Tonka toys were made to be played with and that's what we did. Then to see you restore this motor grader shows how well made they began. And brought back some warm memories of playing with them with my older brother. Yeah, he played in the dirt with his little sister.
It's awesome that you restore these old toys, they're highly collectable and a great link to the past of how we played, and I didn't fast forward, I'd rather learn something than ignore history, great info and a great job on the project, keep saving them and I'll keep watching
I love sandblasting! I am going to buy one and "blast" all my tools, my outside furniture, my wife and anything else that is getting rusty... My son was given one of these graders; he pushed it, sat on it, stood on it for years.... I wish I had kept it.
I for one enjoyed the first 5:33. Learning about these trucks and the subtle differences between them during the years is very interesting. I grew up with the early 70’s Tonkas and the restoration you gave this grader is amazing. Thank you for sharing!
That was an amazing restoration. Who would have thought that this toy could be given a new lease of life like that? I thought the explanation at the beginning added a lot of useful information - and I wouldn't be adverse to a small amount of voice over during the restoration either 😊👍
The initial condition of the toy not only does huge credit to your skills, but to the manufacturer for making such a good quality item in the first place! I say 🥇🥇to both parties 🚜
Makes me feel old when people restore toys from my childhood. I was 12 in 1976. My little brother was born in 1976 and he had all kind of toy cars, but Tonka was not in Europe in these days. Now I'm about 100 lol What an mamazing job you do on these 🙏👍❤️
TRG, I am glad that you are doing this. People from the younger generation don't know stuff like this existed. I remember these when I was a kid. Dishwashers are amzazing machines. They do come in handy when it comes to restoring stuff like this.
Now I remember why I love Tonka trucks. They’re just so flippin cool!!! You did an outstanding job on this one! It probably didn’t look this good when it was brand new!
oh man, wow! I got one of these for my birthday from my aunt when I was a kid!! LOVED playing in the dirt with my Tonkas and Matchbox & How Wheels cars. Most summer days I'd have some friends over, we'd get all the cars out and take turns picking which ones we wanted, then we'd cut all these roads with little driveways to represent houses, park the cars at each "house", then drive back and forth visiting each other. The simplest things gave some much pleasure back then.
I had wondered what the thought process was behind the actual restoration. Thanks for going through that. It was very enlightening. It’s great seeing something go from trash to brand new. Sandblasting is so satisfying to watch. Thanks for sharing.
A beautiful restoration? No! I call this a marvelous metamorphosis! After all, from completely rusted to a beautiful painted model is a major metamorphosis. Even now you have shown that you are a skilled crafsman.
You are the first toy restoration expert I've seen that references research to identify the original paint and decals to restore it authentically. I appreciate that very much!
I bought this exact toy from the thrift store for eight dollars for my son. Thank you for the information, when I get it in front of me I’m going to see what year it is. I like you discussing the info on the toys. Appreciate it
I thought I was watching the Antiques Roadshow for the first part of the video. But I like that you actually did that much research to figure out exactly what you were dealing with. And I thought you were completely off on the wheel rims being orange until had it apart. And sure enough. You were right. It's completely weird that it faded to exactly that color of yellow. The standard color of yellow used for these sorts of toys.
You do some fine research and restoration work. Watching your films has me wanting to build scale model cars again; something I haven’t done in almost 20 years. I do not remember seeing this grader back then, of course I was only 8 years old and I have slept since then. If you work for a City, County, or State agency stay safe. If not, thanks for your support.
Since i'm Brazilian and in top of that, born in the early 90's i wish i had toys like these to play with. Good thing now i'm getting successful enough to live somewhere else and now we have internet to buy those things. Awesome work.
You’ve outdone yourself mate. That looks better than it did when new. Brilliant work since the sandblasting cabinet and powder coating. You’ve notched your restorations up to the next level.🇦🇺👍
It was pretty neat to learn the research behind the restoration of these toys. This model or one close to it in year, looks like one a friend of mine had way back. It must have been given to him because we were both very young (I was born in 1974) when it would have been on market originally. Seeing something in this rough of condition getting a new life is really amazing. Tonka toys just really never seem to die without a lot of effort.
Always watch with my two kids. My youngest ( daughter is ten) loves sand blasting...no idea why but she really likes it, my son (12) loves you see how they work,me it's painting. Loved painting, still do. Gotten to the stage where we have our time together to sit and watch your work, and it's absolutely excellent. I found to the history bit really of interest, even the kids did too. Keep up the fantastic work! From Darrel, Richie and Jenny
That was one of the best restorations i have seen ever! Thank you for explaining it too, some of us have no idea what Tonka is and havent a clue about restorations! Thoroughly enjoyed it!
That is nasty rusty! Wow, beautiful restoration! Construction Barbie is gonna love it! Great job! It is so satisfying to see these toys restored. Thank you!
WOW!!!! TRG RESTORATION you have put a lot of work in this project. At the beginning it looked pretty hopeless, RUST!!!but leave it to you to save the day!!.
Thanks for taking a minute to talk about the history of this, not many resto guys do that.....I liked it. LOVE your work sir, I just SUBSCRIBED last video I watched, the Tonka compacter/roller. Anyway, great craftsmanship and attention to detail. Beautiful work, I'm hooked. Can't wait to see what's up next brother 👍🇺🇸🇺🇸👍 EDIT: It would be so cool if you took a minute every video and talk about the project and give a little history of it. Thanks again for your great channel and work.
Ya know I usually like seeing these trucks in original condition, and left unrestored. But when they're rusted to all hell like this one was I think restorations are awesome! You did an amazing job on this sir! Also I actually loved all the talking at the beginning. It's great learning more about these things.
I really liked how the tires looked before the clear coat you put on it, it made them look like real tires, which I thought was a cool effect. Love what you’re doing, and appreciated the beginning where you explained how you figured out what year it is and what decals to get.
That is a very nice piece enjoy your explaining the years of build and the logistics of it never knew they built so many different types thank you I enjoy your videos
I remember as a kid I would be in heaven whenever I would find a partial and beaten up Tonka truck. I would hold on to the pieces even though they called me a garbage picker. When I would find a part to complete it I would restore it the best I could over a few months. The satisfaction of having brought it back and owning one outright was something that doesn't compare when buying it.

Best Tonka restoration I've ever seen on TH-cam. EVER. Hands down.
Thanks! Thanks for watching!
It makes me so happy when he paints the tire letters white
Same!!

Safest way to "blast" is eat taco bell and aim
Allan Manley 😂
Me too Allan Manley, i love sandblasting
You give every restoration such detailed attention. The pride you put into every job is abmirable and encouraging.
It's amazing that some of these toys from back in the 1960s
70s were all brought back to these original appearance .

It is a wonderful sight to behold, the way you bring these classic toys back to life. Thanks for sharing the process.
The initial condition of the toy not only does huge credit to your skills, but to the manufacturer for making such a good quality item in the first place! I say 🥇🥇to both parties 🚜
It's ok to talk when you actually have something to say. I enjoyed the talk.
I still have mine. I got it for Christmas in 1969.
Scott Horton WoW 😮

Wow. Someone finally talks & shows their face on these Videos. Simply Amazing.
Excellent! You saved it for generations to come.

I am inspired for my new hobby for my recent retirement. Thanks.

This is absolutely my new favourite restoration of yours to date.

Well played with toys. Glad you are restoring them for future generations to see.
"Even more sanding..." Talk about Tonka Tuff! I just love it ! My Barbies loved those Tonka trucks back in the 70's. Racing downhill !

My son, born in 1970, would have loved that Tonka. I'm sure it was way out of my price range!
Impressive can't seem to get enough of your videos .
The sound effect at 9:44 was perfectly hilarious 😆
These old Tonka toys bring me back. Back before toys were idiot proofed. Turned out real nice. I had the front loader and dump truck.
Nice work. Enjoyed knowing about the history of the piece👍👍👍

If it had been in Toy Story, I would have loved to hear it talk after your restoration! "Hey, Woody look at my shiny tyres..."
Unbelievable! Another awesome restore

Fabulous work!

Ebay usually, some from Etsy and antique stores, and occasionally form Facebook marketplace.
