Places to travel in india are ladakh, manali, spiti valley, kashmir, north east india, dharamshala, rishikesh, sikkim, shimla, munnar (kerala), goa, ooty, andaman nicobar island, udaipur.
While Calcutta (now Kolkata) was the capital of India, but in summers it got very hot for Britishers so they used to spend the summer in Shimla and Darjeeling. So, they used to move everything with them all the way to Shimla.

I live in Shimla and every time I visit my village which is a 3-4 hour ride, I end up getting motion sickness .There are so many turns and If you ever were to come near my village the road is so bumpy that it is not possible to drive fast (above the speed of 30kmph) even if you want to. The narrow ,bumpy and curvy roads won't let you do that unless you have a death wish and want to experience going directly down the mountains once. Also in winters it's cold so that adds to the reasons I don't want to travel by car or bus. I would rather walk for 10 hours if possible.
