i started with fuji because i thought i would continue shooting weddings. But i never really got this one working for me. Maybe the second part of your video will keep me from selling it...
@@TheOneAboveAll_ Bro for video sure. I mean this was never meant to be a video lens from the start when it was released and Fuji didn't care about video at all. This review focused it on photo because thats what it is meant for. Even if it does have the clutch focus ring with hard stops making it an awesome manual focus video lens. But for photo.. I own the f2 aswell. What camera do you use? If it's and older camera. It might. I only ever used it with my XH1 in boost mode with grip and XPro 3 which is ofcourse lightning fast. If you are focusing in low light you need to remember to focus on more contrasting areas of the frame. The newer cameras have more phase detect AF areas and you will experience less hunting with any of the lenses. But use even the f2wr's on ie. XT1 or any of the mid-range Fuji cameras and you will definitely have an issue with those because they are almost always using contrast detect in low light which is garbage. Point is, don't blame the lens, blame your camera. And if you are still having problems on an XT3 or later then you need to work out your AF settings cause I literally never missed a shot with this lens when being deliberate. It's probably one of the most reliable lenses I have for photos. If you really care about video get the 16-55 f2.8wr or the new 16-80 f4wr ois.
great video Alex. What film simulation are you using? is it classic neg? I like the rendering of photos you showed. I owned 23 f2 that I hated, its bokeh was quite ugly and its fall-off nothing special. The 23mm f1.4 maybe has less bokeh than a 35mm 1.4 full frame lens, it's flat like you said, but it has some kind of 3Dimensonality that I can't understand. Maybe it's the gradual transition to focus, anyway it gives emphasis to the subject without sacrificing its background and environment.
Sorry for the song being muted at the end guys. TH-cam caught me 😂 Memes and 80's songs are a lifestyle choice.
