Honestly I am really enjoying Owl buff. One of my favorite builds, despite not being great, is Llama/Buffalo, and the combo of getting an Apple buff to the Buffalo and a Pear buff on a random unit for two is great.
It isn't though, it's a pear on a random animal which is much much worse

The worm was the stronger unit than the (not lvl 3) caterpillar therefore he should’ve given the melon armor to the worm which would’ve carried his squad against the damn bats

Never seen or heard of this game, so I don't know what is going on, but what I will say is that if you listen to this with no video, it sounds like an insane person pontificating on random animals killing each other.

I just got a super early dragon, pilled an eagle I got from a pet level up and oh baby my 50/50 ox and dog destroyed. Dragon and tier ones broken scaling turn 8 I've never had such a clean win

Well if the build went further the 5/5 would actually be 15/15 split across three units. Early to mid game that could be huge, he just didn’t have the lives for it

When I see a dog I am disheartened knowing NL will buy it
That first run should've gone to the moon. If he'd *temporarily* put the turtle in front of the worm (before the Caterpillar popped) he could've turned probably 2 losses into wins and had an extra 2 hp to play with, giving him plenty of time to get the 2nd Caterpillar to pop, and maybe to level up the Turtle so it hit both. Dog was a mistake on the 2nd run. Llama could've worked, or he could've tried rolling for Bison or Buffalo, either one works, although personally I prefer Bison. But straight up, in my mind Dog loses to Llama as a potential Caterpillar target on turn 7.

It drives me nuts that NL doesn’t see that the cricket is essentially a 2/3 early
And dog has got to be the worst scaling in the game
He does, which is unfortunate, cause it isn't. Cricket draws to a 2/2 enemy and loses to a 2/3, whereas a true 2/3 wins and draws respectively. The stats of the cricket are spread out over 2 units, which means it takes 2 enemy hits for it to do 2 damage, whereas a 2/3 does 2 damage every single turn.

I do wish the game had a bit more flexibility. The meta gets so strict. Mid-game shenanigans are really fun tho, that’s where most of my enjoyment with this game comes from

For me it's the opposite. I hate early game love late game.
Sometimes you can steamroll early and mid game and just earn the 10 wins before late game approaches. Won a run with a peacock , kangaroo , penguin , otter , monkey all of which are ok at late .
Eh I think late game can be good cause you can switch to random options. Imo really early game is the worst cause you play it so often it feels like there is less variety in what you can do

duck is actually so good, sacrifice your first round on buying three sucks, second round enjoy your minimum 4attack 5hp squad. You dont want to hold the ducks into round 3/4+ you just sel em immediately and enjoy a free 3wins in a row

NL has come around to turtle but i think he still highly under rates rooster.
4 level 3 50/50 roosters and a level 3 50/50 turtle at the front i think is the most powerful squad in the game hands down.
How often do you manage to make the full 4 maxed roosters and maxed turtle build?

I am not a believer in dog meta. Its worse than an apple, and that doesn't win without uber food synergy either. Yes dog can get some wins, but the 4-6 gold for 3 stats is not the play.
A big reason it works is that it lets you convert basically all your money into stats every turn. It obviously works better if you have a scampi or other buy/sell support, as well as hitting animals like otter, owl, beaver, etc with their own buy/sell bonuses.
And of course, like any strategy, sometimes it just doesn't work. But it's definitely a valid strategy, and given how early a dog can show up, latching onto it early can be a good option.

Got super lucky today and just had an amazing shop with enough fish to make 2 level 2 fish to make a level 3 fish by turn 4. Had 10 straight wins with not even a draw. Ended up at turn 10 with a level 3 50/50 melon armor ant that I just fed everything too, a level 2 melon armor kangaroo behind, and a level 2 swan I got early. Switched from monkey and penguin buffing to dragon/level one juice and squeeze gambit around turn 6 or 7 which was enabled nicely by the swan. Most pogged I've been with anything in many a long cold night. Made suffering through all the terrible shops and runs that had potential but couldn't take off quick enough (and maybe a 0 win or two) worth it.
