I especially like this one as my Dad was in the SeaBees. He was stationed on Saipan. He carved a good sized Sea Bee emblem out of ammunition crates while there. Thanks for sharing this restore. Great job.
Construction under difficult conditions. A very tough group. I loved the sandblasting right along with everyone else. The sound effect reminded me of when I was a kid at the movies and the cartoons started.
As a Vietnam Veteran and a former Seabee, this brought back many "fond" memories. By the way a while ago I was at the VFW when an Army Vet came up to me and said, "You Seabees were the crazy bastards I ever met." I thanked him for the compliment and bought him a beer.
I fucked up and didnt buy a 7400 sand blast cabinet that sold for $475 near me. I really didnt have the money for it. But could have probably sold it for $4000
Another very fine restoration! I'm watching the 1944 film "The Fighting Seabees" tonight....especially the part where John Wayne uses the tractor to rip open the fuel tanks at the top of the hill to destroy the enemy. I salute you and your craftsmanship.
Chris Murphy , my Grandfather was a Seabee. He wasn’t a Marine’s father, but he was the father of a navy man - my father, who also served in WWII. My Grandfather served in WW I and II.
Great attention to detail. The small ripples in the gray paint look just like the weld lines in real painted steel. This is an outstanding restoration. Thanks for saving a piece of history.
Filling and sanding ultimately ensure a beautiful restoration! TRG you did it again! The addition of a flashing light is definitely the finishing touch.
It never ceases to amaze me how he takes what looks like nothing left of the metal body and, after the sandblasting, it's clean and pit free. I'm beginning to think TRG has a fountain of youth in his sandblasting machine.
My father had great respect for the SeaBees. He watched them build and extend the runways on Saipan, for B29 use before the island was secured. Narragansett Bay
Wow, that thing has got to be old. I don't ever remember them being that green color....mine was all yellow, and that was in the late '70's. Awesome job, yet again.
From a die hard collector that dozer was manfactured from 1962-1968 in turquoise green, other colors used highway orange, safety yellow, fire engine red, army green, navy blue.

Cool idea! My dad was a Seabee in WWII in the Philippines. 111th Special Battalion. Part of special forces in those days. And once they'd done enough island hopping, building runways to get within fuel distance of the Japanese mainland, he and the guys offloaded the bombs parts. He always insisted they were built on site to keep the bombs from going down all together if one ship was sunk. And he also told me stories about that hell hole Guadalcanal. From those stories he told, those spider holes and gunman in the canopy were all true as seen in games like Medal of Honor.
Many memories of my kid-days. One Armed Forces day my class put on a show to celebrate the military around '55 the 10th anniversary. There is a song for each branch, we (my class) did the actual "C-B" song. "We're the Sea-Bees of the Navy" The name comes from "Construction Battalion". As an aside, three of my uncles were Marines in the entire Pacific Theater and one got a Silver Star on Iwo Jima driving a dozer. He wasn't a Sea-Bee just enlisted Marine. What he did was lead a bunch of other Marines up the mountain using the dozer for cover. He dropped the blade and sealed the cave (one of them) that the enemy combatants were in. All three uncles went through the entire war without harm, two went on to survive Korea.
That Lab Metal is tough stuff. I said the heck with that a long time ago. A good heavy coat of hot flocked KL primer does great and is 100x easier to sand...Excellent job. I enjoyed your video.
Some people will remove as much as they can to keep the paint from getting mixed in with their blast media. It makes it last a bit longer and will save money in the long run, but to me it's not worth the extra effort.
