Thank you for the tips Scotty, I had previously thought my AC compressor was broken for several years when I finally discovered that it was in fact one of the fans (the smaller one that blows against the condenser). I ended up purchasing both fans and the assembly online for a fraction of the price (of the dealer) and installed it myself. The AC works now and blows cold air. 2008 VW Jetta GLI, 208k mi.
so happy that i stumble upon your channel when i was looking for high RPM problem. your channel taught me a lot of stuffs that i can do on my own like checking my a/c filters, air filters and clean up the throttle. thousands thumbs up!
Tips to cool the car off quick. 1- open the windows and drive around a bit it will circulate all the hot out. 2- close the windows and turn your dial to AC let the car get nice and cold 3- once cold turn the dial too the air recirculation feature it will recirculate the air in the cabin so the AC compressor isn’t always running saving you on gas. 4 - turn the cold dial all the way to cold that way you can set the blower fan on low and still be nice and cold. This trick works nice with the air recirculation feature but won’t entirely freeze you out Those are my tips
Hey Scotty, another cool tip (haha), I got a long time ago. Run your A/C in the winter as well a couple times for like 30 min. This way the compressor seals don’t dry up and start leaking when it’s fired up in the summer. (Also applies to homes)
Wowow, thanks Scotty! As soon as you pulled out that air cabin filter, I paused and went out to my car to check mine. It was CLOGGED FULL of crap! Knocked it all out, vacuumed it and my AC is FRIGID now thanks to you! Three cheers for sharing common sense! The whole fam thanks you, our weekly 550km drives are gonna be SO much more pleasant now that the 38°c weather is OUTSIDE the car, not in it!

Such a cool dude. I would trust this guy a thousand percent. Probably got a cool family too. Cheers Scotty; cyber cheers - if you ever come to Auckland beer's on me.
I love listening to this guy 😂 I don't even live in the US so I'm not even sure whether some of these tips would work on European cars but I love listening to him anyway 😂
Just keep in mind that European cars mostly come with variable displacement compressors and TXVs, and they now come with another different kind of refrigerant known as R1234yf, and you're set. AC systems work the same way all around the world.
not gonna lie the part where he put his hand by the fan to check if it was blowing scared me. lol reminds me of the time we had a customer at work. reaching towards a running turbo to check if it was sucking.
Thanks for the 101 Scotty! On the '05 Mitsu Endeavor the filter was optional. It plugged with leaves just like you said it would (wet carpet and sloshing). Got filter and snap on door kit from dealer. Cut opening along pre scribed lines, slid in filter, snap on cover, done! Located same where you show in glove box. And that year was impossible to find condensation drain tube. No problems since.
Got a recommendation for those dual fans. My car was overheating all the time at a stoplight when you have a low idle the compressor seems to work overtime and heats up really fast and overheats the radiator and the engine overheats. I always noticed that there was only one fan going and the other one kept going on and off so what I did was disconnected the connectors to both fans hook them up together in series and connected them directly to the ignition 12 volts. That way they're running all the time at half speed. This kept the radiator much cooler. You can even disconnect them in the winter time but don't forget to reconnect them in warm weather. No more overheating problems.
I was looking for this! My AC runs Ice Cold Yet when I'm at a stoplight it starts blowing warm and as you said then my engine heat temperature rises. I appreciate the idea thank you!
Allanisbest not true...mythbusters busted that myth a while ago. AC uses a lot of power because the compressor takes up to 5 horse power to operate, making it less efficient to use than rolling the windows down
Michael Smith true. I've wasted 20 minutes watching this guys videos and he's a hack. He knows a little but he doesn't know it all and what little he does know, he bullshits and fools innocent people into believing every word he says. Have 16+ years experience as a vehicle tech and this guy wouldn't last a week in my garage.
He said fan belt multiple times when referring to a vehicle in which the fan is not powered by a belt. I get it, actually. Still not bad advice as a whole.
Great job Scotty. I really enjoy your videos here, i.e., your professional expertise as well as the good humor and practical tips while at it. MANY thanks sir!

This guy reminds me my mechanic. He only uses Toyota or Lexus. Old school and very well informed guy. I bought a 2013 Honda accord sport and he told me that it was a good car but not as good as a Camry. He also owns a 87 celica.
you are a legend mate, whenever need to learn something about cars i check your video. should make a video on how to spot a good mechanic. thats why many people do diy on their cars because is hard to find a good mechanic🙄. keep up the good work and thank you.
FYI: The irritating screech everyone thinks is the a loose belt is sometimes a pulley; many chrysler idler and other pulleys come with only very small dab of grease in the roller bearings inside causing premature bearing failure; (u can pop off the oil seal with a pin then work it around the edges without damaging the seal), then pack it with more lithium grease (or other clean grease in a pinch). If/when it does screech, later when engine is off, the hot grease inside will drip/ooze down onto the bearing axle, so the next time you start the car it won't screech anymore. Works for me. I was going thru a pulley every 3 months until I investigated their shoddy grease job inside the pulley ball bearing area.
Great Vid Scotty! You explained every thing I always wanted to know... (hence I NOW know where the AC inlet is; because every time I start my AC I get debris from the trees above me being blown into the car...) --- Btw, my fan on the radiator isn't spinning --- what should I do and check? Is it fuses or something else? .... My car is a Peugeot 106 - early 90's model (pretty basic car). Thanx - & I Love your Vids, Awesome.
I had that same issue (regarding the fans not coming on) with 2 different vehicles and both just happened to be a $12 sensor which is the coolant temperature sensor.
Andrey Ivanov - Peugeot 106 has a very basic foam filter that can be cleaned/washed and put back into service. If leaves are being blown into the cabin most probably it's not there at all. Very bad idea 'cause usually leads to a scraped blower motor. Plus the obvious discomfort of having leaves being blown in your face. ;-) Further more, clogged ventilation grill/ducts also lead in most cases to a burned resistance...When the lower speeds of the ventilation don't work. only full blast. All in all it's totally worth to spend the 15 minutes it takes to do some maintenance. ;-)
Dear Scotty you are doing a great job. A simple way of explaining things which most of us can understand and use the tips to keep the mechines from wearing out. Thanks alot.

Yes, that nagging problem of bugs getting stuck in and plugging up the condenser and radiator. The simplest solution is to put a piece of screen in front of the condenser. It's much easier to clean the bugs out of the screen. Also, I remove it in the winter months, takes only a few minutes.
One thing I did about a week ago was get some radiator cleaner. It's a spray can with foaming cleaner that will bubble up and get inside the fins of the radiator. I did this on my truck and I noticed a difference right away in how cold the AC was. I wouldn't use just any kind of cleaner, you don't know what will react with the aluminum, the stuff I use was found next to the home AC units, but it says you can use it on any kind of radiator. They don't say to spray it off after you use it, but I did anyway just to clean out all the crud and bugs. Simple $5 can is a cheap fix along with what Scotty recommends too. Stay cool!
Thanks for the informative and entertaining vid. I cleaned the interior air filter today and it looked like it hasn't been done years. Without your vid it would have stayed full of crap. Thanks Scotty!

Big thanks for this video! Not only did I replace the existing cabin filter which was in HORRENDOUS shape, but I found a home for one of the screws that had been rattling around inside my glove box when reinstalling the dash panel 😂
okay,i guess its time to switch back to normal one since the dealer give me the carbon one,and the ac is not that cold on my car. and what is the benefit of carbon filter anyway sir ? and how about ac compressor oil ? sorry,if i ask too much
The filter would only fuck with how hard the air blows has nothing to do with the temp. Oil and additives are bullshit unless your system is leaking. The AC compressor and other components wear out just like any other part of your car and need to be serviced or replaced.
As an HVAC guy I can confirm all of this is true. when we maintain a home AC system, we clean the condenser, normally with a garden hose, and if it is extremely bad we get out the caustic brown coil cleaner that can eat right through the metal, clean, and rinse it. we normally use a much less harsh cleaner in the evap coil, because it is indoors and the garden hose is not an option. check filters while indoors, then we then measure all things electrical to see if any parts are failing, capacitors, running and starting amps, etc. in a car it is mostly the belts.

Tips to cool the car off quick.
1- open the windows and drive around a bit it will circulate all the hot out.
2- close the windows and turn your dial to AC let the car get nice and cold
3- once cold turn the dial too the air recirculation feature it will recirculate the air in the cabin so the AC compressor isn’t always running saving you on gas.
4 - turn the cold dial all the way to cold that way you can set the blower fan on low and still be nice and cold. This trick works nice with the air recirculation feature but won’t entirely freeze you out
Those are my tips
Well that explains the automatic climate control gimmick as thats all it does, is lowers the fan speed after it reaches desired temps
@@StudiosDelirium wait really???
I always turned on the ac without rolling ny windows down and yet here i make a response to this

Stay cool!
If you want it to get even colder and faster, seal off the gap between the radiator and the condenser.

Don't EVER spray the water AT the condenser, you'll just blow bug guts into it. Try to blow them out the front by spraying water from the back.
Robert Wall their are just bugs and with the water pressure they desintegrate into pieces and will just wash down with the water flow dont be afraid.

Big up yourself Scotty! 👊
Your editing kills me 😂
