  • Here is everything that you need to know about the mysterious Colonel Samuel Flagg that showed up on the hit CBS TV sitcom, "M*A*S*H" from time to time. While some people referred to him as "the wind", I thought the guy was just plain funny!

      OH YEAH,, the captain Chandler episode... Captain Chandler was a bombardier who ended up at 4077 because he thought he was Jesus... First flag shows up, saying he wanted Chandler either, and I quote, "up in that b-29 with his finger on the red button",, or sent to Leavenworth... So Hawkeye and Potter decide to call Sidney Friedman, who comes and examines Chandler/ Jesus... I'll save the spoilers lol but, when Friedman comes to the conclusion that Chandler is no longer able to perform his duty, and should be sent home with a section 8 psychiatric discharge,, Flagg starts threatening Friedman in the presence of Hawkeye and BJ and Col Potter... At one point he actually laughs at Flagg,, which wasn't a violation of military protocol by that point since I think Friedman was a colonel by then... Friedman basically closes out his part of the conversation by saying, Flagg, I'd like to talk with you longer, but with your schizophrenia I'd have to charge you double....

    • @micnorton9487
      @micnorton9487 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@tomvanriper8084YEAH at first he was threatening Friedman, saying he belonged to left-wing organizations and threatening to have him exposed,, AND "kicked out of the army" at which point Hawkeye and BJ say, which organizations Sydney, I want to join so I can get kicked out and sent home... at which point Flagg gets his brilliant deduction, and says, I see what you're trying to do here, and it isn't going to work ,, we're going to keep you in the army right where Uncle Sam can keep an eye on you, RIGHT HERE shrink, where you can patriotically serve the country that's going to HOUND YOUR EVERY STEP... Flagg makes his grand exit, leaving Potter and BJ and Hawkeye and Sydney standing there bemused and the scene I believe ends with Hawkeye suggesting they get a drink which is the way pretty much every scene with Hawkeye ends...

    Every now and then, a TV show will create a character that is so ridiculously over the top that even a couple episodes is enough to remember that character forever, or the entire show actually begins to revolve around that character. Colonel Flagg (MASH), Harry Mudd (Star Trek), Steve Erkle (Family Matters), Cousin It (Adams Family), Harley Quinn (Batman). The list goes on from there. Colonel Flagg was one of those characters that was so outrageous that he took over the entire show when he was on the screen. The actor, Edward Dean Winter, was so good in that role, and so spectacularly cliched as the military spy guy, you had to admire the man's ability to play that part so straight faced without even the slightest crack of a smile. I have to wonder what he was like when he wasn't on camera. Great character, great actor.

  • @SteveFlanigan
    @SteveFlanigan 4 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    You did it again Dave, and thanks! Having the complete MASH series on DVD, I watch an episode a night. I loved the ending in the episode "The Abduction of Margaret Houlihan" where Flagg has everyone close their eyes before leaving Col. Potter's office because, like the wind, no one sees him come or go. With all eyes closed, Flagg jumps through the window in Col. Potter's office. You hear the "crash" of the window and then a moan. Hawkeye looks out the window and states, "The wind just broke his leg."
    On a side note, I also have the complete collection of Magnum P.I. and it's amazing how many guest stars from MASH have shown up on Magnum as well, including Edward Winter.

    My dad would do the squint and say "I only sit for 2 minutes a day,"

Hogan suggested he tell a Pat and Mike joke, adding “You’ll have to change it to the two Bavarians, Hans and Otto.” When Klink made the speech, he said “ That reminds me of the one about the two Bavarians, Pat and Mike.”
